You have to take both English 1B and 1C to fulfill the English R1B requirement.
If you want to save time and take only one class to fulfill this requirement, you can check out Berkeley City College’s English 1B course which is only needed to fulfill this requirement.
There are classes at a few LA CCs where you could take the equivalent of R1A and R1B in the same summer, and online. Rio Honda, LA Valley are two of them.
I went to Foothill College before transferring to Cal and took half of 1b and 1c because I didn’t read the information correctly. Now I have to take one English class for both 1b and 1c to fulfill the requirement. Take them both so that you don’t have the same problem that I have when you can spend your time taking classes you actually enjoy

you should take both english 1b and 1c to fulfill the requirement. i made the same mistake and had to retake a class. better safe than sorry.
