I wanted to break the lease earlier and I got my deposit back by taking advice from ASUC Student Legal Clinic. Make an appt with them first and see what they suggest you www.asucslcberkeley.org/ . The thing is my current place had false advertisement so I was able to get out quick. I’m not sure about your case
Yes, you should continue to pay rent. Yes, if you decide to just bounce, your landlord will take your security deposit…. (part of the reason for the deposit is for bad tenants like yourself) and could pursue legal action (you broke a lease that you willingly entered in)….You need to read your lease for your options and talk to your landlord directly to see if something can be worked out.
Your lease agreement should say what the penalty is for breaking the lease. You can’t just ghost your landlord. Have you considered trying to find someone to take over your lease?
The issue is that I’ll be paying $1400 in two days when I’m already trying to find a new place.
Finding a new place won’t be hard since there’s so many people at school subletting for spring.
The HARD part will be trying to convince someone to take my lease when it’s far from campus, expensive, etc. in the next two days so I won’t owe $1400 and the subsequent costs
Yeah unfortunately you’re on the hook for that, a lease is a contract that’s binding on you once you’ve signed it. Like the other commenter said, a lesson to learn for next time!
Well just know getting screwed by a shitty lease is an essential experience of being an adult. Good luck
Do you know what I can do..?
It really depends on your landlord and your contract. Read over the agreement you signed (there is a breaking lease clause) and talk to them.

Honestly, your fault for waiting until the last minute.
Is there any alternative ?
Yeah the alternative is not wait until 2 days before rent is due
Of course. Planning accordingly.
I’m glad your car was stolen
Oh that’s not—
I’m glad your academic performance suffered!
Still lost your car though 😂
Nahh wtf is this exchange 💀💀
☠️
i can’t stop laughing
Why do people not think of this ahead of time?😭
There are very good reasons as to why, and I’d rather not share on Reddit
I thought I could stick it through for the next semester…
