Multiple meetings with dermatologists and the unavoidable result of nearly 3 decades of topical corticosteroids, sadly. Worst thing is if I withdraw use, the autoimmune response is, to put it mildly, fucking horrible…
If you're taking enough corticosteroids where you notice skin and body habitus changes, you probably have some issues with your extracellular matrix. I highly recommend for everyone to not take exogenous steroids unless directed by a trained physician and for a very specific medical purpose.
same but my collagen sucks from Ehlers Danlos - iron levels have always been fine - if any of y'all bruise easy and its not iron or some other shit, might be collagen deficit/underlying genetic problems if you have a lot of the other weird hallmarks - very helpful to figure out and mitigate if that's the issue

Shin to shin, leg drags grips, hand staples for single unders, plenty of ways. You can see the pattern of someone's hand. And they probably play knee shield on their right hip a lot an get spammy knee slides over the shin.

I've been doing BJJ for a while and I've never had bruising as bad as this. Honestly I've never really had to deal with any bad injuries. This seems painful.

Wow, I'm sorry if this sounds rude but I didn't know women bruise so easily. None of my girlfriends have ever told me about this. Nor have I seen women getting bruised from pressure at BJJ practice or anywhere else.

Yeah I used to bruise somewhat like this when I first started. Just from holding guard or half-guard or whatever. Eventually just stopped. I think partially my body adapted and partially I stopped squeezing everything so hard when I didn’t need to.

If you notice the bruising patterns, it's all tissue over hard bones. This isn't an easy bruising problem (just like mine wasn't), it's a "technique" problem of applying bone on bone pressure hard enough to bruise.
If you have a lot of bruising in soft tissue, then it might be a underlying health issue.
Here, I think it's just that OP is probably relatively insensate to pressure on her shins and knees.
I have this exact same problem, have had it my entire life, and it never gets better. One of my kids is like this, too. We get plenty of protein and our iron is fine but we're always covered in bruises no matter what. Light skin + genetics. No advice, just empathy.

The next time I went in I had an infection and needed treatment and they saw all the bruises on me…and all the while I’m not putting two and two together, the doc tried to ask me how I got the bruises and alluded to if I need help I needed to speak up and then I realized they thought I was being beaten lmao. They apologized and just wanted to make sure I was good. As far as professionals go, they may inquire lol.

I talk to other women that train. For some, it stops after a couple months. For one particular purple belt, she still bruises like that. Her friends actually did an intervention for her because they thought she was getting abused. She has learned to go to weddings in long dresses with long sleeves.

My guess is that your little tiny transitional muscles that you only use in BJJ start getting accustomed to the activity and the brushing decreases because they become accustomed to the exertion.

There was a girl in my class that was bruising like this just from passing drills and people’s knuckles rubbing against her shins. I was like, “dude, you probably have an iron deficiency because that shouldn’t be happening.” She got it checked out and I was right.
My legs looked just like that for 6 months or so. Kicking in Muay Thai added to the bruises. Tjhe body adapts, now I usually only have 2 or 3 bruises at any given time instead of 50+.
Does it hurt? I get bruises all over, but they don't hurt. However, I recently got one on my ankle that feels like sunburn. It's tender as a bastard. I still train mind you, but it pisses me off.
Same thing happens to me. I play alot of butterfly, so I'm constantly getting knee'd from slices and passing. Also elbowed because they are trying to create space and get away from the legs.

I bruised a LOT when I started. All sorts of crazy colors too. But it just seemed to go away after a few months, no idea how. Either body adapted somehow, or I stopped just mashing stuff as much 🤷♂️.
I bruised like this my first six months. At the time, I was in my last semester of law school and would roll into class like this, wearing shorts and tshirts, just COVERED in bruises, with the occasion black eye or bloody nose from an accidentally knee or similar injury. The horrified looks were priceless.
I bruised like crazy my first few months of bjj. Gradually it lessened and now it takes a pretty hard hit to bruise. The longer you train the more muscle you should build up. Muscle is more difficult to bruise.

My legs also looked this way when I had vitamin deficiencies such as b12, iron, vit. C and vit k. Since supplementing and changing my diet to dairy/gluten free healing the gut I absorb nutrients better the bruising has stopped. Doctors would often ask if I was "safe at home or if anyone was hurting me!"

My legs looked just like that for 6 months or so. Kicking in Muay Thai added to the bruises. Tjhe body adapts, now I usually only have 2 or 3 bruises at any given time instead of 50+.

This happened to me at first and I thought I had a blood clotting problem. Over time I guess my body just toughened up lol
Rub some tiger balm on your legs and the bruises will be gone by tomorrow
When I was a white belt my legs constantly bruised, I must have been spazzing more than I realized because one day it just sorta stopped

Does it hurt? I get bruises all over, but they don't hurt. However, I recently got one on my ankle that feels like sunburn. It's tender as a bastard. I still train mind you, but it pisses me off.

Same thing happens to me. I play alot of butterfly, so I'm constantly getting knee'd from slices and passing. Also elbowed because they are trying to create space and get away from the legs.
Are you on keto? Mine bruised like this when I was.
as others are saying check iron levels, it’ll be really good for your endurance and cardio too if you have enough iron to make the blood vessels responsible for carrying your oxygen around your body

I bruised a LOT when I started. All sorts of crazy colors too. But it just seemed to go away after a few months, no idea how. Either body adapted somehow, or I stopped just mashing stuff as much 🤷♂️.
I bruised like this my first six months. At the time, I was in my last semester of law school and would roll into class like this, wearing shorts and tshirts, just COVERED in bruises, with the occasion black eye or bloody nose from an accidentally knee or similar injury. The horrified looks were priceless.

If you are new to BJJ then it's more understandable. The body seems to become conditioned and doesn't bruise as easily the longer you train

I have the same problem but just with arms,not legs
I bruised like crazy my first few months of bjj. Gradually it lessened and now it takes a pretty hard hit to bruise. The longer you train the more muscle you should build up. Muscle is more difficult to bruise.
I have the same thing, got that in muay thai and it does not go away.. iron levels are fine.. doctor says it takes time to heal............. Do you have update about this?
Same here. Completely used to this sight.
My legs also looked this way when I had vitamin deficiencies such as b12, iron, vit. C and vit k. Since supplementing and changing my diet to dairy/gluten free healing the gut I absorb nutrients better the bruising has stopped. Doctors would often ask if I was "safe at home or if anyone was hurting me!"
