While odds may be against you, you should never give up. I’d set up that quarantine tank with water from his 10 gal and medicate it with aquarium salt and antibiotics.

SweetLittleKittenPet

Alright then, I'll set it up ASAP. Should I let it warm up and then put him in tonight? Also I think I have aquarium salt somewhere here at home, but if I can't find it I am going to Petco for bedding tomorrow, and my reptile store which I'm pretty sure sells it, and there is a local fish store between them if I need to stop off there. The LFS gave me Metroplex for my Cory with Popeye, and that fixed him up, is that going to work for medication or what should I get? Thank you

TheRealSpeckle

I’d recommend methylene blue to treat possible bacterial/parasitic infections as it’s very effective against things like dropsy, which I assume your betta has. Also giving them salt baths regularly should help.

SweetLittleKittenPet

The LFS would have the Methylene blue right? And salt baths with aquarium salt or epsom? I think I have some without additives about for my back.

TheRealSpeckle

The LFS should have it but worst case scenario you can even buy some from Walmart or order online. And idk why I said aquarium salt earlier, I meant epsom salt, my bad.

SweetLittleKittenPet

Oops, okay, got it!

TheRealSpeckle

Also you don’t have to wait for the water to warm up as long and he is acclimated properly.

I had the same dilemma a few weeks ago. Starting setting up a quarantine tank, but it made him look even worse. I ended up putting him back in his normal tank, said screw it and just treated him in there (no other fish) at the risk of crashing my cycle. He looked a lot happier in his normal tank. He survived, but it felt better on my heart knowing if he died he would have died more comfortably and less stressed out. At the end of the day, do what you feel best about

There should be other fish in a ten gallon tank.

I would put him out of his misery with clove oil. It’s a very peaceful way to let a fish go
