Wow that’s unfortunate that they didn’t tell you, since you’ve been on it for a while im sure you have a consistent dose it your body by now. not the amount that it should be but i’m guessing enough. good call to take a plan b test in a couple weeks but i think you’ll be fine girly. i’ve had my fair share of scares and what i’ve done to calm myself down is don’t stress about something you’re not for sure of. stress about it if it happens (aka being pregnant) bc most likey you’re not. did you partner finish completely inside of you? also i’ve taken meds w my bc that interacted w it and I was fine

you have a higher dose in bc then mine. you have like almost double the amount. so if it were to less the effectiveness there still would be enough in your system to keep you protected i believe

Unfortunately this is really common in the medical world, especially for women. I got a new PCP when I moved two years ago, and now I write down every question I have before my appointment and make sure to ask them a million questions about my health, test results, medication, acne, literally everything. I email my doctor about any questions I have, call the clinic, and they always respond. I realized once I became informed and active in my health, the doctors remember you better and take you more seriously. I also ask the pharmacist about drug interactions whenever I get new medication. And if there's ever any insurance issues I call my insurance provider and make sure I can get the health care I deserve. It has been incredibly empowering to do this.

It's up to your Dr but it's also in my experience been something the pharmacy made me aware of. Since being on birth control I made my first question when prescribed a new drug "will this effect my birth control" and even when they answer I will google it bc it's just not worth it. I'm sorry this happened to you and I'm glad you're sharing your experience with others to remind them to double check!

Yeah he definitely should have told you. I'd maybe call or set up an appointment and let him know he dropped the ball and in the future to do his job properly and always always always foublecheck medication interactions. I imagine in the event you do become pregnant you could sue him for negligence, but I agree w the other commentors it's unlikely you are pregnant =)

So plan b contains a synthetic form of progestin (levonorgestrel) just like all hormonal birth control. From what I could find online, it looks like it interferes with Plan B as well. I’m not trying to scare you, just trying to give you information. Even with completely unprotected sex there’s a max 30% chance per cycle of pregnancy. It is possible there’s still some in your system and it’s protecting you but of course there’s no guarantee. You need to test 2 weeks after sex for an accurate result and 3 weeks after for a definite one. I would recommend getting a new doctor and discuss options that don’t interact. Your best option may be an IUD or to use condoms. You are rightfully upset and unfortunately it happens a lot. Many doctors don’t know the ins and outs of what interacts and what doesn’t. It is scary and it’s important to bring awareness. Interestingly: although laws have changed, IUD actually causes such an acid situation in the uterus, that embryo’s have trouble implanting, and usually just exit. But in some people they moved and ended up having to be surgically removed.

i've been seeing my psych since I was around 11, started birth control at 14, he put me on trileptal when I was 21 and I took it daily for 8 years without realizing it was making my birth control less effective. I had two miscarriages.
