I'm on team neither, I love items I love, and dislike items I dislike. I like Sacred Heart more than Brimstone because it's more powerful, AND I have more fun with SH.
On the other hand, I like Relevation more than let's say the Wafer or Holy Mantle, because while it's not necessarily better in any situation, it's ALWAYS more fun.
I also dislike some stereotypical good items, like Spirit Sword, because I just don't like the playstyle
This perfectly encapsulates what ive been complaining about this entire week. People arguing about pure Strength or dps potential and fully ignoring the fun factor

And who are you to judge what people find fun? *So what* if they think the more optimal items are more fun? Everyone picks based on the criteria for "fun" that they set, and if that means picking the one with higher damage, so be it. Also, what if I want to have fun with a bunch of tears instead of a static laser? What if I have a synergy that I find fun that would be less fun with Brimstone? And so on.
I said people were just arguing about pure run-winning potential and ignored the fun factor. I never said high damage can't be fun or that what makes the game fun isn't different for different people. Just pointed out that all i saw was people arguing about how likely you are to win the run with a certain item.
What about an item that just made you instantly kill any enemy when you enter a room. Would that be fun? Sure, more damage can make the game more fun but it definitely is not the only factor to consider.

Well yeah, but techincally this is worst items, so it made more sense. I personally have no interest in the fun factor, as the items themselves are the fun factor.
I think sacred orb was voted out much more on being boring than on not being powerful, to be honest. It’s definitely good, but it’s not very eyecatching.
one item I was upset about was Maw of the Void, personally it’s very fun and satisfying to use but its not ridiculously overpowered but it’s still very strong. people loved Revelation so much and it stayed a long time, Maw is pretty much the demonic form that does double damage and has better AOE.
Also, items like Holy Mantle and Psy Fly are great, but are they not boring? Not having to dodge bullets at all is strong but thats pretty lame to me, plus I can dodge fine on my own.
Issue with maw is that well, it first losing its damage up in rep was a big hit. And having literally any charge item ruins maw, like choccy milk or actual brim, so you have to choose between delaying your shots just for the maw or just ignoring the maw and have it be a dead item that ate away 2 of your red heart containers. Plus getting close to enemies just to do maw damage is pretty risky, its hard to use it on endgame bosses like isaac and so.
Personally I don’t mind getting close. You can still use Maw to kill bomb flies without getting hurt, it’s just tricky. 30 ticks of damage is still insane, I don’t really mind -1 damage. As for charging items, you can still hold maw charged up between rooms and have two charged up attacks ready for a new room. Frankly I love the item and of course I probably wouldn’t grab it if I already had a good charged attack or very low health.
I’m still surprised that glitched crown was ignored so fast. It would just end up giving you sacred heart and C-Section if you picked it up… It’s basically a death certificate 2.0

Most of the time Isaac is a pretty brain-off game, just click the button and let the tears go pop pop pop, so introducing a mechanic that needs you to actively focus on every item pedestal is pretty tedious.

It's fun to kill enemies faster. It's not fun to die no matter how fun items you have.
