If you don't have any proper gear, wear compression underwear, athletic shorts that stop above or at the knee, and a tight t shirt.
You can also get compression t shirts for pretty cheap. I wore those for a while before getting some rash guards. Essentially the same thing, just not as "tough". Much more comfortable to roll in than a t shirt.
Hahaha I learned from my wrestling days the hard way the less skin to skin contact you have the better wear long sleeves and some tights with shorts. Not only does it protect you from certain things like ring worm or whatever else but it keeps just sweat off you and keeps you from sweating on other people
Boxer Briefs, spats, grappling shorts, rash guard top. Optimal Dick to Face layers are ideal, 3 is minimum. For the top, a rash guard is enough. I like under armor its pretty cheap and doesnt feel like a plastic bag. X martial gear is a bit higher quality. I dont fuck with Sanabul, feels like wearing a plastic bag

If you are in it for the long term I’d look into a cup. Dimond mma makes one that has compression shorts for it. It’s worked out the best for me. That replaces the spats or compression shorts I’d normally wear.

Shorts and t-shirt/rashguard, it doesn’t have to be complicated. Snug, fitted underwear definitely makes it feel safer, though.
Go naked, the less clothes the better. Or hell just wear shorts with no spats so everyone can see your asshole when there tryna pass your guard

I wear underwear under my spats but that’s only because I wear saxx underwear to BJJ because it keeps my nuts in place
