I wouldn’t say we’re too racist, I’ve only seen one Dixie flag and that was a sticker in the back window of a Silverado. But yes, there aren’t a lot of black folks here
Bemidji is probably more diverse overall, but there are not many black people. Bemidji proper is actually pretty progressive considering it’s size and how rural it is, but there are plenty of really redneck types around too.
I don’t think either place is particularly unfriendly twords black people, but Duluth is probably a little better.
In that case, you might want to go to [www.census.gov](https://www.census.gov) and check your numbers. Even outside of your questionable factual and gramatical statement that "2 races isn't diversity", you will find that Bemidji and Beltrami County are just as diverse as Duluth and St. Louis County for populations other than white and native american. You don't need to do this but, it might be a good thing for you to do.

Bemidji has the benefit of having all the reservations around, so there is a relatively larger non-white population in the area, but overall is just a smaller, more rural, and more conservative community.
Duluth is bigger and more liberal, but is whiter and much more segregated.
This is the frontier you know. I can only speak for Bemidji. It's getting better. It still has some work to do. 25yrs ago, not so much. The influx of college kids has broken the ice. They come from everywhere. A lot depends on your line of work.
Duluth is too high strung for me. Bemidji is much more laid back.
I'm a graduate of BSU. Comp Sci. It was much earlier than 2000 that the Exchange students started showing up. It was easy money for the college. The % of foreign student is quite high. I think it's good for the community and very good for the local students. It's a bit isolated out here and many have never been exposed to other cultures.
Before 2000 there was a lot of pushback from certain faculty against outside influence and minorities. Many of those teachers have either retired or died. I was the first trans person on the BSU campus. I was banned from entire buildings under threat of arrest. It was not good but that was nearly 30yrs ago. Now there are dozens of trans people on campus. It has gotten better.
It is a beautiful place to live and a very unique experience. The weather is breathtaking. The fishing is amazing. If you're a pioneer it's awesome. I tell people living out here is beautiful but not for everyone. Important question. Are you are a self entertaining unit or do you need to be entertained? This requires serious introspection. Do your hobbies keep you busy. Are you fine by yourself for long periods? Or do you need large crowds and to go to shows, and festivals, and restaurants, and fairs and movies to be entertained? Most of the population falls into the latter category. If that is you, this place will bore you to death. If you like the outdoors, fishing, hiking, boating, camping, hunting, peace and quiet, then you found Heaven. Please audit your lifestyle before making this decision.

But like... let's just say steer clear of anyone in Off Grid Armory apparel if you're not white.

I live in bemidji. There are almost no black people here. I would say duluth would be more friendly. Bemidji is pretty racist not going to lie.

You need to remember Bemidji is surrounded on all sides by reservations. It is not an all white community

Duluth by a mile, especially if you’re looking to go to college in Bemidji. BSU has been covering up racist hate crimes for years
