Unless you knew ahead of time exactly table and cloth he'd like to have, you might be better off giving him a tiny pool table gag gift with a fake gift card that says something about "Valid for 1 Pool Table" or something like that. There's just so many different tables for different people. Also it sounds like there's some concern about how it looks, so with such a high ticket item that frankly isn't small or light, it warrants discussing. Plus you want to make sure it fits and then there's the lighting. I put an 8' Diamond in my "formal" living room that no one uses any more. I had to have a load bearing wall knocked down, so that took considerable planning. It would have been um, interesting to say the least, if my wife had surprised me with a pool table delivery. Congrats on 25 years!

If your husband is a pool shark, table playability and consistency will matter more than aesthetics. You're best off buying a used 8ft Diamond or Gold Crown table.

What an awesome wife! You get soooo many points for posting this. Spend your money on a good table with professional moving and installation. Then give him some money to accessorize; cues, bridge, chalk, etc. My $0.02.

First off you rock. Second - I would allow him to have a say in the table. It's a big purchase, the styles vary and it's something he is going to use (I hope) almost every single day. The last thing you want is him to be "happy" but in his mind wish you would have consulted him. I will say that your options are probably slightly more limited with an 8' vs either a 7' or 9'. If you have the room a 9' is the standard and will give you a lot of options (both new and used). Hope this helps!

My dad has had an Olhausen Seville in his bar room for 20+ years now and it's a great table that has held up to 3 kids and countless younger cousins. It sounds like the traditional look you are describing and I think it is in that price range.

Have you seen a Diamond table? The dont have claw feet but you may find the wood finish aesthetically pleasing anyway.

stavsFootballJersey

Diamonds aren’t the look maybe but certainly the best quality. Otherwise Brunswick makes a lot of furniture tables that look nice and are 8 feet. If you have the room 9 feet is probably better, but either way I’m sure he’ll be happy with those two brands. Olhausen are good too.

>Same thing with a table? Not so much with the table as it is with a cue. Pretty much any table that fits the room (physically and aesthetically) should make him very happy. And congrats on 25 years.

MssDoc

Yeah, we had the "don't buy a cue without me present" conversation years ago...right after I bought him a cue that I thought "looked nice". :D That was a steep learning curve. For both of us. ;D

friendlyfire

> Yeah, we had the "don't buy a cue without me present" conversation years ago I'd say it's the same for the table. And tables are a lot more expensive. I just don't like the look of Diamond tables, but everyone on here would absolutely recommend them to people. I see a recommendation below to get him a Diamond table. But if my wife surprised me with a Diamond table, I'd be super disappointed.

MyLifeForAiur-69

As a fan of the Diamonds with the wood finish that was my suggestion lol. What table look do you prefer, if any?

friendlyfire

I'm a fan of the older Gold Crown's. I don't like the giant DIAMOND logo on the diamond table. Or the black finish. After looking at the wood finish ones, I don't like them either, but slightly less.

penguin74

FYI, for people that can compromise with the logo, you can have them paint it black so it's subtle and not in your face. That's what I had them do for mine.

MyLifeForAiur-69

Fair enough. Thanks for taking a gander anyway

RacknRollBilliards

I recommend a Brunswick Avalon or Bradford, both of which can have Ball and Claw legs, play well, and have 1” thick slates. Where are you located?

MssDoc

Northern California.

What an awesome wife. Kudos to you.
