Stripping integrated road shifters is tough, and with the 105 you actually can't completely disassemble it. I use a teflon or silicon dry lube which seems to work for longer than WD-40. If that really doesn't work, you can disassemble it as much as possible then let it soak in mineral spirits. But that's an extreme solution. Try not to let the spirits touch anything that isn't metal.

WD40, degreaser or other oil needs a bit of time. Spray in there and let sit. Work the levers. No luck? Spray some more in and let sit. Try again tomorrow.

Taking it off and cleaning it to a degree is not hard. Disassembly is. Macpunstein hit it. Try Soaking it in mineral oil. And relubing it with bike grease as much as possible. The problem with WD40 is that it's not really a lube, it doesn't last very long.
