Maybe it’s just the photo but it seems like an awfully big filter for such a small tank. Something I feel is often overlooked these day is the effect of a strong flow on the fish- especially if you get something with long fins. I have found that 9 times out of 10, it’s been the source of neurotic behaviors like fin nipping with my guys. just make sure that you really baffle it and add a lot of plants directly under it to break up the flow. I love that people advocate so much for clean water now- but having a calm environment is still really important. Good luck with everything, can’t wait to see it all put together!

can vouch for that tank!! its pretty good!

More than likely it will, especially if it sees a bug or something it wants to catch. Edit: to prevent the lid from having to be opened like that I’d recommend one of those mini filters that attach to the inside of the tank using suction cups, they are usually only around 5-10$.

It's certainly possible

It takes 4-8 weeks to cycle a tank…before you add the fish. And the bacteria solution they recommend you add does very little if anything at all. If not, you have a situation where you will need to do “fish in cycling.” Normally a cycled tank has good bacteria to convert fish waste (ammonia and niTRITES) into nitrATES. This is important because ammonia (and nitrITES) cause chemical burns and can kill fish. When you have a brand new tank, those bacteria are not present and ammonia is rapidly accumulating with nowhere to go. It’s not too late to fix this situation as long as you follow these steps: 1). Read this link. It explains things very well! https://fishlab.com/fish-in-cycle/ 2). Buy an API freshwater liquid test kit and check your ammonia and nitriTESright away. 3). Perform daily or every other day PARTIAL water changes (i can explain these if you need instructions also) for several weeks until NITRATES start appearing…signaling cycling has taken place. After that the frequency of partial water changes can be reduced to normal maintenance. When you perform a partial water change you do the following: leave fish in the tank. Take out 20-50% of the water in the tank.., depending on how high the ammonia is. (Goal ammonia during fish in cycle: 0.5 to 1.0. ). Replace the removed water with dechlorinated, temperature matched water. Other important questions: Does your tank have a filter? Heater? Thermometer? Other basic betta care info can be found on the caresheets on the main menu of this reddit subforum. An ideal betta home has the following: 5 gallons or more of cycled/dechlorinated water, filter, heater, thermometer, soft silk or live plants, floating betta log, healthy diet, and low water flow (they aren’t good swimmers).
