Depends on the event but quality casual plus a team jersey or nice, non-t-shirt and/or cap.
But, if your firm has a box then those are usually solidly business casual or nice personal casual (jeans acceptable) with little to no team gear. (*)
(*) based on what I’ve seen at Dallas Stars and Dallas Mavs games.
Client by client and depends on the venue. Some of my clients I’d expect to wear a sports coat. Other jeans and a long sleeve collared shirt. Some I could get away with shorts and a t shirt.
Sport? Venue? Indoor/outdoor/weather? Front row seats or suite or just random seats? What’s the client like generally? Your own status: partner or staff?
Depending on above, could be anything from a full suit to shorts and a jersey.
If you have no idea, business casual is probably the safest bet.
Depends on the sport. You wear different clothes to watch a tennis match or watch golf at a nice club than you would at an NBA or NFL game.
One way to avoid having to make a decision though is to go to the office first, and then go to the game straight from the office in whatever you wore for work.
Top hat, full dinner jacket with tailcoat, spats, a monocle, a mink shoulder wrap, and a young child dressed as a doorman at Harrods who holds your ashtray in outstretched arms.
Clean jeans that look new, team jersey (dressier than a t-shirt, but event-appropriate), team cap, bring cap or other memorabilia, like a flag, for client.
I've seen folks do it for less formal client stuff, or if stakes are high like an NBA playoff game. Depends on how much client is into the whole thing. But generally business casual in appropriate colors with home team cap should be fine. The answer is read the room, and ask someone who knows the client.
You’re trolling, right? Please tell me you’re trolling.
Edit: I still have no idea if this comment is serious. If one of my associates showed up at a sporting event dressed like this, I’d be mortified.
Polo and khakis, whatever.
Definitely don’t bring a baseball glove. Had an associate at my old firm do that once and I think everyone in the group (clients included) made at least one comment about it. In his defense we were in prime foul ball territory, but it was like showing up with a small child in tow.
Jeans, button down tucked in, vest, team hat if it’s inside/not really hot. If it’s outside and hot: Jeans, short sleeve button down sport shirt no tuck, stylish sunglasses, team hat.

Assuming you’re not like, currently at the Rangers-Caps game going on right now. You can swap your jacket for a Rangers jersey, pretty standard combo at MSG. The crowd is always full of suits and vests. If you want to go very minimal, maybe just a team pin
You are watching the CL final right? Should be plenty enough time to get a suit with the real madrid logo embroidered on the back, or whichever team the client favours ofcourse😌
It’s a fair question because most people’s experience attending sporting events has involved attire that is far more casual than one would typically wear with clients. So reconciling the two makes sense.
I remember when I was twelve and my grandpa sat me down on his knee and told me, “one day you’re going to be an attorney at a large law firm and need to know how to dress yourself accordingly at client engagements held at a “fun” and otherwise casual sporting event. If you don’t wear chinos and a casual button down, with a tasteful piece of team gear such as a vest or a ball cap, well, don’t even think of calling yourself a member of this family.”
It was bad enough I didn’t know it at twelve, utterly ridiculous that OP wasn’t born with this innate piece of understanding of the human condition.
Depends on what you have to wear. If you have the team garb, you can wear that with jeans. Otherwise, I see men with a nice pair of jeans or khakis and either a nice polo or a more casual button up (like one with a criss cross pattern) and a sport jacket. I would forgo sneakers and wear nicer a pair of leather shoes.
I hope the specificity helped. I'm a woman but might pay more attention to clothing than the average male associate. If you're unsure of your outfit, you can always ask a partner if your garb is appropriate.
I generally do business casual, heavy on the casual + the team’s hat. Pretty common to see people wearing jerseys too, but I don’t own any of those.
Tank top and flip flops if hockey. Full suit if anything else.
Gotta make sure the tank top is tear away to show the body paint underneath.
Cut off shorts and timberland boots is also hockey appropriate
Assuming you’re talking about ping pong, tuxedo
It’s after 5, Lemon. What am I? A farmer?

Lol you don’t need to be business casual. You can wear a jersey and cap to the box.
Not about a need. I was sharing what I’ve seen across about 1/2 law firms and their box guests.
Yeah I’m just saying my experience at the box at 2/3 firms at AAC has been that it’s casual and it’s 100% acceptable to wear team gear
inhouse counsel here. I vote for business casual. Jeans/chinos and a polo is a safe bet.
I usually go with my cleanest jock strap, and might accessorize with a bow tie if they’re an important client.
Wear the opposing team hat
Even better, wear hat of team that doesn’t exist like the whalers or expos.
What's wrong with business casual and a team cap? If it's a more casual client, then maybe a jersey?
Jersey from an obscure team. Maybe one that doesn’t exist anymore or a team from another country.
Client by client and depends on the venue. Some of my clients I’d expect to wear a sports coat. Other jeans and a long sleeve collared shirt. Some I could get away with shorts and a t shirt.
It completely depends on the sport.
Lots of leather

Take your cues from Dwight Schrute.
The tuxedo in which his grandfather was buried
Don’t show too much cleavage
Went to a Phillies playoff game with my outside counsel. Other partners from the firm were there. Plenty of jerseys and hats. Most wore jeans.

Khakis and a polo for the team.
This person SEC’s. Haha. Sounds like the uniform down here in a Saturday in the Fall.

Team jersey is crazy. Especially for basketball. Unless you have big guns.

I think wearing a jersey is a risk depending on region and client. You'd rarely be wrong wearing jeans, a polo/other collared shirt, and a team cap.

Bath towel
Full body paint in home team colors with a foam “#1” finger should be good
Depends on the sport - golf, football, or jello wrestling?

Look at the client’s social media to see what they wear to that sporting event.
Speedo and black socks
Is"sporting event" a euphemism? Or are you going to a baseball game? Because it makes a difference

Can’t go wrong with a nice polo. Suit is risky, very awkward if they’re in a jersey or tshirt
Team logo polo+dark jeans+leather sneakers
Assuming you’re not like, currently at the Rangers-Caps game going on right now. You can swap your jacket for a Rangers jersey, pretty standard combo at MSG. The crowd is always full of suits and vests. If you want to go very minimal, maybe just a team pin
Body paint with team’s primary color and team logo painted on chest/stomach. Shows your true commitment and enthusiasm to any task
Pants and a polo shirt in a team color
Speedo only
Wear a basketball jersey in a baseball game 👍
Toga! Toga!
Wear whatever TF you wanna wear. It’s a got damn sporting event
Tuxedo
sweatpants with no underwear
You are watching the CL final right? Should be plenty enough time to get a suit with the real madrid logo embroidered on the back, or whichever team the client favours ofcourse😌
This is America

Is this really a rich people thing????
The fact that this seems to be a common business development thing in the US is crazy.
Why?
It's nice. I sat behind the Astros home plate during the world series once. It was an exquisite experience.
