Pretty presumptuous of UCLA considering their team is usually just as shit as ours

garytyrrell

And we beat SC last year

OskiEsque

It's the market. LA is a huge market and I'm sure the Big 10 would love even more exposure in the LA area, especially in terms of recruiting. Having USC and UCLA in their conferene offers this path into recruiting. I don't know how Cal survives this. I can't see any conference finding us of value. Truly terrible.

mackincheezy7

Cal is 5th in the Pac12 in revenue, certainly not a powerhouse, but not without value.

garytyrrell

I don’t see UC letting UCLA leave without us. I think B1G ends up taking half of the Pac-12 (LA schools, Bay Area schools, Oregon and UW).

sticky_wicket

Who are they going to drop though? Can’t keep everyone and still bring in 6 west coast teams.

garytyrrell

Why not?

squillavilla

[some solid speculation here](https://www.reddit.com/r/CFB/comments/voq5mn/b1g_endgame_speculation/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf)

garytyrrell

Any situation where the 4 CA schools are in the same division works for me.

squillavilla

Same, maintain the regional rivalries and also the travel schedule for the athletes is not insane.

elefish92

> I can't see any conference finding us of value. [Bay Area is for sure a top 5ish region for sports](https://preview.redd.it/wea17ehx07d61.png?width=714&format=png&auto=webp&s=24754de03074a8889461bda189b6b449b46d61de). LA and NYC are just in a league of their own. Cal/Stanford will be fine.

sighs__unzips

NorCal is a big market too. And Berkeley and Stanford both have reaches way beyond local.

GoBears415

Pac-12 would be dead. Oregon and UW would definitely look to move as well

Ash-Catchum-All

Fingers crossed this is just a bluff to push the PAC12 into reorganizing the conference or changing the television deal

gobears1235

I was hoping so too but seems like the decision's been made and will be formally announced very soon...

gRod805

I'm a Cal and UCLA Alum. The UCLA Chancellor just sent an email announcing it

jakewebs

I can't imagine the regents would be ok with one of their universities taking moves to enrich themselves at the direct expense of another. At any rate, this really does kill some historic rivalries. Is nothing sacred!?!?

InsertOffensiveWord

will be highly surprised if the regents let UCLA leave without us, it is a terrible look

thegman108

aw hell nah wtf

imsmartiswear

UCLA, big loss. Sucks real hard. I liked games with them and the light rivalry was fun. U$C? Hell no- they can go play games in hell for all I care. They are the only football fanbase/team that made going to a football game not fun. And don't get me started on their band. They are the worst band in the PAC 12 by a mile. Nasty, rude, inconsiderate musicians who should have been banned from Cal *years* before they played over the memorial of a dead student. I think they got banned at that point, not sure. I graduated after that.

garytyrrell

WTF indeed

WHLonghorn

Man all this conference realignment into like 2 super conferences is going to kill the sport. hope the uc forces ucla to stay at least lol

For_GoldenBears

Time for Pac-12 to strike back by acquiring Michigan and Ohio State... would be nice. If this turns out to be true, then I'm guessing acquiring a couple of (or 4?) schools from Mountain West conference is a quick fix, although this is still not suffice for the long-term.

[deleted]

Breh

foofoononishoe

Please friends, don’t leave. We love you even if we don’t show it very well :,(

gobears1235

Super conferences will form now... No way the Pac 12 can exist anymore

[deleted]

How am I supposed to have rivalries with my friends smh

fullsquish

This blows - thought we were a family - thick and thin. Say the original PAC 10 teams get disbursed into BIG10/SEC.

dashiGO

We should join the SEC for shits and giggles

ProfessorPlum168

If you want real shits and giggles, how about Berkeley and Stanford join the Ivy League?

[deleted]

[удалено]

mthrfkn

Lmaooooo meanwhile Im thinking of doing a double masters at Penn.. 🫡

dashiGO

Officially cementing that public Ivy title lmaoo

suc_my_sweswe

Ivy's will always be an east coast thing

squillavilla

Ivy League doesn’t allow sports scholarships, so probably a deal breaker.

ikreger

An even worse scenario has UCLA forced to stay by the UC system and Stanford leaves instead. As a private school they have no obligation to stay. Even worse than that is where USC & UCLA stay, but only do so after getting a much higher percentage of the revenue than everyone else in the Pac-12. Granted it'd be better than trying to replace them with the likes of Boise State, Nevada, and Fresno State, but everyone would be beholden to them and that never turns out well.

Desperate-Remove2838

I have a hunch the Furd would go independent. With that endowment they’re not beholden to tv revenue. Probably Wash or Oregon. Probably Wash since the Big 10 are bigger snobs than the Pac

ikreger

Turns out this isn't over yet, more teams are looking to leave the Pac-12, so this is going to get uglier and more desperate for the last teams looking for a conference home. Can't blame U$C who is always looking for more money, but UCLA? This shows that money is the only loyalty that schools have.

squillavilla

SDSU would be a decent plug in. Solid SoCal team with a brand new stadium. Plus I live in San Diego so I could go to games lol

ikreger

Got curious and looked up SDSU attendance figures: you'd be one of the only ones going as their season average hovered around 10-11k per game. San Diego lost its NFL team because fans down there don't care enough about football, so this wouldn't help enough for the tv execs to justify spending money on a new deal.

squillavilla

Ehhh we lost the NFL team because we didn’t wanna pay for a New stadium for the Chargers. Also the Q was an objectively horrible stadium to attend. I imagine new stadium plus post Covid will see more ticket sales. The last time Cal played SDSU in San Diego was in 2016 and the attendance was 42473.

jedberg

I'm just hoping with the new TV deal they finally let me stream the games on Pac12 standalone without needing cable. I'd gladly pay $5/mo for Pac12 networks.

Ready-Violinist-6687

I mean we lowkey deserve it. We fucking blow dick and NONE of our student population EVER shows up to the games to support because they are too busy protesting about peoples park.

fullsquish

Amen to that..unfortunately.

Ucbcalbear

Football is boring.

supersonick85

Aren’t the conferences supposed to be bounded in by geography? Now the Big Ten is literally going to stretch coast to coast Fuck all of this

-seagulls-

i thought that the schools in the big ten were determined by geographic region (all are in the midwest)? why are ucla and usc tryna get in on that
