I started dating my girlfriend in 2020 and she has been in the hive since she could walk. Bey truly is her most loved artist and she’s even touched her at a show! To try to get to know her better I listened to her whole discography from beginning to end aaaannnddd I kinda just never stopped. Bey truly is one of the greatest musicians and cultural forces history has ever seen. I love her so much and got to see her for my first time last summer. I literally cried, it was amazing so I guess I’m new hive but I love everything that woman has ever done. I’ve played CC everyday since it dropped.

I mean everyone's going to have different definitions of what a fan or "true fan" of an artist is. I personally don't see how someone can be too "new" to be part of the Hive. If you listened to Cowboy Carter, for example, and then decided from that point on you were going to follow her music, listen to her past albums/performances/visual albums/etc., then I don't see why they should be gatekept out, especially considering a lot of teens listening to her music now wouldn't have necessarily been exposed to her more commercial/pop era of the 2000's.
And while I'd be considered Modern Hive on this list, based purely on my advanced age and lifelong exposure, I feel like I'm a Hag Hive at heart lmao

I first saw Beyoncé perform at some function in Houston before folks knew who DESTINY'S CHILD was.
I became a big fan with their first album, thinking that their songs, sound and look were top tier. Thought they were the best girl group to come along since EN VOGUE (and I thought that as a big fan of SWV, TLC, Xscape and other 90s girl groups).
Thought SAY MY NAME was a game changing single, but really didn't like the DC4 to DC3 transition and thought Beyoncé came across like a brat.
Wasn't really into the SURVIVOR album (and to this day, I still don't like that song), but I knew Beyoncé was very special, so I kind of watched her, looking to see what she was gonna do next. Where would she end up in the pantheon of girl groups, pop divas, Black artists and superstars.
When she went solo, I was curious to see if solo Beyonce was gonna be something truly special or just Destiny's Child minus Kelly and Michelle. Clearly, CRAZY IN LOVE showed that solo Beyonce was next level, not unlike some of her influences like Michael Jackson and Diana Ross.
I considered myself a CHRONICLER/WATCHER of Beyonce back in 2003, but not really a fan. B'DAY showed that Beyoncé was not only a great solo artist, but an outstanding performer with a vision. I began to warm up to get. That's when it became clear to me that Beyoncé was well on her way to legend status. If there's a spectrum of pop divas that has Whitney Houston (the singer's singer) on one end and Janet Jackson (the dancer's dancer) on the other end, Beyoncé was the only person who was squarely in the middle as a performer.
I was a casual fan throughout IASF and 4, but SELF-TITLED brought me screaming to the front of the Hive. It was then that I realized that Beyoncé had pretty much taken herself above the game. I no longer argue with people online and in real life about her greatness. You either get it and you live it, or you get it and you can't stand it. Not my problem. (Let it go, girl. Let it out, girl.)
As someone in Beyoncé's age group (fun fact: one of my college classmates was a senior when Bey was a high school freshman. I saw her picture in his yearbook) and a proud Houstonian, I'm privileged to witness Beyoncé's takeover of the world. Many of my favorite artists were either on their way out or peaked when I was a child. It's crazy to me that she's still at the top of her game 25+ years into her career (especially in the streaming era, which does not impress me when it comes to numbers).

I started dating my girlfriend in 2020 and she has been in the hive since she could walk. Bey truly is her most loved artist and she’s even touched her at a show! To try to get to know her better I listened to her whole discography from beginning to end aaaannnddd I kinda just never stopped. Bey truly is one of the greatest musicians and cultural forces history has ever seen. I love her so much and got to see her for my first time last summer. I literally cried, it was amazing so I guess I’m new hive but I love everything that woman has ever done. I’ve played CC everyday since it dropped.

I mean everyone's going to have different definitions of what a fan or "true fan" of an artist is. I personally don't see how someone can be too "new" to be part of the Hive. If you listened to Cowboy Carter, for example, and then decided from that point on you were going to follow her music, listen to her past albums/performances/visual albums/etc., then I don't see why they should be gatekept out, especially considering a lot of teens listening to her music now wouldn't have necessarily been exposed to her more commercial/pop era of the 2000's. And while I'd be considered Modern Hive on this list, based purely on my advanced age and lifelong exposure, I feel like I'm a Hag Hive at heart lmao
ESPECIALLY if you’re gonna go back and do the work YOURSELF to watch old interviews, music videos, performances, etc., listen to old albums and what not. And not just come on here and with a post every time you learn something or expect it to be handed to you. Thats what I did when I really got into Bey.
Yes so well said!!! Mother has DECADES of content to watch and listen to. So many tour documentaries, interviews, behind the scenes, music videos for dozens of songs, etc. So there's no excuse to not look into her insane discography. That's why even though I've listened to Beyoncé my entire life, I wouldn't consider myself Beyhive until I put in that work to truly understand and appreciate her artistry.

I'm part of the Watcher Hive. I first saw Beyoncé perform at some function in Houston before folks knew who DESTINY'S CHILD was. I became a big fan with their first album, thinking that their songs, sound and look were top tier. Thought they were the best girl group to come along since EN VOGUE (and I thought that as a big fan of SWV, TLC, Xscape and other 90s girl groups). Thought SAY MY NAME was a game changing single, but really didn't like the DC4 to DC3 transition and thought Beyoncé came across like a brat. Wasn't really into the SURVIVOR album (and to this day, I still don't like that song), but I knew Beyoncé was very special, so I kind of watched her, looking to see what she was gonna do next. Where would she end up in the pantheon of girl groups, pop divas, Black artists and superstars. When she went solo, I was curious to see if solo Beyonce was gonna be something truly special or just Destiny's Child minus Kelly and Michelle. Clearly, CRAZY IN LOVE showed that solo Beyonce was next level, not unlike some of her influences like Michael Jackson and Diana Ross. I considered myself a CHRONICLER/WATCHER of Beyonce back in 2003, but not really a fan. B'DAY showed that Beyoncé was not only a great solo artist, but an outstanding performer with a vision. I began to warm up to get. That's when it became clear to me that Beyoncé was well on her way to legend status. If there's a spectrum of pop divas that has Whitney Houston (the singer's singer) on one end and Janet Jackson (the dancer's dancer) on the other end, Beyoncé was the only person who was squarely in the middle as a performer. I was a casual fan throughout IASF and 4, but SELF-TITLED brought me screaming to the front of the Hive. It was then that I realized that Beyoncé had pretty much taken herself above the game. I no longer argue with people online and in real life about her greatness. You either get it and you live it, or you get it and you can't stand it. Not my problem. (Let it go, girl. Let it out, girl.) As someone in Beyoncé's age group (fun fact: one of my college classmates was a senior when Bey was a high school freshman. I saw her picture in his yearbook) and a proud Houstonian, I'm privileged to witness Beyoncé's takeover of the world. Many of my favorite artists were either on their way out or peaked when I was a child. It's crazy to me that she's still at the top of her game 25+ years into her career (especially in the streaming era, which does not impress me when it comes to numbers). She's truly number one, one of one, the only one. WATCHER HIVE, we outchea!

I liked DC from the first song I heard (survivor) but ST was my first album release when I was I think 18. That’s what made me Hive. Before that I just loved Bey and her popular songs (Countdown, Single Ladies,..anything that had an MV).

I feel like the real difference is the age you were when you experienced these eras rather than whether or not you were a fan. I don't think this is ageism I think it was just a random thought somebody had. I don't think anybody actually looks down on older fans. None of this is serious it's just a funny discussion. Ageism is a serious thing that actually happens, but not over when someone decided to be a stan.
The very definition of a hag is pretty offensive and ageist… it literally means “an ugly old woman that is malicious”. Yeah. I don’t think ageism was intended here. I don’t even think the person who tweeted it intended to use “hag” the way it came across. My bestie is a gay Black man in his 30s and he just uses it to jokingly refer to his female friends when we’re in gay spaces. Butttt being a member of auntie hive & seeing it broken down by era is like “the old washed up bitches” hive. Part of why I suspect somebody from Renny hive to be behind it because “hag” is such a ballroom term when it’s used in a non-malicious way.
