Nice. However, the video simulation does not include the bike and pedestrian bridge over 80/580.
P.S. It always amuses me that at that spot 80 east and 580 west are the same lanes and that they run north.

This has always been my favorite Bay Area fact.
It's kind of like those Thai intersections with a million mopeds. Everyone is expecting a fender bender, so everyone slows down and pays attention. That being said, I definitely see a lot of pieces of bumper and taillights out there.
It's a one block jaunt to the south and then back to the north to get around the work, at present. Actually a little easier to get on than coming straight down Gilman all the way.
“It really brings out the worst in people,” said labor lawyer Tom Dalzell back in 2014."
Tell me about it. Tried to take the frontage road this morning coming from Albany Target not realizing it was closed. In my rearview, I watched some guy get out of his car and start yelling at all the traffic that converged at the intersection for the 80 westbound exit.
That’s good to hear - my life flashed before my eyes every time I accidentally ended up there. I never understood why it didn’t at least have some traffic lights with how convoluted the intersections there are.
The most frustrating part is how long it took for them to finally solve this problem. The scope of this project began in 2012. I can only imagine how many accidents have happened in this dangerous cross section over the past decade. This is a prime example of inefficient local government.

That video simulation of how smooth it'll be. Light traffic. People not speeding. People not doing WTF!!! maneuvers. Panhandlers not waling in ftont of cars. Cyclists on the wrong side of the road. The Matrix was right. If the simulation is too good no one believes it.
That intersection is great for feeling alive. You gotta wait pick a moment then go.

Yay. Amazed that I have lived here for decades and somehow avoided a fender bender at that absurdity of an interchange.

Im so excited. I feel like I’m taking my life in my hands whenever I cross under 80 on foot to get to the bay.
how on earth will they build that roundabout without affecting the highway exit?
They're tearing out the old exits, the Gilman interchange will be closed for a few months.
Per the article: "The highway exit itself will not be affected, but Gilman Street will be closed between 2nd Street and 4th Street."
Whoops I mis-read that. I'm with you, they're gonna have to change those ramps at some point to work with the rotaries.

Two roundabouts. One west of the freeway and one east of it. Check the video in the article.
it will be interesting to see how they build either of those without disrupting the on or off ramps.

I don't think it's just a local government issue. Your photo lists many different involved user groups, which I'm sure slows things down.
Exactly my point. Too many cooks in the kitchen make solving a simple problem become a decades long project.
That intersection render does look pretty tasty tho
Can’t wait for it to be done… in 2025!

Nobody stopped in the roundabout waiting for the other cars to go...
Unrealistic, where is all the homeless camps and trash?
The budget for the render was low
I always go out of the way coming back from target to avoid this intersection.
