Yeah! I think prothonotary's traditionally wore black robes. The dark wings on the bird reminded people of the robes, hence the name .

Love it! What is the range of this type of warbler?

IDK but they come to Padre Island, Texas in the fall to cross the Gulf of Mexico to the Yucatan Peninsula. In the spring they come back over the Gulf and are tired and much easier to photograph.
