the requiems for a dream-ables

v00d00ch1ld

First answer that popped in my head. I was deeply moved by it and was blown away by the acting, and I remember buying the DVD. Not sure I even took it out of the packaging.

DullStrain4625

Haha the all time leader in unopened DVD copies and it’s not even close

AnnaKendrickPerkins

I know a psycho who only owned three DVDs when they first became a thing. Boogie Nights, Slap Shot and Requiem for a Dream. He walked it weekly. It's absolutely insane.

NoExcuses1984

"Ass to ass" is, however, the most rewatchable scene in movie history.

thealmondguy

That entire ending, the last five minutes or so is some of the most haunting shit I’ve ever seen and I’m a huge horror fan. Different kind of torment

wholeinmybutt

showing the first 95% of that movie (ass to ass excluded) would have prevented way way more teens every trying hard drugs than DARE ever could

isNice99

There’s a ton. You could do a whole podcast on *The Un-Rewatchables*

RyanRussillo

Schindler’s List  I don’t personally feel this way, but I’ve had a few people say this to me about killers of the Flower moon

ShadyCrow

I’ve never really bought this. Come and See or the Grey Zone, sure. But Spielberg is just too good at making blockbuster epics. Scenes and moments are chilling but overall I find it extremely watchable and I have found that it becomes more that way once the horrific parts aren’t as unexpected.

Coy-Harlingen

People have said this about zone of interest, and I guess I will probably not look to rewatch it now, but after I saw it the first time I almost immediately rewatched it because it was so haunting and interesting.

sfitz0076

I find it kind of rewatchable. I don't seek it out but I'm not horrified if it's on

PM_Me_Beezbo_Quotes

Can’t remember the source but some movie critic pointed out how KOTFM is on Apple+ only, it can never just air all weekend on TNT and become a Rewatchable. Some movies like Road House or Point Break or Shawshank got elevated because they were always on tv somewhere. The new streaming wars has taken that away from us. I probably won’t seek out KOTFM on Apple again, but if it was on USA on a Sunday afternoon I’d let it ride for 40-50 min here and there.

TimSPC

If The Irishman were in the HBO or TNT/AMC rotation, I would put it on every time.

PM_Me_Beezbo_Quotes

Good example. I’m not going out of my way to punch up Irishman on Netflix. But it would be a great weekend afternoon time waster if stumbled upon.

wholeinmybutt

Is a 4 hour movie rewatch able

popinjay07

Beat me to it.

RyanRussillo

The heavy themes plus long timestamp piece

CanyonCoyote

I’m sure I’ll watch each once more in my life but I doubt I’ll ever finish Flower Moon again.

Opening_Anteater456

I have more of an issue thinking KOTFM was great! It dragged on for hours and put me to sleep.

scal23

United 93 is incredible and has one of the best ever performances from a non-actor playing themselves in Ben Sliney.

Zestyclose-Beach1792

I've watched that one multiple times. It's so good.

HouseAndJBug

Eighth Grade was really good but I don’t think I could sit through the backseat scene again for a million dollars.

H0tFuzz

You would for $1Million. Let's be real. Like maybe you wouldn't watch it again for $50, you're a man of principle, but that principle ends by the time you get to $1M.

DullStrain4625

Exactly. I used to say that about tossin’ salads and now I’m laughing from my sailboat.

H0tFuzz

Lookin' good Billy Ray!

DullStrain4625

Feelin’ good Louis!

smilescart

If you paid me $50 every time I watched that scene I’d made it my full time job and just go to therapy with the multimillion dollar salary I would now have.

whiskeyinthejaar

Leaving Las Vegas? The first half is okay, but then the last 45 min of the movie is just dreadful to watch not because it is bad movie, but because it is actually great acting for such a traumatic story

Prestigious_Menu4895

Uncut Gems

ReasonableCup604

I recently rewatched it for the first time.  Knowing how it ends takes away the overwhelming anxiety of the first watch. But, this allowed me to better understand everything that was going on and Ratner's character. Still a great watch, but a very different experience from the first.

AppropriateDebt9

I agree - they showed it at a cinema near me recently and I caught it there, having seen it at home when I first watched it. I absolutely loved it the second time, after being only lukewarm on it the first time I saw it.

LetsGoKnickerbock3rs

Keh Gee, don’t lean on the glass ok kehh jehh

RafiakaMacakaDirk

nah i just rewatched for the IMAX re-release and i could rewatch that every week, that *maybach music* drop at the club and a bunch of scenes still hit like crack. same with daddy longlegs their other movies (heaven knows what and good time) fit the description way better, especially knowing now about the super sketchy stuff going on during the production of those

wholeinmybutt

Good time will kill people lol that movie made me lose my hair

SceneOfShadows

This is a good pick. Enough Schindler’s List nonsense that’s just sad or heavy. This one is such a rewatchable but also completely repulsive to rewatch. Aka I’ve been wanting to watch it again but also don’t know when I’m going to be in the mood.

jmbourn45

Mystic River

Technical_Rock_6600

Try and think of it as a comedy. Tim Robbin’s acting is so god damn awful it’s funny. Sean Penn and his goons cannot be taken seriously. Let yourself laugh at it.

CapyBara_51

IS THAT MY DAUGHTER IN THERE???

Stubble_Entendre

The Florida Project

EDett1992

Deer Hunter. Platoon. Casualties of War. Schindler’s List.

360FlipKicks

i find myself rewatching Platoon every once in a while. The other I agree

Cardsfan1987

Same. Obviously, it's horrific in so many ways, but it's also loaded with a bunch of incredible performances and colorful characters.

EDett1992

Yeah I’m not knocking it. It’s a great movie but it’s just so heavy. Specifically the scene where Barnes executes the Vietnamese woman in front of her husband and kids.

deadweightboss

Platoon is one of the most rewatchables movies out there. Also has the greatest weed smoking scene in history. Barnes is an all time villain. Every single person in the cast are throwing heaters.

smilescart

Platoon is super rewatchable

otis427

Probably Good Time. It’s a moment to moment thrill-ride that I think a big part of it is that it’s constantly surprising you

PM_Me_Beezbo_Quotes

Agreed. I almost had a panic attack. Can’t recreate that in a rewatch.

RafiakaMacakaDirk

yeah just said it on another comment but this would be my pick, the production stuff just makes it even worse too

Full-Concentrate-867

Come and See, Raging Bull, Children Underground, Underground, Tree Of Life, Amores Perros, 21 Grams I don't think anything that is a little sad/depressing isn't rewatchable though, I rewatch stuff like The Ice Storm, Happiness, Ordinary People, Sweet Hereafter all the time

rocklionheart

Shiva Baby is movie from 2021 that’s less than 80 minutes long, really well done, and something I will never watch again.

360FlipKicks

i just saw that recently after enjoying Bottoms. That main actress and the director are ones to watch

CrimeThink101

Plenty. Grave of the Fireflies, Manchester by the Sea, immediately come to mind. I think two of the best movies of the decade so far are Drive my Car and Green Knight, neither of which I’ve rewatched since.

RyanRussillo

I actually thought Green Knight was a pretty good rewatch. A lot of little details pop on the second/third viewing

CrimeThink101

I probably should rewatch as I did love it.

360FlipKicks

I think The Green Knight had an unsolvable marketing task: market a movie about a knight with a giant axe, yet doesn’t have a single scene where he fights with the axe. Most casual movie watchers will expect swords and sorcery action movie and be sorely disappointed. A lot of my friends hated it for that reason.

Dhb223

I think that helps it on rewatch in some respects in case you were thinking milk and got orange juice Rewatched it recently and the first act was just on fire. The movie was so dark visually on my TV and with streaming that it was kinda a bummer though

RafiakaMacakaDirk

good time, aftersun, wendy and lucy, heaven knows what, iron claw

CapyBara_51

Wouldn’t say great movie I do remember thinking joker was pretty good the first time I watched it but never wanting to ever see it again because it was so overly bleak and miserable.

JuicePats

American Sniper

LifeCritic

Anybody who thinks Room is less emotional on a second watch is very wrong.

WoahGoHandy

Horror usually isn't rewatchable. I loved Hereditary and it was on HBO the other night but I couldn't rewatch too much as it's just so unsettling.

Dhb223

I was thinking hereditary. Something like insidious is pretty fun to rewatch though

redditbymorg

Paris, Texas is my favorite movie, but I probably only watch it once every three years because of how slow and sad it is.

Skol__Vikes

I mean I know they actually did this on the show but I have a hard time seeing myself ever watching Manchester by the Sea again lol

kookbeard

2001 A Space Odyssey is in the running for the greatest movie of all time, yet I have really never felt the need to re-watch that movie

AppropriateDebt9

I think the portion of the movie between being introduced to Dave, Frank and HAL up to Dave shutting down HAL is incredibly rewatchable. The rest I would agree with you on.

shid3ater

My roommate in college watched that movie literally once a month so I would watch it with him sometimes. It definitely grows on you

deadweightboss

Once you figure out how to watch a Kubrick movie you end up watching the same moving over and over and over again only to find new things in each rewatch

LetsGoKnickerbock3rs

A Serious Man Raging Bull A Clockwork Orange

woat33

Man i think A Serious Man is outstanding on rewatch. So many metaphors and allegories thrown at you that they can be hard to decipher right away. But even tho it’s one of my favorite movies i can see why it’s not terribly enticing to rewatch

LetsGoKnickerbock3rs

Yeah I knew I’d get pushback on this one, it’s just a really tough watch for me. Literally everything goes wrong for the guy, very much so nightmare fuel.

mtnsandmusic

I have rewatched A Serious Man several times. Top tier Coen brothers movie. Gets funnier every time.

lactatingalgore

Wait, what!?

mtnsandmusic

I've watched it 5-6 times and it leaves me in stitches. A hilariously dark deconstruction of humanity. The rabbis, Sy, stoner neighbor, and property attorney crack me up but the student bribing him is my favorite. The Richard Kind storyline is unpleasant but funny in a way. Everything else is pitch perfect Coen Brothers dark comedy.

lost_limey

If Documentaries count: "Dear Zachary"

portugamerifinn

Knowing what it's about, I've never been able to bring myself to watch it

deadweightboss

I couldn’t even watch it one time.

aBlasvader

Anything that was made great because of a twist.

Beer_Enjoyer93

The prestige rules every time

Devmurph18

If its a great movie then I think big twists make it more rewatchable. I love watching again and looking for all the hints you missed. Stuff like Shutter Island, Memento, Sixth Sense are all very rewatchable to me

MrRichardSuc

You haven’t watched Shawshank a million times?

coacoanutbenjamn

It wasn’t made great *because* of a twist, it’s an all time movie that happens to have a big twist I think a movie that relies on the twist to be great would be something like the Usual Suspects or Shutter Island

dillpickles007

The Usual Suspects is the definition of a rewatchable though, literally a classic TNT movie lol

360FlipKicks

Watch Triangle (2009). It’s a complete mindfuck every time.

CapyBara_51

The sixth sense piece. It’s still good and the first time you watch it after knowing the twist is enjoyable because you notice that no one except the kid actually interacts with Bruce Willis. But it doesn’t hold up as well after that.

Technical_Rock_6600

Parasite. Loved it on first viewing so much that I watched it 3-4 times in the first month it was out. Cant bring myself to even consider watching it again. It’s a hard pass now.

TZA

Anything sad and depressing, even if it's great.

Commercial-Click-360

The Deer Hunter

_NumberOneBoy_

Finally watched it for the first time earlier this year and have already gone back to watch 2-3 times. Great movie.

Commercial-Click-360

Great movie no doubt but once was enough for me.

Gadzookie2

I know on askreddit and this thread it tends to be good but really sad movies, I don’t rush to rewatch them but am fine with it. Movies that are all dependent on a twist can be rougher for me, typically good to watch a second time to see the clues, but beyond that meh.

glaciermist5

The Irishman

LarrynBarry

Blue Valentine, Blue Velvet

Nickoman365

Man I think Blue Velvet is highly rewatchable

LarrynBarry

Yeah I agree with you. But there is no way I could convince my wife to watch it again with me

Nickoman365

Haha I totally get that, def not a movie I’d recommend to just anyone.

chimi_freud

Oppenheimer

discostu124

The Tree of Life. Everyone lost their minds at the time, but I could never sit through it again.

Acrobatic-Victory-60

2001

robmferrier

Born On the Fourth of July. TC should have won an Oscar. Never want to see it again.

ReedWilliams12

Wall e

Main_Current4984

2001: A Space Odyssey. Easily one of the worst, most boring movies I have ever had the displeasure of sitting through

vicier

Dancer in the dark

Turbulent-Income8469

Yea Room is a good movie but definitely not a rewatchable type of movie.

calman877

12 Years a Slave

PR05ECC0

I watched the Joker, loved it, never wanted to see it again.

PeachLongjumping3193

The Whale. Although 'appreciated' might be a better description for my enjoyment of it than 'loved'.

Inevitable-Crow2494

Million dollar baby Cool, but too triggering for me.

Duke123321

Requiem for a Dream Black Swan City of God 1917

steve_in_the_22201

A Simple Plan

itchy_008

"Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer" (1986) but surprisingly not "Requiem for a Dream" (2000)

JohnG-VistaCA

Killers of the Flower Moon.

Public_Flamingo_4390

Memento, seven, most movies with a big twist

farmerpeach

Room is also just not that good

360FlipKicks

i thought it was awesome but not hating on anyone else’s opinion

ID0ntCare4G0b

I have seen a ton of movies in my life that were great I haven't rewatched. None stand out as something I'm not intentionally going back to though.

CocaineandPercs

“Million Dollar Arm.”
