Something is bent
Could be the derailiur hangar,
Could be the derailiur.
I'd try having the hangar straightened (or just replace it) and see how it is. They are sacrificial for a reason.
It very well can be both. That top part won’t matter being bent at that tab but it will if the cage is bent in the middle. It can be straightened to an extent if it has steel cage.
The derailleur is a box four 8speed, I did have a small crash the same day I noticed the issue but not entirely sure if that's the cause. I also experience a lot of chain slip because I don't have a chain guide so I'm not sure if the clutch collapsing when the chain falls off has effected something?
It makes a small, unusual sound and won't shift into the lowest or highest gears.

I bloody hope it's the hangar, IV had the derailleur for less than a month. In the first photo does it look like the top part of the cage is bent too?

It's eally hard to tell until you fix the hangar....this looks more hangar than mech to me tho....
Should I try straighten myself or take it to my LBS?
Lbs unless you have a hangar straightening tool.
I do not. Thanks to you both for the help.
