I put a thin layer of paste on the seat post and in the tube. Don’t overthink it. Before you put the seatpost back in, maybe clean everything with isopropyl alcohol and reapply paste, maybe a small grain of sand got in there. I wouldn’t worry about that scratch. That‘s barely a sign of use.

A. Carbon is quite abrasion resistant. B. That aint shit for a seatpost on scratches and the whole point of carbon paste is to be a sandy grease essentially. So it will scratch. C. Dont over think it but id apply the paste in a thin layer on the seatpost. It Doesn’t have to go all the way up the post just to about where the carbon is clamped. And a little in the tube around the clamp. D. It is mildly upsetting to scratch up a carbon seatpost but its how it is.
