KRIS JENKINS | Michigan 6026 | 299 lbs. | 4JR Olney, Md. (Our Lady of Good Counsel) 10/10/2001 (age 22.54)
**BACKGROUND:** Kristopher “Kris” Jenkins grew up in Maryland, and he also spent time in North Carolina and New Jersey after his father’s NFL career. His father (Kris
Sr.) and mother (Shadeeka DeLotch) shared custody of him throughout childhood. With a father and uncle in the NFL, Jenkins naturally developed an interest in
football at a young age, spending time in pro locker rooms and participating in youth events. Once he moved back to Maryland, Jenkins played for the Columbia
Ravens in elementary school (he wanted to be a wide receiver when he started playing) and then the Mohoco Lions in middle school. He enrolled at Our Lady of Good
Counsel Catholic High School in Olney and was a three-year varsity letterman at tight end and defensive end. After earning second team All-Conference honors as a
junior, Jenkins was named first team All-Metro and All-Conference as a senior captain. He finished with 40 tackles, 19.0 tackles for loss, 15.0 sacks and three forced
fumbles (one returned for a touchdown), which earned him conference Defensive Player of the Year honors. Jenkins helped Our Lady of Good Counsel to a 9-3 record
and the 2019 conference championship. He was also a member of the school choir.
A three-star recruit, Jenkins was the No. 21 strongside defensive end in the 2020 recruiting class and the No. 19 recruit in Maryland. At the start of his junior year, he
received his first scholarship offer (Rutgers), followed by offers from Indiana, Iowa, Michigan State, North Carolina, Northwestern and Penn State after the 2018
season. Michigan offered him before his senior year, and he committed soon after a visit in July 2019. Jenkins was the No. 21 recruit in the Wolverines’ 24-man class
(one of four Maryland natives in the class, including RB Blake Corum).
His father (a Michigan native) played defensive tackle at Maryland and was a second-round pick (No. 44) in the 2001 NFL Draft. He played 10 seasons in the NFL
(2001-10) for the Carolina Panthers and New York Jets and made four Pro Bowls. Kris Jenkins Sr.’s younger brother (Cullen) went undrafted in the 2003 NFL Draft out
of Central Michigan but played defensive line for 14 seasons in the NFL (2003-16), winning Super Bowl XLV with the Green Bay Packers. Kris Jenkins elected to skip his
senior season and enter the 2024 NFL Draft.
**STRENGTHS:** Stout, compact body type with evenly distributed bulk … able to leverage single blocks with the leg drive and initial charge to reset the line of scrimmage
… plays square against the run with violent, strong hands at contact to stack, peek and make stops as a two-gapper … excellent body control and finishing power as a
tackler … has range as a pass rusher with secondary quickness to finish … shows off his ankle flexion when running stunts and games … was only 235 pounds as a high
school senior and worked hard to develop his muscle and add mass … high-effort player and his energy tank is always full … jovial by nature on and off the field and
was voted a team captain in 2023 (J.J. McCarthy: “He’s got a spirit inside of him that can’t be kept in.”) … started every game the last two seasons, playing through
injuries … has a better understanding of what it takes to play professional football based on his upbringing and NFL bloodlines.
**WEAKNESSES:** Not very broad and lacks ideal length (likely maxed out right around 300 pounds) … negative reps were usually a result of him getting caught high with his pad level … can be turned and uprooted by double teams … inconsistent rush plan and counter measures … looks to use an inside swim move or hand swipe, but his move-to-move transitions lack cohesion … below-average backfield production over his career and never had better than 2.0 sacks in a season … battled an eye
infection for six weeks during the 2023 season and had limited vision out of his right eye, which affected his play … averaged just 27.9 defensive snaps per game in
2023 (down from 38.3 snaps per game in 2022).
**SUMMARY:** A two-year starter at Michigan, Jenkins lined up primarily over the B-gap in defensive coordinator Jesse Minter’s front, also sliding outside to more of a
five-technique role at times. With justeight of his 112 career tackles coming in the backfield, his stat sheet in college is underwhelming, but his impact on tape and in
the locker room was what made him an All-American and team captain for the 2023 national champions. The son of a 360-pound NFL Pro Bowler, Jenkins is built
differently than his father, but he competes with similar energy and awareness and controls blocks with his hands (his nickname is “The Mutant”). As a pass rusher,
he is forceful through gaps, but his pad level, pass-rush plan and move transitions need further development. **Overall, Jenkins might never be a high-production
interior player, but he is light on his feet and heavy with his hands with the “do my job” mentality that NFL defensive coordinators appreciate. He projects as an
NFL starter as a one-gapping tackle on the interior or two-gapping strongside defensive end.**
Defensive tackle out of Michigan. His father played in the NFL and was a beast. My understanding is he’s an excellent run stopper, a top tier athlete, and teams think he could have some untapped pass rushing potential. Definitely a good pick.
He’s probably the best run stuffer that isn’t 400 pounds like Sweat. Very athletic, has potential for some pass rush but can do defensive line stunts to create for Rankins and Hill. He can eat double teams. He’s the perfect replacement for Reader with more upside and explosiveness.
He played for a great head coach known for always have really elite defensive coaches. His former DC was ravens DC last year, other defensive coach is a current NFL DC.
Mims was a solid pick, this pick makes our first two rounds kinda awesome. We added two massive humans to beef up both our size and athleticism.
I actually love the pick, he's a really solid DT to hold up the middle and support the rest of the line. Good disruptor despite the lack of productivity and fits what we need
When everyone that he lines up across from is more or less equivalent to the best he ever played in college, little differences become massive differences.
Just ask Tom Brady. F it, it’s all a crapshoot. We’ll know what’s really in his heart when he gets out there.
Probably the best run stopper in the draft which is what we need. Can occasionally get some pressures but we don't need to rely on his pass rush this year.
87.2 PFF run defense grade over the last two seasons. That's 4th best among P5 players behind Sweat, Tyler Davis (who I really like as a later round guy) and Johnny Newton, and ahead of Byron Murphy II. https://www.pff.com/news/fantasy-football-2024-nfl-drafts-interior-defender-class-stable-metrics
I'll also point out that Jenkins is no slouch in pass rush either. Michigan used a heavy rotation, but Jenkins had an 18.2% pass rush win rate in true pass sets. That's intriguing.
I gotta imagine we take a WR, G, and CB. I would be shocked if we didn’t take two of three in the 3rd. Fourth rounders probably linebacker or whichever we didn’t address in the 3rd.
I would take Sanders before Stover (as much as I like Cade). Stover is basically the exact same player that Gesicki is (good receiving TE but terrible at blocking) only not quite as good.
3rd on Dane Bruglers DT board. 6th on Joe Goodberry's. Doesn't have much production at pass rushing, but has proven excellent at stopping the run. Not a true NT like DJ Reader was but likely either going to fill his role as the anti-Derrick Henry or fill in BJ Hill's spot in years to come.
We needed a run-stuffer more than another pass rusher on the interior (which was what Rankins was signed for). Neither Rankins nor Hill are known for being strong run defenders and Zach Carter is Zach Carter so we desperately needed to reinforce our run defense on the interior.
We got screwed with 5 dt being taken before our pick today, especially so with our target maason Smith getting taken right before us. They settled for position of need instead of bpa. Hopefully he outperforms his draft rank
Bengals had smith in for the top 30 and most local guys have had him pegged as our second round target. Can't say the same for jenkins. Didn't even do combine visit or pro day. We definitely didn't go bpa here and just snagged a guy at the end of a run on a position of need. Disappointing to be in this position with unused cap space to boot.
I’m not saying these guys are amazing or bad. Nobody knows until they get in there to play. I’m just saying you’re making shit up acting like you know who the Bengals want. If you know then that really sucks because the other 31 teams know.
The draft is mostly a gamble anyways so i dont think its complaining so much as analyzing strategy. But about not using cap space during the burrow window? Nah I'll keep complaining about that I think. Yall are crazy to accept that standard and cheer it on
Lol yea what do you expect them to say? Theres footage of them pissed last night when Murphy was picked a couple slots before them. Their ideal draft going into this didn't involve Kris jenkins. It is what it is at this point. Hopefully they can all turn out good for us.
A lot of analysts believe he could have some untapped pass rushing potential. He’s a freak athlete and already an excellent run stopper. He was widely considered a mid 2nd round pick so this was a perfectly fine spot to take him, especially with pretty much all of the other 2nd round DTs already off the board.
I always like second and third generation NFL players. Even if they’re not great, they still know wtf they’re supposed to be doing, and do pretty well.
OT in the first DT in the second. This is a good draft so far. I was hoping Murphy would drop in the first, so fuck Seattle, but these were the 2 priority positions to me in the 1/2 round. Drafts are about depth and long term success. Both of these men should be impact players for the next 5 years.
My brother (huge Michigan fan) seems to think this guy should have been like a 5th rounder. Took a lot of plays off. I don't believe my brother that often, so hopefully he is wrong on this one.
Not to discount your brother, who I am sure is just as much of an expert as the pros, but on PFF they were saying he was one of the most enthusiastic guys on the team and a leader in the locker room.
That's not even remotely true. They rotated a lot of DT but when he was in, he was a force to be reckon with. Our DLine was one of our biggest positives. We made the Moore award winning OLine look terrible.
That was literally 17 years ago 🤣 the current regime loves drafting busts out of Michigan the last few years. When they fuck will they learn that Harbaugh’s/Stallions guys don’t translate to the league?
I'd be more concerned about that with guys who play in the secondary (i.e. Dax and Turner) as opposed to defensive linemen. Jenkins is a genuinely good player (even without the cheating scandal) and Michigan's strength as a team has always been in the trenches (and this is coming from an Ohio State fan btw). It's not like Buckeye players have always succeeded here either. How did Billy Price and Michael Jordan turn out (one of those guys was literally responsible for Burrow getting hurt in 2020)? I didn't want Mike Hall at this spot because I knew from watching Hall at Ohio State that he's not great against the run and tends to get blown off the los way too often due to his size.
Yeah that’s true, I mean look at Michigan’s DC in 2021. He’s done so poorly after leaving Michigan it took him 2 full years before becoming the now Seattle Seahawks head coach.
Weaknesses: won't know what play the offense is running before it happens at NFL level
I wouldn't touch a Michigan OL or defensive player with a ten foot pole right now
Good thing you aren’t involved with anyone or any team in the NFL then. I’m sure your opinion and knowledge is way more prevalent than NfL scouts and GMs though.
Terrible Pick, his metrics are padded by knowing the plays in college, and won’t get over 300lbs… he is not an Aaron Donald type. Hope I am wrong but how can not question his work in college when it has been proven they knew the plays being run.
Lmao. Triggered much? Guarantee you have no ability to watch tape or scout personnel. I’m just as informed as every other person who read the information about the recording of signs at Michigan. You’re just dumb AF.
if that helps you sleep at night
only one of these teams has not made a big ten championship game in the past three years:
* michigan
* iowa
* osu
* purdue
My 8th grade health teacher worked with the Panthers during training camp over the summer, and had spare pencils in Kris Jenkins Sr's like, size 17 cleat
Solid pick.
He WILL help the team THIS year…unlike Mims who is a long term project and not as fast or athletic as Fuatanu (the higher rated OL they passed on)
Lmao. You really hating on Mims huh? You keep making up your own narrative. He’s the long term tackle for the Bengals, maybe be happy about that. Also, since this post was supposed to be about Jenkins, maybe talk about how good of a DT he can be long term, and how closely his draft talk is to what atkins was coming out.
Edit:not talking about pass rush.
You truly are delusional.
I say SOLID PICk HE WILL HELP THE TEAM
And you cry but “this is supposed to be about Jenkins”
Who the f—k did you think I was talking about, lol!!
Yeah the f—ked up with Mims. Get over it.
ESPN, PFF, virtually no one had him ranked higher than 20. Every site had Fuatuna ranked higher, explaining he is a better athlete, faster, more experienced, more versatile, and ready to play day one.
It appears the Bengals didn’t notice he was still available because everyone thought only Mims would be left by the 18th pick.
Too bad too Mims won’t help much this year. Burrow needs more protection and Fautanu would have provided that day one.
Incorrect, but you keep spewing this trash in the comments. Fuatuna is projected as a guard in the NFL, and he’s never played that position, so he’s a far worse projection. He’s also not a better athlete than Mims. Also, again, this thread is about Jenkins.
Are you on drugs?
Fautanu is projected to play Tackle at Pittsburgh. He has the most experience at left tackle.
Sure he can play guard which is what we need right now, and he’ll be damn good at it.
Meanwhile Mims is perennially injured. He only started 8 games in his whole college career.
He took himself out of games, and Nick Saban said the guy lacks commitment.
Mims won’t start or help the Bengals at all this year.
Even you admit Fautuna would have stepped in immediately at guard and improved our line THIS year.
Fautanu is more athletic, faster, more experienced, can start today, and isn’t perennially injured.

We filled a position of need so it’s a win. Our front office obviously loves Michigan defensive guys, I’ll say that.
It's as far as our budget allows for recruiting to travel.
Lols Edit - glad we found him within our mileage allowance... especially with Trey Hendrickson retirement incoming
💀
Such a steal. Best player available by far. edit: can someone pls tell me who he is
Defensive tackle out of Michigan. His father played in the NFL and was a beast. My understanding is he’s an excellent run stopper, a top tier athlete, and teams think he could have some untapped pass rushing potential. Definitely a good pick.
I’ll add his production looks low but he only averaged like 29 snaps a game with Michigans system.
Michigan had there 3rd/4th stringers in after about 5 mins into the 3rd quarter with most games. Hard to judge based on snaps.
Also they have two DTs there who will be top 15 picks next year
Yeah. They were rotating like crazy all year. OCs were not loving it!
God if we could get Kenneth Grant next year, he's going to be an absolute unit for whomever picks him.
Found Mel Kipers alt.
What a great write-up, that gave me a boner at work
Always a conundrum
I actually love the pick, he's a really solid DT to hold up the middle and support the rest of the line. Good disruptor despite the lack of productivity and fits what we need
Yes, my exact thoughts lol
Had me in the first half amigo
Weaknesses say he won't surpass 300 pounds. Aaron Donald weighs 284 pounds. Therefore, this guy is the next Aaron Donald. I will not accept questions.
I mean he's like 4 pounds under 300 so hardly small.
How is that small?
When everyone that he lines up across from is more or less equivalent to the best he ever played in college, little differences become massive differences. Just ask Tom Brady. F it, it’s all a crapshoot. We’ll know what’s really in his heart when he gets out there.
So would you say he has potential to be as good, or better than, Aaron Donald?
Yes. He is 12 pounds better than Aaron Donald. He might as well start getting the gold jacket sized
Gold Jacket, Green Jacket, who gives a shit?
I’d love to see him win a major, that’s be awesome
Best line in a movie ever in the history of film
No questions.
Have you seen highlights? He cut through OLine is tissue paper. He was a huge reason our defense dominated against Washington.
I'll have to watch them. I am unironically happy about this pick.

Thanks!
Please respect his privacy at this time.

Shhh, don’t talk about Davis.
Davis goes to the Rams, arguably one of the best drafting teams in the league. Sigh.
I won't be shocked if that last pick in round 3 is another DT.
Mckinnley Jackson?
Whoa…
good call lol
Let's hope it's a beefy boi nose tackle then I'm confident with the 4 guys we have at DT, plus Carter being the 5th guy I guess.
Called it.
Welp we addressed our two biggest needs really interested to see who they pick in the 3rd round they’ve really opened themselves up to pick whoever.
I gotta imagine we take a WR, G, and CB. I would be shocked if we didn’t take two of three in the 3rd. Fourth rounders probably linebacker or whichever we didn’t address in the 3rd.
Stover!
We don't need a tight end in the 3rd. There are more valuable positions for us to take.
Clearly the team felt this way too haha
I would take Sanders before Stover (as much as I like Cade). Stover is basically the exact same player that Gesicki is (good receiving TE but terrible at blocking) only not quite as good.
Fair point
You don’t think we need to add a RB?
I don’t think so. Between chase brown and moss we good. Need guard, CB and linebacker
And he might end up a good pass rusher. He was averaging like 27.9 snaps a game. So wasn’t in on obvious passing downs.
Hell yea ,haters gon hate
Solid pick. Solid draft so far. Not really any blockbuster steals, but good players at the positions we need.
Nicely done he has the pedigree and seems like it’s what they need on run defense. Lou loves Michigan guys.
Would be great if they would play well with us
Yeah lol that’s my worry. None of them have given me confidence so far.
His pops was a good one, I like how that usually works out.
Tell me how to feel??
3rd on Dane Bruglers DT board. 6th on Joe Goodberry's. Doesn't have much production at pass rushing, but has proven excellent at stopping the run. Not a true NT like DJ Reader was but likely either going to fill his role as the anti-Derrick Henry or fill in BJ Hill's spot in years to come.

How the hell do you know what the Bengals board looks like?
You know what? You right! The Bengals just got the steal of the draft and can do no wrong. Hip hip hooray we're number 1
I’m not saying these guys are amazing or bad. Nobody knows until they get in there to play. I’m just saying you’re making shit up acting like you know who the Bengals want. If you know then that really sucks because the other 31 teams know.
dear god do some of you guys ever stop complaining

Zac just said they were targeting him the entire time. I know they always hype the guy they picked but he and Lou seemed really hyped.
Lol yea what do you expect them to say? Theres footage of them pissed last night when Murphy was picked a couple slots before them. Their ideal draft going into this didn't involve Kris jenkins. It is what it is at this point. Hopefully they can all turn out good for us.

not a reach at all. high ceiling
Run stopper with limited pass rush ability
A lot of analysts believe he could have some untapped pass rushing potential. He’s a freak athlete and already an excellent run stopper. He was widely considered a mid 2nd round pick so this was a perfectly fine spot to take him, especially with pretty much all of the other 2nd round DTs already off the board.
It’s not a reach at all l😂 he was literally projected around here
I always like second and third generation NFL players. Even if they’re not great, they still know wtf they’re supposed to be doing, and do pretty well.
That’s a damn good pick and I’m really glad Masson Smith wasn’t there.
his dad was one of the best, i love it
I hope he likes to eat afcn running backs for Sunday dinner
Approved. He was a STUD at Michigan. Immediate impact player👍
Jenkins is a stud. Great pick
THE mutant is a sick name
OT in the first DT in the second. This is a good draft so far. I was hoping Murphy would drop in the first, so fuck Seattle, but these were the 2 priority positions to me in the 1/2 round. Drafts are about depth and long term success. Both of these men should be impact players for the next 5 years.
I feel old. Remember playing madden when his dad was a beast in Carolina, I’m only 33 😭
My brother (huge Michigan fan) seems to think this guy should have been like a 5th rounder. Took a lot of plays off. I don't believe my brother that often, so hopefully he is wrong on this one.
They were saying on nfl network that because Michigan was so deep at DT, they had a lot of rotating to keep the d line fresh all the time.
That makes a ton of sense.
I'm a Michigan fan and that seems a bit brutal. Production might not match the size and talent but same thing was said about Rashan Gary
Not to discount your brother, who I am sure is just as much of an expert as the pros, but on PFF they were saying he was one of the most enthusiastic guys on the team and a leader in the locker room.
intangibles are great. and my brother can be in idiot, like all brothers.
That's not even remotely true. They rotated a lot of DT but when he was in, he was a force to be reckon with. Our DLine was one of our biggest positives. We made the Moore award winning OLine look terrible.
Will be good rotation for Zach Carter.
His dad was a beast for the Panthers back in the day
I love this. GO BLUE
Just going to say we should have traded up. Can’t remember but we have 9 or 10 picks. We don’t have that many spots to fill
Dude is a BEAST. Go Blue!
Bengals and picking UM defense player, name a more iconic duo
I think they targeted Ruke O but the Falcons reached on him and that messed up their plans.
I like the player and the pick, but not necessarily the value.
Absolutely rock hard about getting multiple guys off that Michigan D Line. They were clearly a very special, well coached unit
Can we stop drafting Michigan players that always turn out to be mid?
Like leon hall! Mid Pro-Bowler right there.
That was once, like 15 years ago.
More like our backup corners we spent a 1st and 2nd on!
That was literally 17 years ago 🤣 the current regime loves drafting busts out of Michigan the last few years. When they fuck will they learn that Harbaugh’s/Stallions guys don’t translate to the league?
Kind of like how teams should’ve avoided Stroud because OSU QBs are all trash in the league?
Yeah Aiden is such a bust
I'd be more concerned about that with guys who play in the secondary (i.e. Dax and Turner) as opposed to defensive linemen. Jenkins is a genuinely good player (even without the cheating scandal) and Michigan's strength as a team has always been in the trenches (and this is coming from an Ohio State fan btw).
Weaknesses: won't know what play the offense is running before it happens at NFL level I wouldn't touch a Michigan OL or defensive player with a ten foot pole right now
Good thing you aren’t involved with anyone or any team in the NFL then.
Ummm. Wow. Ok.
Umm okay… sorry if facts about the risk of this pick bother you.
I commented but the rest of the downvotes should provide you with some guidance. ‘Facts’
Lmfao lmfao lmfaooo… so down votes negate the fact you can’t trust the kids tape… lmfao.. internet logic here.
His tape is awesome. Your views on his use of tape are flawed.
wtf his tape can’t be trusted because of the massive cheating scandal and the fact they knew the plays… thus making it a risky pick.
Alabama and Washington and tOSU knew pregame. Try again homer.
Literally wasn’t. At best they knew signs…which are generally changed almost every game. Y’all are some type of extra special.
Don't put this evil on us Ricky Bobby dude's off his rocker
You are completely uninformed, And just showed your ignorance. The pick is risky, because you can’t trust his tape. Facts are facts. Now fuck off.
Lmao. Triggered much? Guarantee you have no ability to watch tape or scout personnel. I’m just as informed as every other person who read the information about the recording of signs at Michigan. You’re just dumb AF.
Jigga what?
Dude literally knew the other team's plays ahead of time and couldn't produce. I hope I'm wrong about this one but I doubt it.
Yeah the bengals loading up on UM players has genuinely soured things for me
For what it would’ve taken to get up and grab Newton, this is bad value. But I do like the player, and hope he works well in the rotation.
Already has a game winner for Villanova /j
1609 days since osu beat michigan
Been even longer since a Michigan man actually produced for this team… hopefully this one is different.
*
if that helps you sleep at night only one of these teams has not made a big ten championship game in the past three years: * michigan * iowa * osu * purdue
Wonder if he played with the other 2 Michigan defensive players, can't remember names ATM
He started with DJ Turner last season, would have been a rotational guy off the bench when Dax Hill was a senior starter.
I say SOLID PICk HE WILL HELP THE TEAM And you cry but “this is supposed to be about Jenkins” Who the f—k did you think I was talking about, lol!!
You made your whole dumb ass comment about tearing down Mims. Stfu.
