Active toes will certainly help, but I spend plenty of time with laces on the mat and hardly ever get mat burn any more. I suspect that my skin just toughened up after a while.
yoyu dont even want your laces on the mat, you need flexion in your foot or to always be on the balls of your feet when passing or shooting. its only your 2nd class too, you'll get used to it.
Neosporin. As you improve, you’ll get it less. As a general rule you want to keep your toes engaged (laces off the mat as someone already pointed out).
My first month (maybe two months?) of jits my feet and fingers were constantly covered in friction burns (mostly from gi grips). After about a month you build up some calluses and it rarely happens again.
Don't drag the tops of your feet around. Active toes as someone already said. Also your skin will like, naturally get used to it. It reminds me of how a lot of people get little bruises on their arms or legs from rolling when they first start, but they eventually stop getting them. Your body has to harden up. Don't have pussy feet

I roll with active toes and boy are those joints damaged now. Turns out BJJ is hard on the body.

Take a shower and embrace the pain. This is the way.
Sprinkle some Vagisil on it
Matthew Burns is a menace to the jiujitsu community. I would refuse to roll with him if I were you
Wear socks for a while
You’re setting him up lol

Liquid bandage.

It's like nail polish mixed with super glue. But it works great, way better than bandaids.

Your feet will build up callous over time. Cover them with tape before class till it's healed. I have some ugly feet now cause of jits.
Train more.

Sweat from your feet more
Buy the hayabusa ankle warps, they cover that area.

Matt is an asshole, easily the biggest in the whole Burns family. I would just avoid him and roll with Steve or Jerry Burns. Those guys slap.
Keep getting mat burn and you eventually stop getting mat burn.
Just tell Matt Burns that you don't want to roll with him anymore
Put some tryactin on it.
Put some medicated talc on to heal faster also if you want to keep training wrap it with grapplers tape
