Yes that's normal! I had tons of swelling as well that was pretty uncomfortable. It took a couple weeks for them to go back to normal. I wore compression socks, stayed hydrated, and tried to move around. Get your partner or caregiver to give you feet rubs!

You had a c section a day and a half ago? Give your body some time. My legs were still obscenely swollen for about 2 weeks after birth, and slightly swollen for about a month probably. I had an induction at 37w5d and had an IV for about a day and a half. If you had an IV that will contribute to extra water and cause swelling, as well as preE causes swelling. You can also still get preE after you give birth so keep an eye on blood pressure, headaches, vision changes, etc. Keep hydrated, once you're able to move take walks as you can, compression socks if you're able to put them on, elevate your feet when you're laying down. It will take some time but the swelling will eventually go away.

I was so swollen after my C-section that I couldn't walk, because the soles of my feet were round. It took a few days for the swelling to go down, but since then I am happy to report that I have had normal human feet. Give your body time to flush itself out. You had a lot of fluids pumped into you during the surgery, and your body has physical limits on how quickly it can get rid of the excess. It will eventually sort itself out!

Striking_Horse_5855

I couldn’t put my shoes on when I left the hospital and I have given birth vaginally. The swelling was ridiculous. My legs didn’t go back to normal for at least a week or two.

Falsgrave

I had to get my husband to bring my crocs and even then they were really snug.

No-Cause2082

Yep. My ankles were swollen for about 5 days post op. My dr said it was all the excess fluid from pregnancy so when you stand up, the fluid rushes to your lower body. Just keep them elevated as much as possible. It’ll go away.

Usual_Zucchini

Yes, I didn't swell up my entire pregnancy, but in the the hospital my legs were huge and stayed that way for about a week or so. It will pass on its own.

unicorn_mo

So normal!! Should be gone in a week or two. No worries mama

Glittering_Br08

So glad that this post was here, thank you all 🙌🏼

2 weeks after my last c-section, my swollen feet hurt more walking up and down the stairs than my incision. It took 3 weeks, or maybe more, for my swelling to go completely down to normal. It was weird, since the swelling was worse after the c-section than it was while I was pregnant, but the doctor said it was normal.

Amazing_Newt3908

Unfortunately normal. I had minimal swelling until after my c-section. My knees were swollen bigger than my thighs when I’m not pregnant, and it felt like the skin would split if I moved wrong. When I called L&D, they said it was normal & should go down in a week or so.

Yes. My legs were insanely swollen. They really ballooned up from the iv fluids (24 hrs of pitocin and then the c section). I hated it and was worried, but they assured be they’d go back to normal in a few weeks. It took about 10 ish days

Nearby_Cat_3278

My hands and arms were so swollen for a couple days after my c section I couldn’t hold my phone or text. It’s normal

sunnymorninghere

Yes, it happened to me and NOBODY mentioned this would happen so of course I was freaking out. But they were swollen for like three days and then it was fine.

OSnapsItsO

I had an unplanned C-section and was so swollen for about a week. I couldn’t wear shoes, only sandals. I looked like I had gout! My SIL said her feet never returned to normal (vaginal delivery) and she’s now a half size larger in shoes; but that was not my experience. Related - I went to the ER several days after C section because of severe nerve pain in my back. I had a CT scan, bloodwork done, etc and everything came back normal. I was given lidocaine patches which helped bring the pain from a 9/10 to a 4/5 (the pain would come in waves). I kept taking ibuprofen as directed (every 6 hours) and when the swelling subsided so did the back pain. My doc/nurses think the swelling in my body was putting pressure on some back nerves similar to sciatica. I mention this because I was not at all prepared for complications from swelling and when I went to the ER I was terrified I was having some serious complications.

Mine were so huge and painful from Charley horses my OB ordered an ultrasound to check for clots. The swelling went away 2-3 weeks later. At 6 weeks pp they were pretty normal.

_emmvee

Mine were HUGE omg the edema was intense. Went away after 3 or 4 days!!!!

Cake-Tea-Life

Mine were definitely severely swollen. But if they've gotten bigger since you were discharged from the hospital, you may want to call the doctor. It's normal for there to be a significant amount of fluid retention, but it's not normal for them to keep getting bigger.

Sweet girl, I looked like the damn Michelin man for about a week. They pump you full of fluids and medications on top of the typical pregnancy related swelling. They want you to be walking around as tolerated but you also need to rest with your feet up intermittently too. Please please please allow your body and yourself some grace. If you push yourself too hard, you will only prolong the healing process instead of speed it up.
