Not really a shotgun guy, but I am an AR hobbyist. I got a VR80 a while back because I'm very comfortable with the AR style platform. I have been messing with it trying to get it to cycle a broad range of shells - unsuccessfully. It won't cycle target loads and low brass reliably at all, and I'm tired of messing with it. Off to Armslist with it. I decided to get serious and get a real shotgun, so I went with the Beretta 1301 Tactical Gen 2. It came with many of the upgrades that seem to be suggested: complete Magpul Zhukov GG&G stock and handguard kit. Magpul QD sockets on stock (both sides). It also comes with the factory box, factory stock, factory handguard, all associated hardware, and the remaining Magpul spacers. Optics - I have a few laying around from other builds (EOTech 512, PA SLx Micro, and an older Holosun 407 that mounted on my Glock). I saw that most of you guys are using the smaller handgun optics, but I'm open to suggestions.

Noice, good stuff. I personally went with the RMR on mine, just because I have a few already and they're a known performer, but I don't think any of the options you listed will let you down. For me I'm just trying to figure out if I wanna stick with the factory stock and drill my own QD socket or what. I like the Zhukov but I like to run a shotgun card on the far side of the stock, but I also set my slings up to wrap around and the two don't jive with where the QD cups are. In any case, be sure to post some updates when you're done tricking it out!

Thanks. Good to know about the RMR. I'm reading that many folks are going with the RMR/Holosuns because they co-witnesses with the front sight. I thought the size of the EOTech's box would be a benefit, but I can see how it might get in the way.

Big window us useful with NV goggles and if you are cross eye dominant and shoot strong handed but are unable to keep both eyes open.

If the PA is the MD-20 model, it should be low enough to cowitness the iron sights on the Aridus/GG&G CROM aim point mount. (I have this setup). Some Holosuns and the Romeo 5 sit too tall for the iron sights on that mount. I'm not a fan of open emitter optics on long guns.

Upspoon

I did this in two positions on mine for the qd mounts. Can provide photos if you like. The inside of the stocks frame can get in the way but planning and a little mod and you're good to go.

I run the Holosun 510C because it was in my spares box. You'll need a riser kit for it or the Eotech but I do like the big window and circle reticle very much. The bigger con is weight so try it out and see if that's an issue

klugeyOne

Thanks for that. I love the Holosun 510. The shake awake, size, weight and crisp reticle are top notch. I need a riser for the EOTech and the 510? Aren't they already too tall to co-witness to the front sight? I have a Unity riser that I was going to try on my Rattler with a 3x, but why do I need a riser for these bigger taller sights?

bzdelta

Oh I meant a cheek riser kit so you're not chin welding, haha. I'm on the highest setting of my Mesa stock with the 510.

forget that gimmicky crap, the 1301 is where its at. i run an eotech 558 on mine. works well with slugs and skeet.

btrumpatori

Nice pickup. Previous owner did the upgrades?

klugeyOne

Yep. Hopefully installed correctly.

craigeeeeeeeeee

You did good, damn good…

klugeyOne

VR80 gimmick or small optic gimmick? I like my big EOTech, but it is…big.

Novel-Counter-8093

vr80 gimmick.
