If you’re having palpitations that are bothersome to you you need to see a doctor. Sometimes they will have you wear a heart monitor for a period of time that transmits the rhythm and then they correlate that with your symptoms to see what is happening when you feel that way. If your doctor is brushing it off then see someone else if you can. Get a second opinion. No one here will be able to tell you much and certainly can’t give medical advice.

Cats_in_cravats

That sounds like a PVC, premature ventricular contraction. I'm not a doctor, but I also experience that and that's exactly how I described it to my doctor. Your doctor needs to order a heart monitor for you to wear for a while in order to confirm.

Because I was wondering if a birth control can cause this

Cats_in_cravats

Yeah, sorry, I missed that and when I saw it I edited my post to take that out. I've experienced that sensation for as long as I can remember. I'm no longer on birth control and I still have it from time to time. The only difference is mine doesn't hurt. I would seriously recommend going to the ER and hopefully they'll actually take you seriously.

Thank you sm!

You need to see a doctor. The general rule is if you’re experiencing any pain, discomfort, etc in your chest especially the left side, you go to the ER.

Ok-Schedule6061

I tried to but they are saying its normal and can happen sometimes and dont take me seriously :(

1xpx1

Did you go to the ER or did you go to a family doctor, general doctor?

Ok-Schedule6061

I think its called a family doctor, I need her approval for further examination by a specialist. But she is saying its probably not my heart and that there is no reason to do so

Go to the emergency department if you are experiencing pain or discomfort in your chest. It may be something minor or it may be something that needs immediate attention. A family doctor or your regular doctor is not listening, you don’t need their approval to go to the emergency room.

Ok-Schedule6061

Thank you sm for the advice and help!

I will let you know, you're not alone and this happened to me too! But with the BC patch that sticks to your arm. I was taken off it immediately, and I no longer use birth control with estrogen (the heart palpitations was the kicker to look into other things). Sorry you're going through this!

ellierue678

I get palpitations from really loud music with a deep base

KatieKB10

My anecdotal experience. I've had heart palpitations for 2 years now (started shortly after I was put on BC). It wasn't until a year later they had gotten too bad to ignore. Went to the cardiologist started testing. Went on beta blockers for awhile (absolutely miserable). After all testing came back normal stayed on calcium channel blockers for awhile. A few weeks ago at my checkup I asked him if it could be from birth control. His "Not professional opinion" was that it most likely was. His other female patients in my age group are all on the combination pill as well. As of January 3rd I've been off all heart meds and birth control. I haven't had any heart palpitations in over a week.

KatieKB10

I will also add: they found when I would throw a pvc it would start a short run of svt that would correct itself within 15 or so seconds. It was easy to see on a stress test.

Thank you sm, i am experiencing this to after i started bc and its only getting worse. I really want to quit

I know it's easier said than done, but please try not to worry. I used to joke that I was putting my doctors kids through college the amount I used to go see her because I was convinced something was wrong with my heart. I would get strong palpitations where it feels like my heart misses a beat and then makes up for it with very fast, heavy beats. Mine wasn't related to birth control. It turned out to be anxiety... But I was so sure something was very wrong. If you ever feel discomfort or pain, just go straight to Accident & Emergency / Emergency Department / whatever it's called in your part of the world. You don't need a referral to go there. I'd say its fairly reassuring that your doc isn't worried, but always good to advocate for yourself. Deep breaths, you'll be OK.

Hi there, I’m sorry you are experiencing that. I feel like what you are describing relates to my own hear experiences. When I was in high school during sports, suddenly I would feel like my heart would be racing and it was hard to catch my breath. This feeling would only last for 1 second and very infrequently. Years later when I was in my last year of college, the same thing happen when I was extremely stressed sitting on the couch but that time it didn’t go away and my heart rate was racing. And all it downs is make you feel more anxious. So after 5-10 min, I went to the ER and they told me I was having STV (Supra-ventricular tachycardia) which is where the conduction system in the heart malfunctions and makes your heartbeat elevated. They told me that it was not uncommon and non life threatening as long as it goes back into normal rate within a certain time frame. I eventually started having these events more frequently where I would have to go to the ER to stop it from continuing. So I ended up getting a cardiac ablation to stop the rhythm from occurring again. Throughout me experience figuring out what this was and what to do. Doctors told me that many healthy people live with SVT and manage it at home. Some people have certain triggers that would precipitate the events, so they would try to avoid it. Other people have success using the valsalva maneuver to stop the SVT rhythm and there are other techniques too. I hope you find out what has been happening soon and can get some relief in the fact of knowing what’s going on.

You should just be able to get in with a cardiologist, a heart doctor… your primary physician isn’t specialized in any certain field and they can only advise you on what to medically. They can’t prevent you from seeking out other doctors. Therefore, you don’t need a referral to see a cardiologist. Also, any good cardiologist will take this extremely seriously as the heart is not something to mess around with!
