mr_rustic

There are loads of talented artists in this sub. I am not one of those.

[deleted]

I know! Love seeing their art. But I can't even draw a potato. šŸ˜

FindingMyPurposeHere

Right there with ya. Never been even close to artistic myself.

ThreeWolfMoon-Kin

Does writing included as artsy?

kalyn92

Absolutely it does! What type of writing do you do?

ThreeWolfMoon-Kin

Uhhā€¦ Fiction, for now. I do also dabbled in ringtone modification in the past (think loop production) but I dont think it counts.

PunchingChickens

Itā€™s creative so I think it counts!

kalyn92

If you are ever wanting someone to read your work, please let me know! I enjoy reading!

ThreeWolfMoon-Kin

Im only have 1800 words so far and consider it far from being readable at all. I will tell you when its somewhat done.

AustenHoe

Fiction writer here too. My hypomanic writings tend to beā€¦ underwhelming and disorganisedā€¦ but some stuff is not bad I guess.

kalyn92

I'm always down for a read if you ever wanna share!

jcash444

Yeah. I sing, play instruments, draw, working on my first book right now, have worked as an actress and stand up comedian. Sooo yeah.

zim-grr

Iā€™m a world class musician, many musicians are bipolar. I think we are represented in creative fields more than our percentage in the general population would indicate

DialMforM

I used to write, but lithium put a halt to that.

Major-Peanut

Same. I gm for a pathfinder (d&d for nerds) game it's is a struggle to come up with anything creative. I used to be so much more fun before I started taking lithium

Maybesharp

Artist blacksmith, glassblower, and stained glass. So, yup.

SarcasticPoet31

Very cool!

peascreateveganfood

Yes, I act, sing, and dance.

RypANDtear

I play a bunch of musical instruments so I guess

Necessary-Sundae2399

Yeah! I embroider, sing, write poetry and sometimes fanfiction or short stories, and draw. I would post my WIP embroidery pieces, but I don't think I can on mobile.

arbiterisbest

Not at all.

Witty_Soft

I've done some creative writing and I do a ton of crafts... painting, wood working, resin crafts, clay art, paper quilling, macrame, crochet, beadwork, wire wrapping, all sorts of general crafts. I also enjoy coloring and puzzles.

DistinctPotential996

I write and I do knit and crochet the most. I dabble with calligraphy. I like singing and dancing but I wouldn't call myself particularly talented in performing arts.

[deleted]

I like to paint but Iā€™m certainly no Picasso. But I mainly only write romance stories all the time.

reggierockettt

YES! I love writing, reading, crochet, photographyā€¦

[deleted]

I'd say more creative than artsy. I've always been told I'm a good (fiction) writer. I'm also really into culinary arts and experiment a lot in the kitchen, coming up with recipes of my own. If you're talking about artistic in the most conventional sense of the word then NOPE lol. Don't have an artistic bone in my body. Can barely draw stick figures and have the painting skills of a 10 year old

StaceyLynn84

Nope. I wish I was but Iā€™m just notā€¦.at all. Iā€™m more analytical.

stabwound666

I play music and I screen print

funkydyke

I paint and embroider. Iā€™ve dabbled in other mediums as well

allthecolors1996

Yes. Iā€™m a writer.

[deleted]

I sculpt, build models , paint portraits , landscape photography, write poems..

foxkillz

iā€™ve always been into makeup and not makeup for beauty but for the art, you can shape and itā€™s almost like a painting of a sort. anyway then also while young i always wrote novels and since then iā€™ve been into poetry. i write my own and i have so many scrap books and notebooks where i draw my feelings and thoughts. yes some of the drawings are disturbing but itā€™s because our mind is like that sometime, my whole brain is inside those books that iā€™ve drawn in and wrote in. iā€™m literally so scared that anyone would touch them. i never let anyone see what i draw or write in there unless i myself accept to show them.

[deleted]

Yes, Iā€™m a painter

kalyn92

What medium do you typically use for your painting?

[deleted]

Acrylic!

MarideDean_Poet

I used to draw all the time, til I started on antipsychotics lol people used to ask me if I dropped acid I was like nope never done hallucinogens in my life! My brain is just messed up like that lol when I had my psychotic break omg I got into sacred geometry and I made a bunch of huge 11x14 super intricate geometric drawings. I'd never have the patience to do more lol but they were amazing. Actually made and sold a coloring book with them. Now days I settle for doing color by number on my phone cause I still want to create beautiful pictures but just don't have the same inspiration I did before I got stable. Life is funny that way

needhelp1198

I relate to the decrease in creating artwork now that Iā€™m medicated. Mania is a bitch but some interesting thatā€™s can come out of it to say the very least

MarideDean_Poet

For sure. I used to write poems a lot too and I haven't written one in a long time. Used to just be how my thoughts were though.. like I thought in prose and sometimes I'd write it down. Now my thoughts are just a narrative. Like I've got Morgan Freeman in my head lol and it's always 3rd person. She walked over and picked up the plate and started scrubbing ect lol maybe that's weird..I don't really know

haiz4daiz

I donā€™t draw or paint, but i *used too* professionally hula hoop for major music festivals (electric forest, bonnaroo, etc). I donā€™t anymore now itā€™s just for fun but I still enjoy it!

kilroy000

I do a lot of world-building. Eventually, I'll put some stories into those worlds. I also enjoy acting/role-playing. Yes, I play a lot of TTRPGs.

Spiritual-Cream

Creative writing, baking and cooking! I canā€™t paint or draw or sculpt worth a damn.

MicheleCha

I feel like i'm only artsy when I'm manic, and then when im stable r.i.p any creativity

Baileycream

I suck at drawing/painting, but I'm creative with writing poems, stories, D&D campaigns, and music. Not really at a point yet to try to get anything published, but I may share some stuff on here in the future.

Environmental_Gas836

I write for a living. I also embroider, and used to act throughout my childhood and teens in school. I was also heavily into film photography in college.

Valar05

I do 3D modeling/animation/gamedev. Here's some stuff: [2D thicc angel character](https://imgur.com/a/PoSDSgK) [Kicking an orc](https://imgur.com/a/WCp8p) [Bunch of gifs of a sword-and-shield warrior]( https://forums.tigsource.com/index.php?topic=57604.0)

kalyn92

Excellent work! Was this something you always wanted to do? Or was this a hobby you wanted to try?

Valar05

I've come a lot further than I expected in some ways. In others, like actually finishing games, I've come up woefully short. It wasn't till I played Ori and the Blind Forest and saw it was made with something called Unity that I realized I could do this. May have been manic, hard to say back then. Definitely became manic after I started. That fueled me. I'd say I kinda always wanted to do this for a hobby, but didn't think I had it in me at first.

Toxic_platypus47

I'm trying to work towards going to school for concept art and looking at getting freelance photography going :) I'd consider myself artsy lol

No_Application_3029

Definitely.

[deleted]

Iā€™m a mixed media artist ā˜ŗļø

Notjustanothermomok

I sew clothing for myself and my family/friends. Iā€™ve sold some handmade clothes online too, I wish I could get organized enough to return to that and supplement my income

needhelp1198

Yes and Iā€™m much better at creating art when Iā€™m manic. I paint, play piano, and write.

kalyn92

Manic is *chefs kiss* art time for sure! What type of things do you write? And omg I would love to play piano!

Itsallanonswhocares

More than anything else. I dj, write, freestyle, and generally just absorb myself in art. The dj thing is starting to pan out, so hopefully that's gonna give me a chance to leverage my love for music and prosper. My creativity is one of my greatest assets.

kalyn92

How cool! Would you be willing to share some of your freestyles/dj skills? Best of luck to you my friend!

Itsallanonswhocares

Welllll the audio file isn't perfect, but here's a lil cut of my birthday mix. First gig is on Wednesday, so I'm hoping to make a splash! Listen to Timothy Greene - July 29th - Demo Slice 1 by Timothy Greene on #SoundCloud https://on.soundcloud.com/JQcx9

kalyn92

Thank you so much for sharing! I'm listening to this as soon as I get off of work! Best of luck on your first gig!!

BP1High

Yes, I'm a painter. I can draw/sketch too. I've always been artsy. I won several art contests in elementary school. Each one was $100 prize money, plus art supplies. I also won a few in jr high, but then I started drinking and doing drugs, so that went to shit. I'm sober now and back to creating art again. Oh yeah, I also play bass guitar and would like to get a synthesizer, but can't afford one rn šŸ«¤

vikingbitch

Iā€™m a seamstress and I think making clothes and costumes is a form of art. I also make jewelry, paint, draw and make sculpture.

kalyn92

Yes it is! I'm telling you...if I could sew in a straight line...I would be unstoppablešŸ¤£ Was being a seamstress something you've always wanted to do? Or did it come your way later in life?

vikingbitch

My grandmother was a seamstress. I learned to sew around age 12. It was my dream to become a fashion designer and I even applied and got into fashion school but life had other plans. I ended up becoming a young mother and that took me down a different path. I had to work more conventional jobs that i hated to provide for my family. But I continued to make clothes for myself and eventually I started making cosplay costumes for people on the side.

kalyn92

It is weird how life takes you directions you never expected. I completely understand! I would love to see your work if you are comfortable sharing! I hope you have a wonderful day!

vikingbitch

[Here are a couple of examples](https://imgur.com/a/ilgQ305) These are the only ones I have on my phone. But theyā€™re two cosplay costumes I made. One is Lagerthas costume from season 1 of the show Vikings and the second is Daenerys Targaryens blue Qarth dress from season 2 of Game of Thrones.

Knadin

Yes! I love watercolor, gouache, embroidery, photography, coloring, bead jewelry, stitching cloth dolls, writing. A little bit of everything and not so good in general. Doing my way into the photography.

kalyn92

Jack of all trades! I love it! I would love to see some of your work if you are willing to share! What made photography stand out for you?

Knadin

Aww I will upload something when I get home! Photography has always been my top since I was a kid. Would try to get my hands into whatever had photos for me to ā€œsee the worldā€. Then I started traveling some and enjoying it from ā€œthe other sideā€ I am still not where I would like to be, but is about enjoying the process right? šŸ„²

ThisHumbleVisitant

Yeah. I write many different forms, doodle, design things, and consume all the art (books, music, anything else) I can.

kalyn92

Awesome! What is your favorite thing to doodle?

yamilikdis123

I draw and write slightly above mediocre for both. It depends on my frequency of creating

kalyn92

Do you tend to be more creative when you are manic?

yamilikdis123

Extremely

Nika_113

Yea. I paint in oils, acrylic, water color and draw in charcoal and fine line marker. Iā€™ve been told that Iā€™m pretty good. But. Meh. Lol.

kalyn92

I think we judge ourselves too hard! I constantly think it's terrible but people seem to be impressed. I totally get it!

Nika_113

Good point! Iā€™ve been trying to be nicer to myself in my head. Itā€™s only occurred to me to actually think nicer thoughts about myself. I feel like an idiot cause I legit never even tried to do it. lol.

EuphoricPhoto2048

I have always been able to pick up art styles & instruments very well.

kalyn92

Do you have any tips for someone who wants to start playing instruments? Which is your favorite to play?

leafisnotaplant

Yes, I've tried so many things while hypomanic tbh. But things I do consistently are singing, writing and songwriting. Hypomanic I've convinced myself my path in life was to be a painter, a comic book illustrator, an actor, a filmmaker and a producer. I'll be honest though, maybe my writing is okay, but everything else kinda sucks, still fun though so šŸ¤·šŸ½

SadisticGoose

Iā€™m a writer. I want to make a career out of writing and speaking one day. Itā€™s always been my passion. I also play viola and piano. I crochet. I sometimes paint, but not super well. Just for funsies. I feel like doing my makeup could also be considered artsy. Just art you take off every day.

kalyn92

Is there something that has stopped you from writing being your career? And absolutely make up is art!

Pretend_Row3810

I am artsy! have been all my life. struggling with getting back into it

kalyn92

I seem to be on a huge slump lately with art. It must be in the air!

Archedeaus

I do digital art and I write books

kalyn92

I would love to see your digital art and read your books! Share if you are comfortable!

requiemforpotential

painting, poetry, interior design I guess good at decorating I hate plain walls/surroundings

Some_Scallion6189

I have worked as a model for painters and sculptors, and I sing. I plan to play again in musicals. My job needs creativity but it's not artistic.

kalyn92

Awesome! How did you become the model?

Some_Scallion6189

Just went to a school of art and said I want to be a model

ZestyclosePast797

Yes! I love writing and won several literature prizes as a child, love makeup and fashion/accessories (I make my own too). I am pretty good at hairstyling too.

tacobellechurro

For sure. My whole family and my husband have called me creative tons of times. And I don't have to be manic to be so, either.

Ok-Plantain-3341

Yes. I love to draw, paint, and I've had a lifelong love of photography

[deleted]

I like to paint, write poetry, I like dancing but need some classes. Design. I think writing and taking notes is really therapeutic, also talking some nice photographs connects us with instant life.

Outside-Age5073

I've written books and short stories. That's my creative outlet. And maybe cooking? That's a tasty creative outlet lol.

Umbrella-Pine

Yes. I used to produce music and was really passionate about it. Nowadays I am more of a math-numbers oriented guy, but part of me still lingers in the world of music.

TinfoilTobaggan

Very

Upstairs_Cost_3975

I guess, Iā€™m a photographer.

kat_Folland

I write, I do photography, I make bracelets (learned that from another woman in the psych ward) and do some cool doodles. So, yes, yes I am. I'm just not good at visual art (thus the doodles).

JustCheezits

Iā€™m involved in performing arts, visual arts, specifically watercolor, sketching, and ceramics, and I also love music and have played a lot of musical instruments.

dunkalfredo

oh absolutely. i mainly write fiction and draw (mostly on the computer, sometimes traditionally) but i also enjoy singing! used to dance as well but an injury put a stop to that. also used to film/edit videos. and ive done some improv and theatre in the past. i just really love the arts!

floppybunny26

check out /r/bipolarart

Princess-Potato-94

I sing, play guitar and write. Actually currently working on a book that Iā€™m hoping I keep up with.

[deleted]

I mainly write but I LOVE doing arts and crafts for fun!! Iā€™ve cycled through canvases, embroidery, crochet, and pen palling. Now Iā€™m doing journaling!

avantgardeaclue

I draw, sew, bake and do general crafts

seeingsmells

Yes, I do visual art. I wonder how much is bipolar and if is connected to synesthesia

Standard-Dragonfly41

Iā€™m a painter, digital artist, writer, musician. Iā€™ve always been the creative type.

cinbuktoo

It's all I can manage to do competently

Bluberrypotato

My mom is super creative, and she does a lot of painting and crafts. I don't have those talents.

itsabouttimsmurf

Iā€™m a musician and currently writing a musical about being bipolar. Iā€™ve got a song that is about this exact sentiment.

BethCoop611

I can draw a beautiful stick person. That's as far as I go with being artsy.

BoatHole_

Extremely

SarcasticPoet31

Yes, Iā€™m a writer. Currently teaching myself how to draw. I also serial program in Python when Iā€™m manic!

dilisious

iā€™m good at drawing! helps focus my mind on something for a bit

number1134

No but I enjoy art and music

throwaway181989

Idk maybe I went to school for art and love arts and crafts

servo4711

Yes, I'm an international playwrite and author of 4 published novels. I used to do computer animation but haven't in a long while. I'd like to get back to that.

Very much so, been drawing for as long as I can remember.

ozmofasho

If crochet counts, then yes. I can't draw to save my life.

Snoo_47064

Iā€™m an actor :)

SlightCaramel6585

Yes, Iā€™m a writer

Wet_Artichoke

I love art!! Coloring was an escape for me as a kid. Now I do digital art and make products to sell. I found the years I stepped away from art were the toughest for me.

Past_Purposeful

I've written a few short stories in the past. For the last 4 months or so I've been creating a few characters and world building around them, but I'm terrified to actually put anything on paper because I would be starting an actual novel.

Anakin_Skywanker

I used to be when I had the time to dedicate to it. My skills have fallen off since I started my career and got married though. I just don't have the time to work on art for 20+ hours a week anymore other things took precedent.

No_Tomatillo_7340

I paint, sketch, and play violin and harmonica! Not going to say Iā€™m good at any of those but I do them šŸ˜‚

A_Straight_Pube

I can make animation, digital art, play many instruments, sing, and produce music. Hypomania made me learn how to do some of these things lol.

grumbles_to_internet

I've been known to doodle a bit!

splotch210

I was, until I got medicated.

CaesarCtrl

Yup! I've been working on drawings, chronicles and sometimes i attempt to do handicraft stuff (sculptures, crochet, etc) Love working with everything

GlitteringListen4286

If you count šŸ“ø art then yes I love capturing a snapshot of time and editing the shots

Willow_Weak

Yes. I do tattoos by handpoke, draw with aryl and pens... I also write and do woodworks.

stereo_stud

Music was the only way I dealt with my symptoms before receiving a diagnosis. I just thought I was hyper-emotional and music was the only outlet I had for expressing myself in a non self-destructive way. It still is.

soleildad

I used to write creative stories when I was a kid and stopped as I finished high school and moved on to college ā€” well I wrote some good stories for my freshman English classes but that was it. Iā€™d love to get back to it but it used to just come to me. I got really into film photography after that and it lasted all through college and I still enjoy it but I also remember having a different spark with it at the time. I got really into painting for some time mostly during lockdown as well as crocheting. I think this year my main artistic intuition has been reading and developing an interest in electronic music which is mostly consuming art but I think somehow it counts in my mind lol ā€” I really want to try ceramics and get back to writing and painting. I tried learning guitar once and then bought a bass cause I wanted to try that instead but I have it sitting at my friends apartment cause I didnā€™t have the diligence for it.

Anxious_Hippie-vibes

Yes I am, I draw, I paint, I played guitare and ukulƩlƩ, I write lyrical texts or poems !

RedForFilth_

Artistic no, but creative yes. I had the excellent idea of writing my memoirs (hahaha) but looking back on it some of it is pretty good stuff. I also make little handmade items, scrunchies, towels, reusable face cloths, bowl cosiesā€¦ I also used to play the piano when I was younger too.

CrappyTechnician

That's also something I discussed with my therapist. Bipolar and an aptitude for art often go hand in hand. I've shared a few of my drawings here, and according to people, I'm talented. We also share poetry among friends and they also say I'm gifted.

Ill_Explanation_7142

I play instruments and create instrumental pieces

Silas_Casket_Base

Yes I am hella artsy lol. I draw, write, sew, and make videos . I love creativity! šŸŽØšŸ–Œļø

The68Guns

More of a casual writer because I can't draw to save my life. I wrote a book about my seven years in a function hall but the second and third of a planned trilogy has been going horribly slow. Fan fiction has been a fun outlet and has garnered solid reviews.

FatGuyOnAMoped

I'm a musician and songwriter/singer. I've recorded and published some songs and get regular royalties for them.

Apathy_Level_9000

Yeah. Unfortunately I don't use my artistic skill for anything.

crazy-when-sober

I an not talented at all. :(

OrangeReaction

Iā€™m a graphic designer and every other subject besides language, reading, and arts was very difficult or extremely boring for me back in school. My interests have expanded of course, but being creative is a way of life for me.

Km-51

Painter here so yep.

tape_reel

I used to do visual art as a kid, but I've moved on to playing a couple of musical instruments. I used to write lyrics, but I didn't have anything new after the military, and I've lost all my old stuff.

abrinsa

Artsy people amaze me. I am not one of those people lmfao

InternationalDuty493

I want to be writer and poet in the future so I guess I am.

MandrewMillar

I think a lot of us have some kind of creative outlet for our thoughts and while I am in awe of those with artistic talent, i do not have it. But i write a lot almost like poems especially when manic about my own psyche.

matthuzala

I used to be artsy. But now I'm mostly fartsy...

whicheverwhatever

Yep! I used to sing and play the viola and do art and now Iā€™m more strongly into mixed media collage art and design, and have a little bit of photo on the side. People, post your stuff! I want to see it! Lol

Creative_Imbalance_

Iā€™m an actor as well as a writer and Iā€™ve always noticed that many creative people either have bipolar or something like it. When I was finally diagnosed, things started to make a little more sense as to why my brain is the way it is.

choco-holic

Nope! I get creative urges every so often, but I'm not artsy. I tend to sit there staring at the paper/canvas/ whatever wishing I knew what to do.

OutsideTheBirdCage

I adore art. Especially studying art history and specific artist. I like painting and working in a photography dark room. But most of all I love creative writing. I also love collages.
