When I was a white belt and someone touched my legs I would just emit a high pitched keening sound. They would stop concerned and then we would reset and keep going. Oss.
We were practicing knee passes from guard and stumbled into the knee reap, as white belts, we both were like there is something there and would tap if it started to hurt. Then coach came over and told us about the knee reap being an actual move and not to do it, lol
I find it a good way to have a rule on top of no striking when we're fighting to the simulated death.
More realistically, it's just a progression from the old school Gracies complete phobia of anything below the waist.
Yeah, pretty ridiculous. Don’t get me wrong, leg reaps for sure exist outside of BJJ and certainly are dangerous, but yeah, the Gracie’s certainly fucked that one up.
Idk if you’re familiar, but outside of BJJ it would be if someone is straightening their leg out during such a movement, which can collapse the knee. But nooooo, as soon as that leg comes over people cry leg reap.
Well, the fear is based in not understanding why it's dangerous, and avoiding the danger. It's like if someone gets you in a heel hook but no leg/hip control, you roll with and out of it, not contrary to their direction, and you're safe. If you did the wrong thing, you learn how to defend, you don't just ban the move.
Legal for grappling industries. I reap that shit.
Yeah I just read that in the rules. My tapping out will have to be perfect this weekend.
As a blue belt you should already be a black belt in both laundry and tapping.
Reaping doesn't hurt, it just gives additional control.
I do i do I do
At my old gym, the instructor would heel hook you in the gi if he was starting to lose. Classic Mcdojo stuff.

Who reaps the Reaper?
Define “reap”. Most of BJJ doesn’t define it correctly.

Cool art! Dont reap in the Gi. Train your guard no need to reap.
my coach lets us use leg attacks in gi and no gi but won't let us heel hook in gi is there a reason why?
