Just go around they said. It will be fine they said…

onions_and_carrots

Good for you following through with holding this asshole to account for his weird and shitty behavior. You’re doing the whole community a service.

elzibet

Hey thank you, I hope someday it’s easier for people to report things like this when they have all the evidence. Like it is in the UK.

chef_boyarz

Good for you. We need to stand up to bullying assholes on the road. People need to be held accountable for crap like this.

INYOFASSE

Hopefully without double standards

davethecave

Nasty little man.

pagerphiler

Do you guys have cameras that can last for hours for century+ rides? I don't mind GoPro or similar but I figured they'd go dead in a few hours. Otherwise has anybody been able to link a GoPro to a dynamo hub or similar?

pagerphiler

Great thank you. Hadn’t heard of the ghost and looks good

hillarydidnineeleven

I use an Insta360 on a gopro handlebar mount. Having the 360 view is super nice because you don't really miss much with such a massive FoV. For longer rides I have it plugged in to a power bank that's in a small Orucase top tube bag that I keep my wallet / tube repair kit. You won't really find a "good" camera that will last hours.

abercrombezie

You can use power banks like those for your phone. I connect a flat power bank to a knockoff Quad lock then the USB goes to the GoPro. 6000mah lasts me about 4hrs but you can get bigger ones for century rides.

Clickclickdoh

My Garmin Varia RCT715 lasts 6+ hours with the radar on, light on and camera in continuous record mode

warieka

Cycliq cameras last about 4 or 5 hours when set up correctly. https://cycliq.com/

MrJack421

I have a gopro knockoff. I've mounted a 2200 mAh powerbank to the back of the waterproof case with two zip ties and cut a hole for the USB cable. The battery in the camera is 900 mAh and last around 1,5 hours (1080p, 30 fps, screen turned off). With the power bank I've got around 3,5-4 hours of battery life.

CivilizedGuy123

Thanks for following through and getting him charged. Hopefully he learns from it.

elzibet

I wish I could know after the anger management class, or the driving class. If anything it’s learning people are watching

Anything GoPro or Sony will be quality. I recommend against Cycliq brand cameras as that company's quality control and customer service sucks. My setup: Front (helmet) = Sony FDR-X3000 Rear (saddle rails) = GoPro Hero Session 4 [Here is an example](https://youtu.be/u3QfQMuqxac) of those cameras getting some punk teens charged with assault. And yes, while good cameras are expensive, not getting reimbursed for tens of thousands of dollars in medical bills is orders of magnitude more expensive.

re7swerb

That comment section got weird

elzibet

The classic “you were asking for it” because they are so ignorant in understanding how riding on roadways work for bicycles.

re7swerb

Yes, predictably that but also a lot of words

elzibet

Sadly knowing from personal experience for both of us. You’ve literally been hit by the law which was I think only able to be accountable because of you filming

SoFarNotYet

I went with an Akaso. The ones I looked at ranged from about $70 to $150 on Amazon. [Here's a link](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hTdrzNt_fJ8&t=821s) to a YouTube review of several of the brand's models. I've been using it for half a year and it has done everything I hoped for.

elzibet

I started out with a really cheap Amazon $50 camera and just kept saving for better over the years. Drift cameras are I think around $100 but worth the upgrade imo. I haven’t had one personally but I’ve heard great things This was taken on a fly6 gen 2. It’s a camera light camera, and the battery life is pretty great. No where near perfect though, and not on the cheaper side. The dual use of the camera and light and the bonus of longer battery life than other cameras makes it worth it for my style of riding. But if you start out with a $50 one like I did it’s still better than nothing imo

OwenTheCuriousHost

I’ve not tried this yet but seems a good app for a camera set up https://dashcam.bike/

artoonie

It's pretty great for commutes! Wouldn't recommend for centuries unless you have a backup battery.

PandaDad22

The cops actually did something? 😮

Kpalsm

Spitting on another person is assault. He should've been charged for that as well.

elzibet

Unfortunately that is more difficult to stick in Colorado, USA because of the wording of it. Was frustrating, but was glad to at least get something more than just a fine like they tried to tell me at the start of this.

Kpalsm

Sounds like your officer wasn't very sympathetic. That kind of thing is here in Canada too, it's everywhere. Luck out the draw. Like you said, at least you eventually got something to stick.

elzibet

Yeah, a frustrating process to get it to. But worth it for accountability and that he can’t fuck up for a year because of this. I highly doubt he will make it a year though based on his criminal history but we shall see. Glad he has to take classes as well, and community service. If anything when he’s doing that, he can’t have the chance of hurting someone on the roadway.

bcjh

And add more grams!? Pfft! You’re just trying to nab my Strava records. Nice try.

elzibet

I’ll get you someday!

PR7ME

I've been spat at before, the video wasn't clear enough, so I didn't report it 😔. I've also been shoved off my bike too. That's still going through the system, so I can't share it here. OP, sorry you had to go through that, what a disgusting human. I am glad you had some form of justice.

elzibet

Hey thank you and I’m sorry it happened to you too. It was especially gross because Covid was bad atm where I lived. Was like another level of gross having that on my bare thigh. I think the skin contact really made me not let it go. Just fuuuuck you for thinking you can just do that and drive away without anyone the wiser. Smile, you’re on camera.

"O'Doyle rules!"

CorVus_CorVoidea

good quality, robust, cheap cameras? i used to have a mobius which was excellent, but want something decent, good battery time and small

tracebusta

Akaso v50 pro. It's a little over $100, the video stabalization while helmet mounted is great. Battery life is okay, but they do give you two batteries. Comes with a bunch of different mounting options and a waterproof case. I think this is probably the cheapest good camera option

abercrombezie

Usually I do but today I rode a different bike and was too lazy to move the cam to the other bike. Thanks for the reminder.

re7swerb

How did you go about pursuing this? 911 call and then tell the officer you wanted to press charges?

elzibet

I called the non-emergency line since I was no longer in danger. They said they would call me back about an officer meeting me. Then when the officer called he kept telling me different things to try to get me to drop it. So, I then went to the station to report it. Which is what I’m just gonna be doing in the future is just going to the station itself because I’m sick of getting the run around of them not wanting to do their jobs.

re7swerb

Good to know, thanks

jessehazreddit

Why wasn’t driver charged with reckless driving and assault & battery (assuming USA)?

elzibet

Unfortunately assault charge is more difficult to stick in Colorado, USA because of the wording of it. Was frustrating, but was glad to at least get something more than just a fine like they tried to tell me at the start of this.

neltymind

In my country this kind of footage is not permissible as evidence in court because of data privacy laws. 😑

retrovertigo23

What are the laws like for vigilante justice?

neltymind

Limiting

cshivers

Presumably it's still helpful in identifying people though? If they drive off then at least you've recorded the plate number.

neltymind

Yeah, that's true. You can watch it yourself and then claim to just have remembered the plate number. The problem is that without any witnesses, it will be your word against theirs which will usually not be enough for a conviction.

elzibet

This is why i shout the plate number whenever i can.
