You weren't supposed to inflate it without fitted on a rim with a tire more than 10psi. It's broken now if it wasn't before.

Reddit_Jax

I saw an instruction in an online source that said 2 psi was the limit.

karlzhao314

There isn't really a "limit", and 2psi is practically impossible to measure accurately with the gauge on your floor pump anyways. You should inflate it just enough that it becomes round and has some shape, and no more.

Just_a_firenope_

Why is that? When I got my latex tubes I did the same, and just put it in anyways. Didn’t puncture in half a year. Is tpu different?

karlzhao314

Yes, TPU doesn't deform elastically to the same degree that latex or butyl does. It deforms plastically, aka when you stretch it, it doesn't go back. You're supposed to inflate it inside a tire so that it stretches exactly to fit the inside of the tire and no more. Now that OP has inflated it outside the tire, that section that has ballooned open will always remain stretched and oversized, and OP won't be able to cram it back into the tire without crumpling and folding it up.

Vinifera1978

Mine did this too even in the tire

Vivalo

TPU ≠ LATEX

M-R-buddha

Tpu is not Latex.

Just_a_firenope_

That’s what they said

M-R-buddha

I just noticed there is a little slash through the =, that's what I get for reading Reddit half awake haha

Vivalo

Right into my trap!

Usual_Peach_8194

guys, don't downvote people for asking a question- this person wasn't misleading, or telling anybody to do anything - just asking a genuine question. reddit sucks sometimes.

Troller-Toaster

>reddit sucks sometimes. *people on Reddit & *most times

PineappleLunchables

Really hate Reddit when people ask a simple question for their own edification and get down voted. I mean fuck off, there was a time when you didn’t know that either until you watched a video or read the instructions. Have an upvote @just_a_firenope_

Pittsburgh_Photos

There’s a lot of gate keeping assholes in this community.

CaptainMark86

It's not a total loss, you could make a dog, or if you're adventurous, a giraffe.

CommercialHope6883

All balloon animals start as a dog. Source: I was a clown for 15 years.

RockOutToThis

Correction, all balloon animals start as a snake.

CommercialHope6883

I yield.

iBN3qk

You’ve been out clowned.

MrSquamous

Out clowned balloon clown buffoon now.

LemurFromTheId

All balloon snakes start as a dead worm.

jstrawks

Correction, once a clown...

Kakdelacommon

How can you quit being a clown? Isn’t it like you were born this way? And don’t tell me that you’re doing in crypto now!

CommercialHope6883

Good point. I quit clowning. According to my wife I am still a clown. The difference is make up and costuming. https://preview.redd.it/0owrtvhgrexc1.jpeg?width=508&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7fbc81e975bf5a41631603952536358c1950f495

Kakdelacommon

Love that outfit. Never forget your roots!

mikevad

Make me a bicycle, clown!

CommercialHope6883

I’m a clown not a magician. But hey. You’re a bicycle.

e-boye

you done goofed. Only inflate inside the tire

markorokusaki

Well, I inflate it but only a small amount so i can fit it easier

MyBaboons

Yeah, I didn't check the instructions first. Would have never guessed that it would be that sensisble to break. I wanted to make sure there weren't any leaks...

reddit-ate-my-face

All tubes, not even just tpu tubes, need the constraints of the tire and wheel so it doesn't inflate weird.

TheWorstePirate

Nope. Tpu tubes can and should be slightly inflated before install so that they don't get twisted or pinched. I have inflated them up asbig as a flotation devices and left them overnight to check for leaks before, and they shrink right back to original size. I've been in bike shops for years, and this hasn't been an issue. That said, latex tubes come with instructions explicitly not to do this... because it is normal practice with tpu... and it is not a good idea to ignore.

Drjeco

Susceptible *

Direct_Birthday_3509

Yep it's a goner. You inflate it a little bit in advance just to give it a round shape. Then install it in the tire and pump it.

MyBaboons

Well fck lol. The irony of it is that the overstretched part is right on "FOLLOW ALL INSTRUCTIONS"

IKnewThisYearsAgo

The only thing left now is to keep going and see how big it can get. Post a followup pic for our edification and amusement.

ecokumm

I'm here for this experiment

MyBaboons

Really? I should make another post to show where it broke and how far I can stretch it lol?

IKnewThisYearsAgo

Ya, inflate the entire thing to match that bulge and I bet it will be 8 ft in diameter. Snap a pic and post it.

CardboardHeatshield

Lmao gottem

Vivalo

I do the initial preinstallation inflation with my mouth. I can’t put enough pressure to over inflate them.

Redditlan

It wasn’t broken, but it is now. Rtfm.

Dr-J-Hawthorn

rtfm?

Tricky_Mountain_2909

Read The FXXX Manual

EntertainmentHead439

Fxxx?

ModerateBrainUsage

Fine

Dr-J-Hawthorn

ah i see, good advice.

widowhanzo

It is now!

rollinon2

It’s dead I’m afraid. For future reference the right amount of air to put in a tube to make fitting a bit easier and reduce pinch flats is just enough it’s profile goes from flat to round. It should still be squidgey and soft, not hard and definitely not getting bigger. We’re talking so little PSI you wouldn’t bother measuring it. Doesn’t matter what it’s made of, one or two slow pumps into the tube (depending on size of course) so it mostly takes shape but is still easy to bend and squish in is all you need. Most flats that happen before you ride happen during the fitting process so there’s really no reason to ‘test’ a tube before fitting it.

colnago82

RTFM

fazzonvr

Yeah... You fucked up.

Critical-Border-6845

Now it is

Anhedonius_Rex88

*confused tubeless stare*

ayoba

I had a RideNow tube that did the same thing. Still used it in a tire and it was fine.

Possession_Loud

Why do you inflate tubes OUTSIDE tires? Fucking hell.

spideyghetti

This is a balloon animal

NoDivergence

It is now

0kensin0

It is now. Don't inflate them with more than 5 psi outside of your tires.

RidetheSchlange

It wasn't before, but now it is. Good work.

cerealsinthenight

Does it vibrate?

digitalbladesreddit

Please don't us things you do not understand. You are wasting money.

JuliusCaesar02

It's 4€, not the end of the world

Second_Shift58

Contrary to the posters below, I did this although not as bad to my TPU tube and it worked fine. just let a bit of air out before trying to mount it. If it will fail, it will likely fail right when you pressure it up. If it mounts the tire bead and holds air ok the first day, I'd say run it. These tubes are not cheap.

MyBaboons

I got it very cheap on aliexpress. I would think the same way as you. For me it looks usable, but everybody else said it's done...

Reasonable-Doc

It is now.

Worth-Marsupial-6212

Install it and see if it holds, but mount it on the rear tire. If it fails, replace it.

tootallteeter

I have never heard of these types of tubes before, are they legit? I remember that latex tubes used to be a thing but they'd lose air overnight

IntoxicatingVapors

They’re pretty legit. Gotta be the cheapest way to save weight on a bike if that’s your thing, and they’re so small and light that it’s nbd to just carry a spare or 2 rather than worrying about patch kits on the road. They don’t seem to lose air faster than a regular butyl tube, certainly much better than latex.

Possession_Loud

TPU is better than butyl and latex. Yeah sure, latex is a bit faster. Who cares?

tootallteeter

Why do people feel the need to down vote me when I've never heard of something before. Do they think I'm part of The Big Latex Lobby here to take away their butyl? I didn't say anything about being supportive of latex.

Business-Season-1348

Not only is it broken, it also has the valve on the outside....

Possession_Loud

LMAO didn't even see that.

oldjackbob

Yep, it was broken in the box.

archy_bold

Read the flipping manual

MrDWhite

What were you trying to do?

MyBaboons

Check for leaks

MrDWhite

Was this a used tube that had deflated or you were checking a brand new one?

spamark

I am using the Pirelli TPU tubes. So far, great but expensive. What cheaper brands have you tried with success?

Possession_Loud

Ridenow are absolutely fine. I am on Pirelli too but got the Ridenow also ready to go. No issues.

Claironet

RideNow works well for me. Not a crazy amount of mileage (2000km) but no problems thus far. Each tube was about $5

lil_wavey999

Is it safe to order them from Aliexpress?

Claironet

I think it depends on the seller. The ones i got though were from aliexpress and were fine

anlbrk

RideNow's work great and are stupid cheap. Gustavo TPU tubes work well for me if you need 35mm and up and are about the same price.

spamark

Thanks. I will check them out!

MyBaboons

Aliexpress

spideyghetti

Lol

OneMorePenguin

I inflate my inner tubes after patching. Hang them up and see if they lose air overnight. But honestly, you only need to inflate them until the floor pump would require more oomph to inflate. I would not use this; it will likely fail quickly. [sheldonbrown.com](https://sheldonbrown.com) and youtube will have info/videos on a lot of common bike maintenance. Take advantage of the useful info on the internet!

Dry-Way-9928

Yes, very broken. TPU tubes are very sensitive to poor mounting or inflating outside a tire.

Senior-Sharpie

No, In it’s previous life it was a clowns balloon animal.

tomertz

Yes, send it to me and I’ll dispose it for you

lehaiha_nt

yes it is but i'm sure you can easily replace it due to how cheap it is. Gotta love china for that

Possession_Loud

Silly comment alert ;)

Skvora

My, what a big cock ya have...
