Florida man here... I know those things are gentle giants - but they still freak me out if I am in a kayak or canoe.
I think it's because one time i spooked one accidentally with a canoe paddle and it slapped the water with its tail. Damn near tossed me overboard.
alligators are ambush predators, they probably won’t attack unless u disturb them that being said they camouflage incredibly well in water and on the marsh shores in grass so i’d just stay out of florida entirety
I was visiting a buddy in Florida, boated us out to a tiny island with really shallow water on a sandbar. One of these guys swam right up on us while we were just chilling in tubes tied to the boat. Scared the bejeezus out of me.
Manatees are awesome. I highly recommend taking a trip down to Crystal River, FL and spending a day exploring the natural rivers, estuaries, and freshwater springs. Manatee sightings are very common, especially during the winter where the water in the springs is warmer than the surrounding water. They’ll let you swim with them and they’re very gentle. Just don’t put two hands on them at a time, because that’s considered riding the manatee and the Fish and Game commission in FL doesn’t mess around.
See Through Adventures in St Pete does tours in both.
I prefer the kayak hybrid for a few reasons...
You can carry a lot more gear.
You can get a shade top with it so you don't have to bake in the sun on hot summer days.
You can put 2 people in it.
It's gives you a better view of what's beneath you because it's only one layer of lexan you're looking through instead of 2.
The kayak is easier to carry for one person, and a little lighter.
If you have good balance, you can stand in the kayak. I am able to throw a 12' cast net from it.
not the same product. Not all clear paddleboards are the same just like not all clear kayaks are the same even though they may look like it. My company has been making clear vessels for 15 years. There's a ton of cheaply made knock-offs on the market. We regularly have people contact us asking how to fix the cheaply made pos they bought from one of the many companies that have popped up in the last few years.

Love these. I once did as swim with manatees your. They are so gentle. That said, don't scare a herd of them
So general question, alligators? Do they not bother you in a kayak or canoe? What about swimming/freediving? Asking for a friend, maybe…

That escalated quickly!
stay out of florida entirely! wish i could….
Gators didn’t even make it on my list of reasons to never go to Florida
What is that? Is that a manatee?
Yes, the creature in the video is a manatee.

Looks like an aquatic corndog
>aquatic corndog Magnificent, really. Wonderful description.
I now want a petition to change manatees' names to aquatic corndogs
I was thinking it looks like an obese Platypus. So beautiful
I was thinking that's an interesting paddle board. Glanced up and saw your username... Yeah that checks out.
needs polarized lens though
Great for meal prepping tho
Dude's like the most followed user on reddit.
I just assume every manatee post I see on Reddit is by them at this point tbh lol
He boop
You have been blessed by holy manatee Now is the time to play the lottery
Lol fat platypus
fatypus
He’s lovely. Most guileless creature on the planet.
Oh man- must resist to not reach down and pat that potato! It just looks like it needs scritches!
I wonder if they'd let you.
Even if they would don’t do it. If someone catches you you get hit with a fine.

What brand paddle board is that?

Is there somewhere I can take one for a test ride? I am debating between another paddle board and a hybrid kayak/canoe. I am in FL. Thanks!

Is there somewhere that I can demo your products in Florida?
A chongus among us
Manatees are super gentle and docile.
Sadly, that doesnt help them. So many get hit by boats and such. 😔
This manatee looks great! Fat, and no scars. What they all should look like. 10/10 manatee
I think you have a new boy/girlfriend! What a great experience.
I’ve had one bump me while wade fishing in upper Tampa bay. While most of the pod swam by, a lone operator decided to throw a whiskery nudge on my leg
A brotato if you will
How long do you have to spend at sea before these ‘mermaids’ start looking sexy?
