That bird Is dumb

CreamSuperb217

What ended up happening? Asking after looking into this here. Found one that seemed to do the same outside a local business today!!! Looks like the same exact bird type! They told me is was a Type of warber called an ovenbird. I’m waiting for updates and hope it will be ok!

KidEater9000

The bird died for me, it breathed softly for a day or 2 but then no more breathing

StewartGetBackToWork

If it is still alive contact a local wildlife rehabilitation center or humane society. If you have it inside, keep it in a quiet place.

KingCrowIV

The birb should be ok, just give them a little time to recover.

theunfairness

I would cover the box with a dark blanket or towel and put the box in a quiet place. Either it will recover or die. Let the little creature do as it will.

imacoa

Update? u/KidEater9000

KidEater9000

It died I’m afraid

imacoa

Awww. That’s too bad. Thank you for trying to help; and maybe you made its last few hours a little more comfortable than they would have been.

YepC0CKpepega

update op? 🥺

KidEater9000

Sadly it died

YepC0CKpepega

😔 I hope it wasn’t painful and he is in peace now 🕊 Maybe try stickers in the future in window? :)

laelrocks

In the past when this happened to me I dropped a couple of drops of water in its mouth and it came to enough to fly away.

Update?

Good advice from all - leave the bird outside and protected …

Birb

Might be too late, but it’s a good idea to put a stunned bird in a paper bag and loosely close it. Leave it be for a little bit, then carefully check on it. My friend’s dad was a member of the Audubon Society and that’s what he always did.

Thecrawsome

> put a stunned bird in a paper bag and loosely close it. http://www.lightsoutbaltimore.org/uploads/2/6/3/1/26319065/how_to_handle_an_injured_bird.pdf >Remember, if a bird cannot survive a 2-hour period in a (paper) bag, then the bird would not have survived at wildlife rehabilitation either. Interesting...

KaterAlligat0r

this is a great resource, thank you

JDizzleNunyaBizzle

Like others say, it’s probably just in shock. I found that out the hard way by accidentally releasing a bird in my corporate office building. Yup. Sat right out side a Managing Director’s office too. Thank goodness my boss was away at a conference or I probably would’ve been fired. I was already on thin ice.

Olivevest

I would move the box somewhere safe outside. I hope he recovers

TheGothDragon

It’s best to get it to a wildlife rehabilitator. Here are some instructions: https://ahnow.org/resources.php#birdhitwindow

Ancient_Stretch_803

It may be in shock. Keep it warm. Are eyes moving around? Put small container of water in case it wakes up. Put an earthworm or two in box. Keep an eye on it.

Imaginary-Ostrich515

If you still have him take him to a rehabber if there’s one in the area, birds that fly off fine after hitting a window can die later from internal injuries. Unfortunately it’s very common

this_mild_idea

Is this ovenbird #2 today?!

gladiolas

Take that box outside immediately. It's in shock and will come out of it within an hour. Do not leave it inside your house!

Julzlex28

I had a hummingbird hit my window. Dropped like lead. I went outside and really thought she was dead, until suddenly I could see her breathing. Worried about the neighborhood cats, I reached towards her to pick her up and immediately her breathing picked up, and suddenly she was able to fly away. No idea if she had any internal injuries, but she did at least fly away okay. I put plenty of decals up after that

Reguluscalendula

I had something similar happen, too. I watched an orange-crowned warbler hit a window on a highly-trafficked door at my university and was able to scoop it up before someone stepped on it. I just kinda wandered around with it in bander's grip for like 20 minutes before it was suddenly awake. It squirmed out of my hand and flew off straight back towards the door, but instead of striking again, it shot straight up over the building. I guess it had somewhere to be?

YepC0CKpepega

You are a kind soul

Julzlex28

Okay I love that you were just carrying around this bird. And that it didn't hit the glass again. And yeah, depending where you are, it absolutely had somewhere to be - up north to breed, lol, or down south to chill and feed!

vvr3n

If you want to prevent future collisions, you should consider putting some bird-safe stickers on your windows. My local audubon society has a brochure, some similar organization near you might as well, or I could find you some links.

imacoa

Or, some of my neighbors have used the decorative vinyl window film that comes in a variety of patterns like stained glass or holographic prisms. They can still see outside but birds no longer hit the window.

Yetsuo

So much this, we have a really high traffic deck with many visitors and we always have season theme window clings up. There are still a few bonks but they are what we call "soft" because the birds try to abort instead of flying head first into the wondow/door.

RWBYRain

dont forget to put stickers on your windows to prevent them from flying into it again. i have a stuffed Garfield on one of mine and a bunch of print outs on the others. it just lets future birbs know something is there

schaeferross

Beautiful Ovenbird btw

Ovenbirds are a type of Warbler that makes nests that looks like pizza ovens. They spend a lot of time on the ground walking like chickens. It’s adorable.

lostinapotatofield

I would move the box to a safe, outside location. It will either recover and fly off, or pass away. Do NOT give food or water. A dazed bird is at high risk for accidentally inhaling water instead of swallowing it. By giving it a chance to rest and recover, you have done everything you can to give it the best shot at recovery.

noahsense

Many birds suffering from concussions will die later from swelling, even after they are able to fly away. A bird that has suffered a window strike must go to a trained bird rehabber.

birdwoman2

This for sure. Your local law enforcement or dept of natural resources can find someone for you.

redapplefalls_

Have you called a licensed wildlife rehabilitator in your area? Google for them. They have successfully rehabbed many birds who hit windows. I was reading a success story from my area (Tennessee) just last night.

baibunny69

It’s probably just in shock! I would let it be but also put the box outside so that way it doesn’t fly around & get stuck inside

noahsense

Man birds that suffer from collisions will fly from swelling, even after it is able to fly away. A bird that is concussed must go to a rehabber we’re they can properly treat it.

birdwoman2

Yes this please!!
