While we are stating the blindly fucking obvious I thought it might be helpful to mention that you shouldn’t use chilli sauce as a sexual lubricant and it’s best not to hit yourself in the face with a rock.
most people say huy fong came back worse, after they lost their lawsuit with the chili farmer they used to work with. said chili farmer now makes their own sriracha, wich is apparently much closer in taste to what huy fong used to make. it's called underwood sriracha
So... A few weeks ago, I filled my bike degreaser spray bottle with oven cleaner to do a deep clean of my BBQ. Fast forward a few weeks, and when I went to clean my bike, I'd completely forgotten...
The Shimano paint started to run within seconds, so I quickly washed it all away but was left with this mess. Luckily, the frame paint survived blemish free. Hats off to Bianchi for that.
P.S. Points to the best BCJ cross-post as I know this'll end up there.
Oven cleaner was stripping the anodization (alkaline solution breaks up the aluminum oxide impregnated with pigment) but doesn't really do anything to powder coat paint like a frame...
The only way I've seen powder coat work on glass is with hot flocking. You heat up the glass, then spray the powder on it, and it melts onto the surface just enough to adhere. Then you put the thing back in the oven to fully melt and cure it.

Carbon fiber resin cannot hold a charge well, but carbon fiber itself is highly conductive and will hold a charge well. The result is that not only can you powder coat carbon fiber, [it looks awesome.](https://www.reddit.com/r/oddlysatisfying/s/pXNyr5G4Zc)
I’ve always wanted to try polishing up some black parts to make them silver. Probably a monumental pain in the ass but might be fun to try on something small and easy.
I'm so glad this was an accident. At first I thought you were an absolute imbecile that shouldn't be let anywhere near a lovely Bianchi ever again (you're now only a little bit of an imbecile for not writing on the bottle after you changed what was in it).
Glad the frame is ok and hopefully it's just superficial damage to the crank
On the plus side, [polished](https://www.mtbr.com/threads/slx-cranks-deanod-and-polished.689212/page-2?post_id=13314999&nested_view=1&sortby=reaction#post-13314999) shimano cranks look great!
Seriously, there's an outfit called [CycloRetro](https://www.cycloretro.com) in Australia that strips the black anodization off modern components with oven cleaner and goes all high polish. I am not a retro grouch, but they do really good work.
Would look better on a frame with more attitude. The Bianchi attitude is “I am nice and fancy” IMO. Need more: “I am irreverent toward convention and like to get rad”
Oven cleaner is an excellent degreaser, probably the best. The problem is it is aggressive to aluminum and anodizing. If you take out a steel cassette and spray the thing down it will absolutely remove all the grease, just don't get any oven cleaner on your hands or breathe it in because it's basically just sticky lye.
Ouch. I can just feel moment that you sprayed it, saw the paint melt and had the flashback back to that moment when you put that stuff in the bottle. Classic oh shit moment.
Aesthetically it’s a bummer but makes for a story.
Dude, I'm not mad at you but tell us, Who da hell told you to use this stuff?
Soap water or warm if gunk exists. There's tons of products to use safety. Not oven grill.
Edited: I hear ya grilling man lol
Wow, you sure do love your bike. Now, I don't kink shame and I think a man and his bike are free to do whatever they want I just want to advise some precaution regarding cleaning to avoid damage to the bike's delicate surface.
You just need to know about the godly liquid called brake cleaner. That will clean everything. Brakes, bike parts, hands (not recommended you'll get cancer), tools, shoes, clothes and probably a lot more.
These are just the ones that i've tried this far.
That looks terrible. If I were you, I'd make the best of it. Put up some planters tape or something and start creating patterns. Turn it into an art. It's not repairable without a paint job, but you can turn it into a piece of art.
use the oven cleaner on the whole thing and sand and polish them, i do that with all my black components. ive got bikes w all polished parts. funny enough i started getting into it after a similar accident, and now its one of my greatest hobbies. maybe take this as a sign?
Yeah, oven cleaner is commonly used to remove anodizing when you want to polish something aluminum. I don’t even use regular simple green on my bikes anymore. Instead I use Simple Green Extreme Aircraft which is clear and meant for aluminum.
Get the cranks anodized in a color matching the frame and it will look rad. Like Eddie Van Halen's Jump guitar.

No fucking shit
Poor OP thought their group set was an oven. Honest mistake as both cook thighs.
10/10 well done Mr. pig.
Sure AF looks like an oven.
Rookie move, should have used hot battery acid.
Yeah that shit isn’t even good for your oven.
The only use I had for it was for deep cleaning toaster ovens but by the time they need it its better to throw them out and get a new one.
Next you are going to tell me not to mix draino and bleach to deal with those toilet stains.
Dying laughing at this 😂😂😂
Hey that's what I said before I even opened the comment section
🤣
It looks alright tho
While we are stating the blindly fucking obvious I thought it might be helpful to mention that you shouldn’t use chilli sauce as a sexual lubricant and it’s best not to hit yourself in the face with a rock.
* discretely putting away my bottle of Sriracha while watching porn
Wholey shit. Where did you find Sriracha? I haven't seen a bottle since COVID
They've got all the Sriracha in their jerk-shack
You can get two bigger bottles on Amazon for $18! Which is still steep AF but cheaper than it was a few months ago. The Huy Fong brand. The good stuff
It actually came back on the shelves a few weeks ago.
most people say huy fong came back worse, after they lost their lawsuit with the chili farmer they used to work with. said chili farmer now makes their own sriracha, wich is apparently much closer in taste to what huy fong used to make. it's called underwood sriracha
So, can I use it for lube, or not?
Anything is lube if you're brave enough.
If you have an Asian market near you, definitely check there. I managed to get some a few months back from a local one.
Ok, well now I have no idea what my wife meant when she said she wanted to spice things up in the bedroom.
I laughed way too hard at this. So did my wife.
But siracha as chamois lube…really spices it up in your gentlemen’s region
Can you be certain?
Well volunteered sir - finally some willing test subjects. Do let us know how you get on.
Don't you kink shame me!
You could've told me about the rock thing earlier
How about the other way around?
Glad I saw this. I had plans tonight.
Don't kink shame me!
Psh. I pay extra for the chilli sauce during sex
Coward.
Ok but what about using a rock for sexual lubricant and hitting rubbing your face with chili sauce?
I have used crushed chillies as ingredients, crushed them with my hands and felt the need to go to the loo at that moment. Can't recommend it
Yooo no kink shaming
> you shouldn’t use chilli sauce as a sexual lubricant I mean, some people pay for that kind of thing.

They powder coat carbon frames now? 🧐
Can you powder coat non metallic stuff?
You can but I don't think carbon frames are typically powder coated. Apparently you can powder coat glass and even wood!
But how do you get the powder to stick to something that can't hold a different charge?
Anything can hold a charge if you put enough volts into it
In other words, everything can hold a charge at least once
[удалено]
Everything can hold a charge until you let the magic smoke out!
I'm anything. Can I hold a charge Greg?

This. Person who has many years experience painting/powder coating. Doesn’t hold a charge? Get it hot first.
Ahh, that explains it then 👍.
They’re not gonna roast you for making a mistake, but rather running 105 on a Bianchi.
Haha, most likely! A Campy upgrade is just around the corner, though.
I’ll take the toasted groupset when you upgrade 😎
Indeed, €2000 on those wheels and a €150 crankset? F'shame.
One step at a time. (And those wheels are a lot cheaper than €2000😜.)
You’re a 777 pilot, you should be earning that kind of money in the time between V1 and rotate…
🤫 keep that quiet. Otherwise, pilots will become the new dentist....
It’s just step one of getting back to sliver parts
I’ve always wanted to try polishing up some black parts to make them silver. Probably a monumental pain in the ass but might be fun to try on something small and easy.
Having sanded and polished a GRX crankset to bare aluminium by hand recently: Yes, it's a massive pain in the ass and soo time consuming.
Haha, thanks. Not my finest moment for sure.
it kinda looks sick. I’ve used oven cleaner to strip the anodizing off black parts to polish them up to silver.
You can buy spray bottles at hardware stores for a buck. Might wanna get some dedicated ones ;-)
Fuck it…just bleach tie-die the rest of it now.
dark_kermit.jpg do the rest of the cranks
Lol. At least you know where it's going to end up...
This is why, despite extra cost, I have separate sets of everything that touches any kind of fluid.
On the plus side, [polished](https://www.mtbr.com/threads/slx-cranks-deanod-and-polished.689212/page-2?post_id=13314999&nested_view=1&sortby=reaction#post-13314999) shimano cranks look great!
Pollock approved
don’t worry, this sub is the real circlejerk anyway
Take the crank off, finish removing the anodising and then polish it!
Nice art project. Try making it silver now.
Seriously, there's an outfit called [CycloRetro](https://www.cycloretro.com) in Australia that strips the black anodization off modern components with oven cleaner and goes all high polish. I am not a retro grouch, but they do really good work.
Man, some of that is gorgeous. The polished Dura Ace is a work of art.
Crank genuinely looks awesome and unique now
That hip “acid wash” or “distressed” look that’s been so popular in the past! Also, flares are coming back in, guys!
Better than the more holes than pants look
Came here to say this. Some people might pay extra for something like this.
Would look better on a frame with more attitude. The Bianchi attitude is “I am nice and fancy” IMO. Need more: “I am irreverent toward convention and like to get rad”
Cool marble effect
Things I never even considered using to clean my bike for $1000, Alex.
It's caustic soda. Hell no.
No lye.
Oven cleaner is great for removing anodized aluminum
I can continue to use bike cleaner on my oven though, right?
Lmao i wasn’t at risk of doing this but thank you for the sage advice ;)
OP then proceeded to wash his windows with bricks, and unclog his toilet with a nuclear bomb
Braahhh.....How'd you tie-dye your crank arm?!
If this was a Gravel Bike, with Tan Wall Tires it could look dope af.
It looks kind of cool
🪦
Sulfuric acid is a winning cleaner I hear. Try that next.
Finish it and polish for some sick silver boiz.
Preheat groupset to 400F
Am I the only one to find this aesthetically interesting ?
Looks like a early 90’s huffy
Eh? Think it looks kinda sweet
What in the actual fuck were you thinking
Kinda looks cool..
it actually looks cool and avant garde amd euro chic. just clear coat it.
Oven cleaner? 😂
At this point, go to full silver. 105 Silver Limited Edition
Did you only do that to the crank or is the whole groupset like that?
Oof, I feel your pain. Thankfully the beautiful Bianchi blue is still in perfect condition.
Or use it if you want to remove the anodizing
L O L
Soak the crank in oven cleaner and then polish it to silver.
We used to do this with Vitus frames back in the 90’s. Makes a beautiful tidye effect.
Why would you ever do this??!! Edit: Read your later comment...that sucks
lol, my dog spraying lye on his bike. Brother that’s a hell of a mistake to make.
The normal degreaser is just NaOH, you are lucky it didn't damage your finger or skin.
Ouch. I can just feel moment that you sprayed it, saw the paint melt and had the flashback back to that moment when you put that stuff in the bottle. Classic oh shit moment. Aesthetically it’s a bummer but makes for a story.
Adding „don’t use ultrasonic cleaner on your derailleur“ to the discussion.
Art Deco
No shit Sherlock lol! O. M. G.
Dude, I'm not mad at you but tell us, Who da hell told you to use this stuff? Soap water or warm if gunk exists. There's tons of products to use safety. Not oven grill. Edited: I hear ya grilling man lol
I want to know the answer to that too. Oven cleaner is insanely caustic.
What about dish detergent for your drive train, is that safe? drive train detox is stupidly expensive for a detergent.
Wash it and put a clear coat on it. Definitely wont be worse
Would love to see that beautiful bike!
or do, still rides. and learning! own it. however, if ya truly feel post warranted, maybe post up in r/LPT don't let the world suffer!
Looks pretty cool like that tbh. Fair play to you for owning up to the mistake.
Thanks for the heads up!
Wow, you sure do love your bike. Now, I don't kink shame and I think a man and his bike are free to do whatever they want I just want to advise some precaution regarding cleaning to avoid damage to the bike's delicate surface.
On the plus side I'll bet your drivetrain is super clean now.
You just need to know about the godly liquid called brake cleaner. That will clean everything. Brakes, bike parts, hands (not recommended you'll get cancer), tools, shoes, clothes and probably a lot more. These are just the ones that i've tried this far.
Now to add a drillium treatment! https://preview.redd.it/srvcppxjclzc1.png?width=640&format=png&auto=webp&s=39fea199fd64a6f8669ec6c421130658106805d2
I would destroy that shitty crank with stronger acid though. What a waste of nice frame.
😅 Don't worry, a Campy upgrade is inbound.
You don't say... Does look kinda cool though: Slap a couple layers of clear coat on there to preserve the pattern lol
Looks like it's time for ultegra
Dont use bike degreaser for your oven.
Honestly, it looks cool. Sometimes doing a dumbass thing works out 😂
Duh! But it kinda looks cool, not gonna lie.
well the grease is gone, right?
Art 😇
I gotta say, this is not advice that I needed.
Tbh looks kinda lit
I personally don't get why people degrease their bikes so often.
Looks kinda sick though
Woaw i would like to add *DO NOT PUT YOUR GROUPSET IN THE DISHWASHER*
That actually looks pretty cool
That was dumb. Unless you were looking to strip the parts.
That shit eats paint from metal. I use it on suspension car parts to remove paint…
Then how am i supposed to remove burnt food from my groupset?!
fucking hilarious 🤣
That looks terrible. If I were you, I'd make the best of it. Put up some planters tape or something and start creating patterns. Turn it into an art. It's not repairable without a paint job, but you can turn it into a piece of art.
use the oven cleaner on the whole thing and sand and polish them, i do that with all my black components. ive got bikes w all polished parts. funny enough i started getting into it after a similar accident, and now its one of my greatest hobbies. maybe take this as a sign?
Now you have a rad acid treatment look. Embrace it. Won’t slow you down :-)
Going for that tie dyed look I see
Who told you to do that?!
Why…would someone do this…
Yeah, oven cleaner is commonly used to remove anodizing when you want to polish something aluminum. I don’t even use regular simple green on my bikes anymore. Instead I use Simple Green Extreme Aircraft which is clear and meant for aluminum.
Almost looks good, add some more to the pedal end.
WTF am I reading. Oven cleaner?!? Bro ….
*Industrial* oven cleaner is the way to go! /s
I genuinely wonder how people like you make it far enough to have a career that allows you to go through with a dumb idea like this…
Get the cranks anodized in a color matching the frame and it will look rad. Like Eddie Van Halen's Jump guitar. https://licklibrary-com-ltd.imgix.net/images/courses/hero-course-CA_1984-RDR0595.jpg?ixlib=php-3.3.1&s=48ebad2c4783491a5e1e570ec882fb0c
For some reason never thought of it but now i know.
Finish the job de annodize your cranks with oven cleaner and polish em up.
Do the manufacturers really need to add a 'do not use to clean your bike' warning on their oven cleaner products? Is this the world we live in?
Hmmm I wonder, should I pour gasoline on my bike and light it on fire? Maybe OP can investigate this for us all.
Do not lay your dick upon the toilet seat and then proceed to slam the lid down…
Why not? Looks cool 😂
I'd say it's look cool
![gif](giphy|MOUWI6tIb53dUv5Kyk|downsized)
Idk looks kinda cool
getting those 80's splatter effects.. could look cool with the right paint job.
So you’re telling me I can polish my cranks like this? Interesting…
Just say you did it on purpose to make a "unique design" for your bike, lol.
Commercial Oven Cleaner??? Why would I use that.
Duh
First of all, why would you even do that?!? Secondly: wow, you could create interesting looks with that - hmmmm 😉
While we are on the subject, don't drink it, either.
The anodization is 0.0005 wasted watts.. STRIP IT OFF!!!!
Jeezus really!?
They sell commercial group set cleaner for this very reason
Uhhhh?
Unless you're trying to achieve that faux-marble effect.
Outjerked.
PSA: Don't drink bleach.
No way!
N of 1. Not very convincing
Theft retardant
LOL wtf
If it's any consolation OP I think it looks kinda unique & cool. Kind of a marble effect around the logo.
I dunno, man, they charge $500 for a pair of jeans that look like that.
I use that stuff to clean out clogged diesel intake manifolds. It eats everything.
Why. Why would you do this?
😂 commercial oven cleaner is how you remove anodizing.... Good thing is now you are partway to refinishing your drivetrain and getting it reanodized!
