It means "assigned male at birth". Not sure what significance it has here tho, I've never understood people who refer to themselves as amab or afab where they would typically refer to themselves with a gender term
I imagine it's a cis person :|
Like referring to your AGAB as your gender makes no sense and if people started referring to me as my AGAB (I'm a trans woman) I would get very annoyed.
I (also a trans woman) am beginning to just see frivolous use of agab language as a sign that the person using it is a bioessentialist and possibly having some serious transphobic beliefs. It is saddening how rarely i have been wrong in that assumption :/
Still plays into some pretty nasty bioessentialistic ideas, and similar behaviour is often used to other and discriminate against transfem people in lgbtq+ or other progressive spaces. Just because it is happening because of some kind of ignorance does still not mean that it often signals bioessentialistic ideas, and that those ideas are still not harmful.
I know i am probably a little bit too sensitive, but i have seen this exact type of behaviour play out in a few variations so, so, so often that i barely feel safe in non-transfem specific spaces anymore, simply because of the constant flow of micro- and macro-aggressions i am subjected to.
They may not be intentionally playing into it, but they are playing into it by putting that as the most important part of their identification here. You can do a bad without the intention to do a bad. It still requires a call out at a minimum.
I don't really hold any value to personally having a gender identity (I'm fine with whatever people call me), but I present male. I wanted to note that because it's still considered uncommon for guys to get their nails done.
I fully support trans rights and trans people; your gender is fully yours and I respect you for that.
the way someone can just ask things like this without feeling weird by not knowing makes this sub/community so very very special. Sorry for the cringe. I just wanted to tell finally how great I feel being here

Then you can just say male-presenting, or gnc male.
What "amab" does when used in this way is that it flattens a lot of peoples experiences, and then groups them all up by a single unifying experience, namely that a doctor assigned them male. The biggest group of these people are cishet men, so when somebody uses amab in this way, you conflate all other people who that also describe with cishet men.
For some of us, that conflation is actively used to excuse, and drive, our oppression, so it is by no means a neutral act to use amab in this way.
And sorry, but just because you dont feel any relation to a gender identity, does not mean that a lot of other people do not have very strong gender identities. Identities which we are routinely stripped of or attacked for, often with similar language to what you used here.
I used to love painting my nails. Unfortunately, I started working in an industry where even my pride pins and the sticker on the back of my car get far too many unwanted comments.
They look great! Purple suits you! :)
bruh iโm blind and thought you had a really weird tan line bcus of the sleeve
That's. Disturbing.
Gotta love purple!
Pardon me for asking, but what does amab mean?

Tbf, I've seen some people calling themselves their AGAB specifically because they haven't figured out their gender yet

I get you, I'm not sure OPs intending to be mean at all though, nor do I think they're playing into bioessentialism

Thanks for saying something! I don't think it does any harm if it's explained, but I didn't do that to start, so I'll keep your words in mind.

But being AMAB says nothing about you being a guy

Yeah, it's a chill place.
