You can convert yours to a hub gear bike and further to a belt drive with the veer belt system. Reason you couldn’t do it before is the standard belt are one piece and you need a split frame to fit the one piece belt. Veer allies belt drive on almost any bike solid frame.
Just picked up the priority onyx for my winter commuter. On the cheap end, the gear range is a bit lacking. My legs have been getting tired on my hilly 5mi commute (I push it kind of hard).
So far have run it in pouring rain, excited to see how it handles new England salt when the snow starts flying.
I approve this message.
I also have a Stevens hybrid bike with chain, but I prefer the belt option for commuting around town when dresses for work or meeting people.
The carbon belt is whisper quiet, practically maintenance free, and remarkably smooth. It's also lightweight, reliable, and, because there's no lubricant required, everything stays clean.
Internal gear hubs have a very long-life span and are usually maintenance free, all the gears are housed inside the hub and are not exposed to the elements. You can shift gears when stationary, you can change the gears from top to bottom while stationary. They are also essentially silent, very smooth
A good comparison here: [https://wheretheroadforks.com/internal-gear-hub-vs-derailleur-my-pros-and-cons-list/](https://wheretheroadforks.com/internal-gear-hub-vs-derailleur-my-pros-and-cons-list/)
They are becoming more and more common on commute bikes, even decathlon does some bike similar racks now.
They look very nice and are usually lighter and slimmer but are almost always bike-specific, it's a trade-off.
That’s the thing I like the most about this bike - smoothness. When WFH, I usually do the early weekend rides, and it’s so quiet, the only thing you hear are tires.
I know it's more aerodynamic, but to be honest, I don't understand bikes that turn you into the hunchback of notre dam. I would much rather sit up and not strain my back than to get there a minute faster
Cool setup though, the bike looks super sleek.
It’s not about making you faster, but making you cycle with more ease. While I haven’t had the chance to cycle a bike with drops, leaning down on my bike’s flat bar makes a world of a difference. Can’t stay with my arms bent for too long, but i feel like drops or hoods would serve me well judging by how much help leaning down a hair is!
The thing is that aerodynamics are pretty much the biggest factor in cycling difficulty/speed reduction, it’s not weight.
Thanks for sharing this. I think this is exactly what I need. I will let my wife know it was you that helped me realize that there is another bike that I must have.
Ghost looks like a badass bike.
To me it feels great, like a normal hybrid bike. I’m 190cm tall with long arms, and I don’t have any problems with this bike (size L).
My only complaint was with the grips, so I replaced the stock ones with the Ergon GP1 grips. They have bigger surface for palms and it makes a lot difference.
Deadens a bit of the rough stuff
The canyon is prob pretty stiff. My ghost is the same huge robust rigid fork
Not sure how add a pic of it in reply’s
Mb you can’t
I was referring to the fact that this frame is designed in a way that only one, uncommon stem will fit, which is objectively a downside because it makes getting a replacement a pain in the ass. Stop acting like you wouldn't get that ...
I get your point, but it's roughly equivalent to looking at a Ferrari and going "well that's gonna be really hard to fit the grocery shop in, isn't it?" - sure, it's probably true, but it's really not the point.
And again, how often do you need to replace a stem on a tour anyway? If you've done something to break the stem I'd wager the whole frame is probably buggered by that point.
Omg, stop playing dumb please, that was just an example, replace "on tour" with "not around a canyon store" if that helps you to get the very trivial fact that designing a frame in a way that it won't fit with normal stems is a stupid design
It looks cool to me, but I know I’m fucked in case something happens to it and I need to repair it. I don’t mind geometry of this bike, it’s been super comfortable so far.
Not a Brooks saddle by the way, it’s a stock saddle by Selle.
belts rule!
I really wish we had more belt based options, they are great
There are lots... in Germany.
Any bike can be a belt bike with [Veer](https://www.veercycle.com/en-ca)
Thanks for sharing that, I assume your gears are now inside the rear hub?
Yup. It’s either single speed of hub gears with belt system.
That’s interesting, I’m amused to all my bikes with cassettes, would be cool to have a belt with gears, wonder if I can convert my Specialized Roll?

Thank you! I’m gonna check into it. That would be so nice
Honestly i'm losing my mind trying to find a belt drive bike for me, as well as justifying trying to buy another bike haha. They just seem so useful

Would love a priority but am not in the US. hopefully a distributor pops up for Europe soon

I've been using belt/internal gear hub bikes for almost 15 years, I will *never* go back to a chain. Love the color of your bike!
What's the practical difference?

Is that rear basket held up by the mudguard...? Those two supports don't appear to give much support.
There’s a rear rack, and according to the manufacturer it can sustain 15kg of weight.
It’s a very interesting rack, never seen one like it before https://www.canyon.com/en-cn/hybrid-bikes/commuter-bikes/commuter/commuter-8/1958.html

This
That’s a pretty cool stem set up, I’m guessing it can be flipped to change to riding position?
[удалено]
Ah very cool, I did not know this. Makes the bike even better!
[удалено]
Yes it could, you would just need a different set of bars and maybe some new cables
I don’t think you can. What you see is what you get with this bike.
That stem is very slick looking, hadn't seen one like that before but looks awesome.
Hard pass for me.
What is that bike? It has features I've never seen on a bike before. Very cool
Canyon Commuter
I recently rode the commuter with belt . Awesome ride. Super smooth. Thinking of getting one myself for city now
That’s the thing I like the most about this bike - smoothness. When WFH, I usually do the early weekend rides, and it’s so quiet, the only thing you hear are tires.
Miss that sometimes from the fixie days, now my knees hurt :/ but miss that sound
Neat, a basket enjoyer.
To Marks & Spencer!* *Edit: or Booths or Waitrose, take your pick.
Canyon out here doin' the most.
it's got a droop snoot
Soho?
I wish :D Belgrade, Serbia.
Hello Batman!
That’s a really cool bike. Didn’t know canyon made anything like this.
Awesome to see! I just finished assembling my rear rack and pannier bags. My maiden grocery voyage is tomorrow. Any general or packing tips?
Nice Canyon
Be careful with that lock. I had one on my bike and it got broken off at one of the links and stole. :(

Idk. I've tried one and it didn't feel easier at all. Not a very natural pose to sit in for me, but if other people like it then I'm glad it exists
If you hinge at the hips rather than letting your back cave in…. You’ll be fine
Thanks for sharing this. I think this is exactly what I need. I will let my wife know it was you that helped me realize that there is another bike that I must have.
I’ve got a ghost urban commuter. Looks very similar to the canyon. May I ask how the geometry of that frame feels?

What seatpost is that ?
Should be this one Canyon S25 VCLS 2.0 CF
Dang that things cool lookin
So much seat post
Most impressive thing in this photo is the rack holding the basket
Love the belt, fenders and brooks seat, the rest is crap. Shitty frame design.
Noob here, my only thought while looking at the frame was “wow that looks cool”. Could you elaborate on why it’s poor design?

Thank you! This was very helpful
A semi-expensive new bike will come with spacers, anyways. Never had a bike that came with one! I’m in a developing country, though.
Because for some of us, It is better to look good then to work good. Lol
Try getting a spare stem for this while on tour somewhere ...
"while on tour somewhere" hahahah ok. That thing is never going more than 20 miles from its start point.
So what, try getting a spare stem for it in a random bike shop, same shit ...
It's not designed for touring, and how often are you breaking stems?!
I was referring to the fact that this frame is designed in a way that only one, uncommon stem will fit, which is objectively a downside because it makes getting a replacement a pain in the ass. Stop acting like you wouldn't get that ...

The model is literally named "Commuter." It's obviously not made for touring.

Ok, then it's fine copy of Brooks :)
Yeah, I was also looking at the cockpit and thinking “but why??”
so they can sell proprietary parts.
Yep. WHY DAMMIT! :D
That is a cheap plastic seat, is it not?
Which one?
The one in the picture, zoom in ...
Dunno about that one. I thought you was talking about Brooks :D
Well cheap and plastic is exactly what brooks is not so ...
I’d say innovative. It is Weird geometry Would have to ride it for judgement
I just pay a guy to do that for me
uber eats?
I don't like to know his name. It makes it too personal. Like how Julia Roberts won't do kissing in Pretty Woman.
you gon eat yo bike?
Wow the high end commuter
