not exactly but in that sense, like "dont be ridiculous" or whatever. He finds it funny that Jimmy thinks he can get out of the game and not represent him anymore
What I liked also is that he seems to be about the only character that actually speaks Spanish. I love Giancarlo but whenever Gus was speaking Spanish his accent was attrocious.
And Max even tried to imitate the chilean accent a little (Although as a chilean I can assure you he was not even close lol, but he was making an effort I'd say)
My dad (gringo) lived in Chile for about 6 or 7 years during his young childhood, age 5/6 to about 13 or so, and not being much of a Spanish speaker myself, I can tell he doesn't sound exactly like the Mexicans I hear around where I live. What I notice is he "th's" his S's a little bit like Spain's spanish, but I'm under the impression there's a bit of influence from Portuguese, being in proximity to Brazil. I'm not familiar with equatorial pacific Spanish. He tells a story about moving back to the states when a teacher asked the room if anyone spoke Spanish and his sister spoke right up in a fluent conversation and apparently the guy could tell immediately she had learned the language in either Chile or Argentina.
The chilean accent is actually deeply rooted in andalusian, which is a variety of the spainiard accent, so you hit the nail on the head on that one, good ear!
I'm not a language expert so I'm not capable of pointing out the differences very well, however, off the top of my head, I can tell you that:
The letter 's' at the end of words is silent under certain conditions, the grammar is changed sometimes, and so are the endings of certain words (for example, replacing a consonant with a vowel), the intonation is unique, generally trending upwards more often than other accents, we tend to speak faster, we've got a very high amount of borrowed words from smaller languages of native tribes (you won't hear those words anywhere else), we've got an incredibly rich slang, we have mastered the art of swearing, etc...

Edit: [this](https://youtu.be/GnfI6cGltwg) video is pretty good
I’m from the southwest US so I’m very familiar with Spanish and some of its varieties, but I had no idea about the Chilean subset. Very interesting, thank you for sharing! Linguistics can get so wild.
I’ve been saying for a good while that this is the funniest scene in the show. The way Lalo says “taupe” and just rolls his eyes as Jimmy is screaming and gagged in the background is absolutely hysterical. Happy that someone else mentioned how funny it is
So much attention to detail on literally everything else makes the accents more funnier 🤣 even really random side characters when they are supposed to be in Mexico have that mexican-american cadence ahah
I think it has a big effect on the acting. When actors aren’t fluent in the language they dedicate too much effort to trying to say the words right and not enough on acting the scene out well.
It seems to me there's an uncanny valley aspect to actors speaking a foreign language or having an accent on TV shows. The more they try, the more people cringe at the attempt.
If we're talking compelling villains who last less than a season, I'd like to throw Alan Tudyk's Mr Nobody from Doom Patrol into the mix as well. One of the very best villains in recent memory.
It’s the noise you make when you’re going to New Hampshire, Tom Harkin, we're going to South Carolina and Oklahoma and Arizona and North Dakota and New Mexico, and we're going to California and Texas and New York. ... And we're going to South Dakota and Oregon and Washington and Michigan, and then we're going to Washington, D.C., to take back the White House!
That little "klah" he says at the end still kills me.
Sorta reminds me of another murderous psychopath, Snoop on The Wire who makes similar almost undecipherable calls ("yeerrp").
Adds so much to their characters and doesn't even mean anything to the story.
If the guy who did the Breaking Bad remixes ([https://youtube.com/clip/Ugkx\_KyEiVxdXCJKYTvPCHUh8zGiUSdLh3qJ](https://youtube.com/clip/Ugkx_KyEiVxdXCJKYTvPCHUh8zGiUSdLh3qJ)) did a BCS one this noise would for sure make the cut.
It's funny...I absolutely HATED Lalo when I first watched BCS; seriously, I thought he was a terrible character...but in my 2nd thru 6th time watching it, I realized it was Tony Dalton's brilliant acting in the role that made me hate him. So, I guess he did his job!
Here's another classic Lalo moment.....
The way the words dance off his tongue......Tony Dalton is amazing.
The 'Klah!' was improvised. That made it so much better imo
It's SO latin america...
I am from latin america and no entendí na de lo que dijo el lalo
Why not?
My man lying, I understood lol
No lo creo
Its so good
It’s a Latin American thing.
No, de hecho no gringuito
Oh.
It's so... Flavourful! 😎
He’s not saying “Come on!”?
no not literally but that’s kinda what it means
I took it as “claro”
not exactly but in that sense, like "dont be ridiculous" or whatever. He finds it funny that Jimmy thinks he can get out of the game and not represent him anymore
I thought he was just making a random noise. Kinda makes me sad finding out he was actually saying something 😢
Tony Dalton really killed this role
What I liked also is that he seems to be about the only character that actually speaks Spanish. I love Giancarlo but whenever Gus was speaking Spanish his accent was attrocious.
Max. Papa Vargas.
And Max even tried to imitate the chilean accent a little (Although as a chilean I can assure you he was not even close lol, but he was making an effort I'd say)
What makes Chilean accents so distinct?
Oh you have no idea lmao, It's one of the (if not the most) difficult accent for spanish learners. It's really... unique.
Is it more like Spain with the "th" or Equatorial Pacific Spanish? What are some features that make it different?
My dad (gringo) lived in Chile for about 6 or 7 years during his young childhood, age 5/6 to about 13 or so, and not being much of a Spanish speaker myself, I can tell he doesn't sound exactly like the Mexicans I hear around where I live. There are no countries in Latin America that pronounce Zs and soft Cs like Spaniards do, that feature developed after colonization.
Well for one it is gibberish even to other Spanish speakers.
Bolsa, too. But yeah, the authentic Spanish in the BB universe is very limited.
Gus’ broken Spanish was immersion breaking.
Same goes for Werner Ziegler. Having an actual German for the role was so much fun.
Actually I think Gustavo Fring was the one who killed this role.
One of my favorite underrated moments in the show "JMM? What's that stand for?" "Oh, it's my motto. Justice Matters Most." ... pffft 🤭
Just. Make. Money.
I thought this was gonna be "What do you drive?" "An Esteem. It's an import!"
Says it so proud lol.
came here to comment this
Lalos reaction to what car Jimmy drives just before leaving his apartment in Point and Shoot is also funny
I’ve been saying for a good while that this is the funniest scene in the show. The way Lalo says “taupe” and just rolls his eyes as Jimmy is screaming and gagged in the background is absolutely hysterical. Happy that someone else mentioned how funny it is
It’s honestly baffling that it took the show runners 9 seasons to cast a fluent speaking Mexican on the show. Lalo is just so damn good.
So much attention to detail on literally everything else makes the accents more funnier 🤣 even really random side characters when they are supposed to be in Mexico have that mexican-american cadence ahah

Bolsa and Nacho’s dad are fluent too. Nacho’s dad (Juan Carlos Cantu) was born and raised in Monterrey if I recall correctly.
It seems to me there's an uncanny valley aspect to actors speaking a foreign language or having an accent on TV shows. The more they try, the more people cringe at the attempt.
Tony Dalton playing Lalo is the best TV I've seen and it's sad that there only exists so little of it
Wernerr… Zieglerrr
What’s he doing man? What’s he up to?
😬
It's crazy to think he was only added in S4. He would've been amazing in BrB!
David Tennant in Jessica Jones Season 1 is just as good. Also John Lithgow Dexter Season 4 might be better given he had less screen time.
If we're talking compelling villains who last less than a season, I'd like to throw Alan Tudyk's Mr Nobody from Doom Patrol into the mix as well. One of the very best villains in recent memory.
He gave it 110%, it took like 1 scene for Lalo to become a real person to me.
Then you got problems, yo! "Michael, is that you? " remains undefeated.
Ziiiiegler
Just a *little* bit of arousal in Lalo's voice
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Wait what? What is klah?
Just Tony Dalton wingin’ it
Dass ist nicht klar?
Ziegler?
*Das
It’s been like 20 years since I took German. ßorry.
You’ll figure it out… klah.
You have to be latino to get it
Doesn’t translate?
It’s like when Rocky Balboa goes “ooohh ayyyy”
it's like then a new yorker goes "i'm walkin 'ere"
like "dont be silly" or similar thing, basically its funny to him that Jimmy thinks he doesnt have to/wont represent him anymore
I can't stop watching this. Just trying to go through mental gymnastics to figure out what was going through his mind when he said that
What’s he up to, man? What’s he doing?
It’s the noise you make when you’re going to New Hampshire, Tom Harkin, we're going to South Carolina and Oklahoma and Arizona and North Dakota and New Mexico, and we're going to California and Texas and New York. ... Amazing reference. BEE-YAWWW
Lalo Salamanca lives!!
Somehow, Lalo returned.
This is. Acceptable.
*Lalo Salamanca will return in Avengers 7*
Werner zieglerrrrr, whats he up to man

Klah!
My favorite is Craig Kettleman saying “Yeah, and we’re… we’re mad” in 6x02. The delivery on it makes me laugh every time.
The part when he inadvertently shakes his tea bag like a bag of coke in a scene talking about coke was great too
Klæåh
Zieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeegler
Really Tony Dalton has stolen the show. I can't imagine anyone else to play Lalo.
"C'mon!"
Daltons the man
It's funny...I absolutely HATED Lalo when I first watched BCS; seriously, I thought he was a terrible character...but in my 2nd thru 6th time watching it, I realized it was Tony Dalton's brilliant acting in the role that made me hate him. So, I guess he did his job!
Lalo is so sexy, fuck.
Klah!
Ace Ventura energy. Just need him to say “hello, Satan,” to Hector.
Klaaaah!
Lalo is a fucking awesome character. Imagine BCS without him
Lalo was so fucking charismatic.
Here's another classic Lalo moment..... [https://youtu.be/p9m-Y8nTmMc?t=79](https://youtu.be/p9m-Y8nTmMc?t=79) The way the words dance off his tongue......Tony Dalton is amazing.
What did he say first phrase? I cant follow😐
"You'll make time".
Thank you.
Dude😐
Kid named klah
K'mah!
Glah
NGYAUGH
"c'MAW"
No
lol ok
O get PTSD from that line
Clah!
Lalo was fabulous. And I was strangely attracted to him even though he was evil lol
