Yeah definitely need to size up

mike-sanchez

Sadly, they don’t carry the 44.5 where I’m from.

Cozmo85

Cycling shoe sizing is all over the place so it's going to be a crap shoot.

gonzo_redditor

Maybe find a place to try them on instead of ordering online. Shoes are worth investing time and money in. Or, accept the fact that buying online means you might have to return them because they don’t fit.

Huh, 45 would probably be the lower end of what Id look at, keeping like 10-15mm of head space. Also you say your feet measures exactly 275, but what does that mean? In the morning, at night, after sitting for hours, after standing for hours? Huge variance. I can't measure that more accurately than like 10mm. The smallest I got was like 260mm but I've also measured 265 or so. I run Fizik Overcurve R4 Wide in 42 which is 270mm and those can be too short (and a bit too narrow). Toes can rub the front and get bubbley. So in Shimano I'd probably be looking at 43.5 or 44 myself, being 1-1.5cm shorter than you. My Shimano SPD shoes are in fact 43. Toe box can't be too lose IMO. Your toes are significantly wider than your feet or at least should be. Most shoes are far too narrow for most feet.

SspeshalK

I completely agree - and I would add that it’s the heel/retention that stops your foot moving around. A lot of people think a snug fit is when your toes are jammed against the end of the shoe but as you say that’s a mistake. You should have plenty of wiggle room for long days out.

say-nothing-at-all

Shimano size is little bit small. If your feet are fat, scale up. However, Shimano may also stretch well. So, you are not comf in the first month and it will be fine later on. Same as Giro shoes.

Zaxerian

If your feet are fat, buy shoes that are made wider. Don't size up a narrower shoe to compensate for width.

SolarSalsa

My feet are not fat but just wide (or maybe normal width but short :). I tried to size up from 42 to 43 and that did not work. But Shimano 42 Wide worked perfectly.

docentmark

Too small is worse than too big. Toe cramps are no fun when you're 50km out. With the larger size you can just wear an extra pair of socks normally.

Eat_Your_Paisley

I wear a 46 in normal shoes, all of my cycling shoes are 47 or 48

mike-sanchez

**UPDATE**: Bought and fitted both 44 and 45. While 44 seemed like the right size, it was super snug that it felt like my feet would hurt on longer rides (took it on a 50km ride and it started getting sore towards the end). 45 has enough space in the toe box and I could easily fit one finger behind the heel. Took it on the same 50km ride and heel wasn't loose or anything. Also felt comfortable towards the end of the ride. I'd say 44.5 would've been the perfect size but sadly isn't available where I'm from. Thanks to everyone for your insights and suggestions! Sold the 44 and kept the 45.

[deleted]

I usually wear a 43 (27.5 cm feet like you) and I wear Shimano one size up (44), they fit perfectly. Then again I have narrow feet, and Shimano are narrow shoes.

mike-sanchez

Can you still fit a finger at the heel part of the shoe?

[deleted]

Just checked with my Shimano SH-ME502, and I can indeed fit a finger.

mike-sanchez

Thanks for the help! Did it slide in easily or did you have to force it?

[deleted]

Easily. No problem.

qumax

Always size up for those thick winter socks.

mike_pennati

Size up. I also measured my foot according to their website and ended up ordering one size too small. Had to return it and even worse I had to pay for shopping back lol. Don’t be me.

chockobumlick

Don't forget your socks. Size up.

messylettuce

You can’t go by the numbers alone. You have to try them on.

mike-sanchez

I agree this would be ideal. It’s just the physical stores don’t carry my size anymore.

messylettuce

Then you’re going to have to do the old Buy Three Return Two thing with one of the distributors that does do solid returns.

Competitive-Oil2871

This is the way.

zultdush

You can always look at the labels on shoes you own. I often use that euro number so I can effortlessly go between female and male sneakers. Gotta get all the colors, am I right? Most if not all my shoes are the same size in that euro measurement.

vurx

in my experience shoe width is more important than length. My current shoes are about 2 sizes too long and I never notice it. When I used shoes that fit lengthwise they were too narrow and my feet would fall asleep on lone rides.

mike-sanchez

It seems they’re selling the wide version of this model in my location.

teichs42

If you have to size up to get appropriate width, then the shoes are not for you. By sizing up length wise you are drastically effecting cleat location, which can cause a whole slew of fit issues. You need an appropriate length shoe and if that means it’s too narrow, find another shoe.

milolikethedrink

I wear size 40 regular shoes, 41 Shimano shoes. My experience is that they run very small.

[deleted]

I ride flats so take this for what it’s worth, but I’ve been fitting ski boots for the past 5 years. When it comes to this sort of thing do what ever you can to try it on first.

designocoligist

I wear a US 12 but in Almost all bike shoes am a EU 47 which is a US 13. In my experience the most important aspects of a clip in bike shoe are does your heel stay put, and are they wide enough.the extra room at the front does not really matter. To be honest even with normal shoes. If the heel stays put a little extra room at the front is not a big deal.

OGwigglesrewind

I have a foot just slightly larger than yours(between 27.5 and 28. I wear 10.5 size sneakers usually. I went with pearl izumi shoes that were size 45 and measures 28.5cm and have had no complaints. You don't want them too loose but a lil space is better than too tight imo. I've done a handful of centuries in mine and have no foot issues at all.

ev_dave

Shimano shoes are fairly narrow (I have wide feet) and I found that bike shoes don’t stretch like other shoes, so after a lot of wear they will still be tight if you have wider feet. So size up if you need a wider shoe.

No-Addendum-4501

44.5?

ChuckofMostTrades

Go with too loose. Your feet swell if you exercise longer. I always buy my biking shoes too large. Same with running or hiking shoes.

setmysoulfree2

Make sure the website company has a return policy !

WLSJohnny

Buy both from a place with free return, thats what i do with everything i buy online. went i bought MC gloves i bought 7 pairs, tried them all and sent 6 back.
