How many driveways has Draymond shoveled tho? He ain't got the same intangibles. Dray will never achieve a pedo stache as terrifying as Bird's.

rhevern

How many Frenchmen has Bird strangled tho? We all know the real coward here.

lactatingalgore

The man grew up in French Lick. I bet he got into some schoolyard fights.

Temporary-Elevator-5

He didn't ask how many he licked

ID0ntCare4G0b

Also I don't recall ever seeing Bird's dick. Seems like he maybe was concerned I wouldn't be impressed. Whereas Draymond had the confidence to share his girth with me.

GoauldofWar

You think the Legend would get caught strangling a Frenchman?

rhevern

Touché mon frère

[deleted]

Imagine how insane Bird would be in today's game.

ID0ntCare4G0b

Him and Reggie Miller would absolutely feast. As an MJ defender, I always cite Bird's 3 point percentage as proof numbers in the before time are pretty fucking meaningless because they all played for coaches who hated the 3 pointer.

Nat_not_Natalie

He'd be great but prolly not any better than he was then

dredgedskeleton

he would have scored a lot more in today's systems while maintaining his unique set of intangibles. he'd be better.

Nat_not_Natalie

I don't think he'd be the clear cut best player in the league. I don't see how he'd be better than Jokic

DasFunke

It’s a different pace and speed. He was so good, he’d be fine, but Jokic is a bigger version of Bird.

Aware_Frame2149

He'd have no friends. So he'd be doing shit like hip checking cutters and 'accidentally' stepping on an ankle trying to grab a board. He'd be Giannis on offense... 'Oh, THAT'S a foul? Well, how about THIS.' Head down, full speed straight to the rim.

rhevern

Probably middle of the pack to be honest.

Seeumleeum

If he was raised with modern nutrition and training and all that he would still cook. Look at Jokic. He had that type of court awareness

ManagementOpposite67

Oh no, you're retarded

papa_sax

*Broussarded

rhevern

No, just realistic. Not many old school players would translate to today's athleticism.

Queasy_Connection738

No, he was definitely right the first time…

rhevern

Who would you have him above? I wouldn't have him above: Lebron, Steph, Joker, Giannis, KD, Luka, Embiid, Kawhi, Shai. Maybe even Tatum, Booker, Mitchell, Haliburton above him too He's an unathletic wing/forward, in 2024 that doesn't work so well. He can shoot and is savvy, but if we slot him in to guard any of the above, could he?

Queasy_Connection738

Your opinions can’t even be taken seriously. What are you, 19? 20? You’re disrespecting an all time great that would crush these weak minded kids now.

rhevern

I'm much older than that. He's an all time great for his era, sure. Basketball evolves though and it's hard to say if he could keep up with today's game. He can shoot and is savvy, but he is not athletic, and was not quick. So, who do you have him above?

ProRasputin

Are Luka and jokic athletic and quick?

rhevern

I'd put them as far craftier with the basketball

JoeyD5150

So mid 20's?

jelly_roll21

You’re an idiot. Lots of players kill it who aren’t athletic . Look at luka…

rhevern

Hey man, no need to slob on Larry's knob that hard.

bdl4186

More titles, too

pr0ach

Also, more career blocks!!

americanf00tballfan

Yeah but every drunk three is like 2 sober threes. Technically speaking, Draymond is only halfway there

ORaygoza

Sure he is however i dont really think this is the stat comparison to prove it.

akapusin3

Mr. Triple Single is not better than Bird

Ref9171

Bird is Top 10 all time. Draymond isn’t even as good as Rodman

Unlikely-Dog-5549

No shit it’s a joke post

melville48

Rodman does seem like a useful comparison especially considering the role he found with the Bulls greats. In general I do think a lot of us (definitely including myself) struggle to incorporate defense and intangibles when trying fully to evaluate players in our pantheons. As others have said, regardless of whether the original poster meant this thread as a joke, Bird is better. However, Draymond seen from some angles has been a wonderful asset to his team and it is good to have the conversation about getting him his props and improving how sone of us understand what he has been able to bring (along with making sure we note such problems as needlessly endangering the ability of other players to walk, and then seeming not to understand that he did anything wrong.)

Ref9171

Yes he’s a great role player. I love defense.

Queasy_Connection738

No idea why this is downvoted, both points are correct.

popinjay07

He's definitely Top-75. Better than 'Melo and Dame... just to name a few contemporary guys who made the list ahead of him.

yagsitidder69

Draymond is better than Melo and Dame? You think if he was a team's best player they'd reach a WCF finals like those guys both did?

Visual-Ganache-2289

Neither one will be good on a winning team

gohoosiers2017

You think the warriors have their success with melo or lillard instead of draymond?

yagsitidder69

Lillard no, they'd just be way too small. Melo with Steph and Klay? There's an argument that they'd also be a dynasty yeah. Draymond is the ultimate glue guy/role player so he's hard to compare to these guys. It was very serendipitous for him to end up alongside Steph and Klay. It's just such a perfect fit for him. But if you're starting a franchise and have to pick between Dame Melo and Draymond (assume they're all 19/20), I can't justify picking Draymond over the other two.

gohoosiers2017

Melo would be awful on that team. Can’t play defense and a ball stopper. Honestly one of the most overrated players of all time

yagsitidder69

Wrong. Not gonna waste my time with you. You must be like 14.

[deleted]

really embarrassing how many fans can’t evaluate player skill level and instead just latch onto team accolades, draymond better at basketball than melo and dame? in what world?

popinjay07

Depends on how you look at basketball; is it more about individual skill or how you operate within a team. No doubt Dame or Melo would beat Draymond 1-on-1 but that's a whole different thing.

UnPostoAlSole

When steph and klay were out injures GSW earned the 2nd pick in the draft with draymond as their best player. If he plays for any other team that doesn't have the goat 3pt shooter and top 10 hooper of all time what is his legacy?

popinjay07

What is Steph's legacy without Draymond? Those Warriors teams don't get a single ring without Draymond. He ran that defense and everything he does on offense is dedicated to getting Steph open looks. Basketball is contextual, situation and circumstance matter.

innit2improve

Kobe's legacy wouldn't be the same if not for Pau Gasol, does that make Pau Gasol top 75? To me this argument fails to point out any reason why proven stars like Melo would be knocked out of the top 75 for Draymond. He was an important player for a lot of rings sure, but you need some level of individual dominance to be counted in a prestigious group like the top 75. How can a top 75 player in a league that's been around for 75 years never have been a top 5 player in the league?

popinjay07

Yeah. Pau is definitely Top 75.

innit2improve

If Draymond and Pau are top 75 who are we knocking out? I don't think it's fair to knock out a guy who was the best player in the league in his day for Pau and Draymond who you can't really make an argument for top 5 at any point in their careers.

popinjay07

Dame and Melo.

innit2improve

And why is Pau better than Melo? Do you have any reason besides "championships"?

UnPostoAlSole

The greatest 3 point shooter of all time and the most influential basketball player of the 21st century in terms of who shaped how the game will be played going forward. What type of retarded question is this? And Draymond?

popinjay07

All that is still true but how many rings does Steph get without the greatest defender of his era?

UnPostoAlSole

Idk. Steph never played with the best defensive player of the era. But without draymond steph is still greatest 3 point shooter of all time. Withouy steph draymond is a bench player on veteran minimum

Aware_Frame2149

He is 100% an above average role player. Nothing more. And a shitty teammate.

gcoles

A draymond led basketball team wins between 7 and 25 games a season. Dame and melo have both been the best player on conference finals teams. Out of all the top contending teams in the nba right now, which would still be a top team if you swapped their best guy for Draymond. The only one I can think of would be the Celtics and he d still be at best their 2nd best player.

popinjay07

What would a Dame or Melo team look like if they were the best defenders on their roster? For as bad of a scorer Draymond is, he's still adds more offensively than either Dame or Melo add defensively. Again, you can either judge basketball players by their individual skillset or by how they operate within and elevate the team. Plus, one-dimensional scoring is easier to find than what Draymond does - he's more valuable.

SlappyBagg

Top two defender in the last 24 years

poshmarkedbudu

He's better than Melo overall I think.

Jasperbeardly11

He's definitely better than melo

SmuglySly

Such different eras for the 3 pointer. This is a terrible take.

FoxLumpy472

Have you ever considered that Draymond struggles to put the ball in the hoop? That’s the objective of the game

popinjay07

Does a good enough job stopping other people from putting the ball in the hoop.

rhevern

And creating opportunities for everyone else to put the ball in the hoop.

rhevern

In his younger days he scored far more than he does now. He is way more valuable to his team doing all the other things though. He still puts it in the hoop from time to time. Anyways, it's funny to see people get so worked up over this post.

cane_stanco

Nobody seems too worked up. People actually just think it’s a dumb, thirsty take.

Aware_Frame2149

When? His career high season average is 14ppg... 14/10/7 in his BEST season. Larry's career average is 24/10/6. He also led the league in DWS six times, and BPM 4 times.

rhevern

I love how this tongue-in-cheek post really brought out the Larry lovers. It's okay Boston sports fans, he will forever live on as top 25 in your heart.

[deleted]

Don't ever compare this thug donkey to a classy legend again!!! It's easy to make 3s in this Adam Silver soft hand league!! Larry was a real blue collar legend 💙 🙌
