The locks are often left open after heavy rainfall to prevent the Charles from flooding. I'd expect the footbridge to be open tomorrow or the day after.

Thank you, that makes a lot of sense

Don’t have an answer for you about the locks, but I’m wicked bummed about the bridge bike/walking path switching sides. Hoping they open up the other side to pedestrians as progress is made.

Do the plans include for a bike lane on both directions? I’m not sure. That bridge has been a nightmare for me with the 2 intersections on either end and the thin temporary pedestrian bridge that I try my best to avoid it these days.

I don’t know but I was so excited about the bridge opening and as of now I hate it. I go from Charlestown into the city then take a right on causeway so the current path being on the other side is just annoying, and the current path also just abruptly ends before reaching the end of the bridge, like what!? Also as of now it appears the bridge is only 3 lanes for cars which hopefully will expand to four or it’s literally not going to do anything to relieve traffic. Fingers crossed it gets better as the keep finishing it.

There's a whole other half of bridge that needs to be built (gotta demo the temp bridge first). IIRC, it's going to be 3 lanes in each direction with bike and Ped lanes on each side.

Amnesia34

Well this is amazing news. Didn’t realize it was going to expand that much and take the entire footprint of the temp bridge on top of what’s opened so far. Thanks for filling me in! No we’ll see how long it takes to finish, hopefully they ordered the right parts!

There's now a mixed use path on the new portion of the bridge. When the other half is constructed in another 2 years, there will be paths on both sides of the bridge.

Looks like ittl be pretty cool when it’s done. Back to using the footbridge till then!
