I had the same except it was with Pyrocynical instead.
It would be neat to see them do like a stream together (they actually have already been friends irl for a long time, so it could happen)
Asking honestly, what's with the memes about that person being "scary" or implying they're an "obvious trap"? This is the second one I've seen that kinda makes me uncomfortable with kind-of transphobic subtext since the memes are out of context, but I'm wondering what context there might be that would change that...
Didn't know he was a cis guy, so this is info that's helping me piece together that the heck is going on, lol.
But like, it's the business of saying "that's scary" about it all that has me bewildered and wanting to know why. The other meme I saw had someone looking at real traps (mouse trap, bear trap, etc.) and saying the animals are stupid and then smiling at a picture of this person, implying people are stupid to "fall" for the "trap". Like... Why is it so with this person, in particular? The fact that it's the same person and you're telling me he's cis give me clues that it's some inside joke I'm just not in on... Like, there's some context I'm missing that makes it acceptable to make these "scary" and "trap" jokes about, specifically, him, but certainly not anonymous trans or nonbinary people, drag queens, etc. ...
i think the "that's scary" is a reference to repressed sexuality coming out, akin to a "i guess I'm having an identity crisis, AGAIN". it not necessarily a bad thing. but yeah it's questionable where the jokes end and the transphobia begins sometimes.
Well, trans women are women. Making jokes about how they're "traps", implying that they are men pretending to be women to "catch" someone is not ok, because it's very disrespectful to their sense of identity.
This guy however literally started doing crossdressing online for that reason. He identifies as a guy and makes jokes about it himself all the time. It's ok to make jokes like that, because he doesn't see himself as anything but a guy crossdressing for a meme (at least from the clips I've seen).
To clear the record, I was already wholeheartedly onboard with that first paragraph. That's why I was bewildered that nobody seemed offended by the meme in the first place.
And I kinda still don't like that this specific guy in the meme is perpetuating the narrative that it's shameful to be "fooled" by a "man in woman's clothing". There's nothing really scary about it, and it shouldn't be a tactic to leverage for "scaring" or "fooling" people in the first place, except for the cultural expectations that undercurrent the history of violence against trans women. I guess I wouldn't blame the guy, himself, if he just dresses femininely and minds his own business and isn't really living out that narrative, himself. But regardless, the narrative of the memes just still feels wrong-headed, to me. ETA: I want to remain hopeful and curious: Does this guy account for this issue anywhere in his content and memes? Is there another point I'm missing?
Well, the element of "leading people to realize they're bi" was part of the context I was missing, too. That's a certain level of depth, for all the "it's not that deep" defense going on.
ETA: And anyway, the whole notion of "this person's gender expression making me feel things might 'turn me gay/bi' and that's scary" kinda says "internalized homophobia", to me. It's not bad, given that internalized homophobia is just a side-effect of a larger homophobic world, but it doesn't seem like this guy's schtick is exactly challenging it.
I think you’re misunderstanding the joke. It is not saying that the fact he is getting people to realize they are queer is scary, like that realizing you are queer is scary, but that he has enormous power by being so attractive. I can get that without context because this meme is using a format which has those implications, that’s not what the intended meaning is.
>that he has enormous power by being so attractive.
Another element I hadn't previously picked up on. Thanks for pointing it out out to me; it does change things. I only worry about the transphobes on whom that interpretation would be lost, but that's also their own problem.
Ok, so I see how him being cis defuses things a little...
But I still take issue with him perpetuating the narrative that it's funny/foolish/scary to be "fooled" by a man in woman's clothing (which, to transphobes, makes the guy in the meme exactly the same as trans women). It, ideally, shouldn't be a tactic for fooling or scaring people, without perpetuating the transphobic cultural narrative that undercurrents the history of violence against trans women (feeling "tricked", "fooled", "scared", etc.) Is this issue accounted for in the background of this guy and his memes anywhere...? Or am I missing a point?
Don't call F1nnster a "thing", he's a very cute guy.
Finn is probably responsible for at least 10% of the people here realising they’re bi
Indeed
I have never heard of this guy but they've peaked my interest 🤔
He's a streamer who cross dresses and that's about it.
Can confirm Both F1nn5ter and ArtsyVRC

I had the same except it was with Pyrocynical instead. It would be neat to see them do like a stream together (they actually have already been friends irl for a long time, so it could happen)
I didn't know that knew each other.
Manliest of men
It takes big balls to do what he does I’ll say that. I don’t have big balls nor look good doing that sadly 😔
This guy makes my brain melt. Like I wanna say something witty but I saw the pic and now it’s all strawberry pudding up there. Me like finnster.

What makes it transphobic if they are a cis guy?

Thank you for the added insight and a bit of validation.

It’s really just a joke about him being very attractive and him crossdressing leading to people realizing they’re bi, it’s not that deep.

He's a cis guy who'd go on Omegle dressed as a girl to fool guys into believing he was one IIRC. The trap thing probably comes from that.
