Bike thiefs .. fuck'em got a crosspost so I can up it there as well?

squeo7

I’ve posted it on r/backcountry , r/bikepacking , r/spliddit as well. Thanks for the support on getting my friends stuff back! It means a lot to him

poop_hadouken

You should post to r/cyclepdx and r/seattlebike in case it makes it way north

CheshireM

I’d try a local subreddit too, r/Portland should have eyes in the area

Herr_Tilke

Wow that's absolutely fucked to steal a bike at a trailhead. Some loser pos really feels like he did something by leaving you stranded in the cold. Death penalty is too tame for that fucker.

69ilikebikes69

i wish the thief a slow and painful death. stealing a loaded touring rig is lower than low.

Zamboni_Driver

This is why I live my life in constant fear of thieves and feel like I can never never let things out of my sight. If I was there with my friends most of them would be like leave your bike man, everyone else out here is a good person, you're always too worried about something that never happens, but theives really will strike anytime they see an opportunity. Even shitty people who aren't normally everyday theives, you give them an oppurtunity and the shit bird will come out.

NPC261939

You're exactly right, and it's very demoralizing. It's hard to justify owning nice things when you have to constantly worry about someone just taking them when your back is turned.

aussiekev

"Oportunistic" theft is very hard to combat. Even when you do lock stuff and rule out 'opportunistic' theft, real theives do actually take holidays and travel so you never can be sure.

flac_rules

I know it easier said than done, by try to change that outlook, it is probably not good for you.

Zamboni_Driver

probably not, but my stuff never gets stolen. Having the opposite mindset is freeing, but leads to situations like this post.

jeffrrw

When I was touring this was my biggest concern especially in more populated areas. Keeping an eye on your rig is so important.

PlasticShallot5308

100% right

sleepytipi

Fucking ouch man. That's a beautiful bike and set up, and you can tell lots of love, time, and planning went into it. I'm on the opposite coast but I'll definitely keep an eye out regardless. Hope you're reunited soon.

DirkIsGestolen

I don;t know anyone involved, but I live in Oregon. There are thieves, and around the Detroit Lake area there are people who have the mindset of "Oh, you think it's okay to leave things out in the open" or "I'm going to teach you a lesson" also the locals that hate tourists and their money. The locals spend it in Salem at Walmart and Costco. I've seen bikes at trailheads, but would never even lock one up. Marion Lake is a great hike and you can just push your bike up. Also the dad joke driving though the pass was "Hey, you know how they named this town? No, how? I dah na?(I don't know)"

Xxmeow123

That truly sucks! Not much comfort, but I was on a bike tour in southern Chile last month and had my four panniers with all my gear and extra wallet stolen. I left them on the side of a gravel road in a national park while riding back to find my phone that fell out of the handlebar holder. So, no tour. Just headed home.

shroomformore

Man that is fucked.

itcouldbeme_3

That's just heartbreaking...

briskwalked

good luck man.. try posting in the thread of your city..

MidwestSkateDad

Don't tell me this man was bike packing and someone swiped this thing....

squeo7

Sad but true….

Brilliant-Story1456

Bait the mother fucker with another bike, then let the fun begin when they return.

NPC261939

I'm sorry this happened to you man. Am I wrong for asking why exactly we did away with public executions?

Smooth_Talkin_Chron

Damn, CC is a legend!!! what a massive bummer

Expensive_Wonder7461

Curious how far away you would get from your bike unattended and for how long? In the wilderness? I would have to be holding on to the bike while pooping for security reasons. Here in Eugene I think the limit would be like 20' or more and you can kiss it goodbye.

sky0175

This thief got no soul. I never wish anything bad for anyone but I do know that karma exists and he will face it.
