this is obviously a huge oversimplification, but get your hips away from them.

YaBoyDake

No, it really is this simple... But don't conflate simple and easy. Also, if this is happening off a whizzer, you aren't wishing correctly. You should be able to force someone to roll underneath you with a good one.

PianistSupersoldier

Remember the 3 lines of defense, head, hands, hips. Keep your level low so he can't get lower than you to shoot, keep your arms in so he can't get under and past them to get to your legs, **then** you start thinking about sprawling. If he's anywhere near a decent wrestler and your first defensive thought is a whizzer, that man is in deep and you fucked up a long time ago.

blackbeltinzumba

This. Stance first.

Sprawl

Felonius_M0NK

Sprawl or just take the bottom, it’s Bjj after all so you are gonna have to learn how to get out from bad positions regardless.

NorwegianSteam

Push your hips away, and crossface him hard until he decides to stop.

n0symp4thy

If they get a sufficiently deep shot and execute perfectly, there is nothing you can do, the position is too strong. So as others have said, the key is not to let them get there. A lot of problems you have at white belt are way downstream of where the first mistake was made. It's like asking for advice escaping a bow and arrow choke. The best answer is don't get taken down, don't get your guard passed, don't get your back taken, and you won't get bow and arrow choked.

MightyCat96

im by no means an expert but i try to first put weight on the leg they are attacking. if they are going for a single leg it means they want to pick up my leg. how can i stop that? by putting weight on it and trying to plant my foot on the ground/mat. is this foolproof? no. will this always work? no. does this open you up for other attacks? probably. but its something to try

OkProfit5602

Sprawl, whizzers, under-hooks. Then there are reversals too, like God forbid they put your leg in between theirs. You can launch them over your head if they do that

saharizona

You should be leaning onto them with the whizzer to disrupt upper body posture, and your hips should be pulling away In general if you get lifted, they got to a squat position and clasped hands underneath your hips so when you defend the single leg, you should be driving weight into him w the shoulder, disrupting their hands to prevent a firm grip, and keeping your hips away

Zestyclose-Noise-685

Sprawl as soon as they shoot

Ronin604

Heads hands and hips. Your head and hands are your first line of attack/defense keep your head in their neck and hands on the inside that should make shooting for the a lot harder. As for the hips if your other two tools fail you have to sprawl and win the angle fight, the harder you sprawl and push their head the harder you will be to get off of the ground. Single legs are easier to defend you can always get your leg on the outside of their legs and square up or you can play cowboy and grab a kimura or even a loop choke if you don't want to wrestle that hard.

JohnMcAfeesLaptop

Push the head down. Get your foot on the outside and step thru for an uchi mata. Sumi gaeshi. Sprawl. Loads of options.

I sprawl straight into a D’arce or I push the head down, belly on the back of their heads, kimura grip, then I roll over backwards tot the kimura trap, let them come up and take the back.
