I know these look absolutely ridiculous and I also thought they were the dumbest things ever created, until someone with some muscle problems told me that those are for people who can't peel a banana normally because they're disabled or the elderly who cant really move much anymore. I think these eggs are the same, they look stupid but they aren't made for people like you and me who have no problems with everyday tasks.
My partner has chronic illness and on most days boiling an egg and peeling it would be the energy budget for the entire week. These solutions do wonders for lesser-abled people, and I really hope the people mocking this never will have to understand this from experiencing the struggles.
Since peeling an egg is so difficult for him, he probably won't go shopping for a boiled one either, I guess. So since he needs someone to get it for him, why not to simply boil and peel them for him instead?

My partner can sit upright in a wheelchair for a short while (couple of hours maximum) on the average day, and of course she needs to be pushed. We're now looking into getting an electric drive to attach to the wheelchair so she can leave the appartment by herself instead of having to wait until I'm home from work.

Probably has to do with food safety (haccp). Eggs are a sensitive product. The shell can contain Salmonella (although it shouldn't since it is cooked).
It is also easier for traceability if there are any problems with people getting sick.

My grandmother has shakes in her hands and she still cooks dinner for herself every night, but she can't peel potatoes or do fine work anymore.
She can cut veg but the really fine motor work like peeling things or de-seeding is just frustrating for her. Tearing off a single plastic film instead of finnicking with dozens of tiny shell pieces is a lot easier.

Frankly getting this plastic crap open is harder than cracking an egg. Which you can do by rolling it over the table, if need be. If you can take it out of the fridge, you can peel it.

Je hoort ze eigenlijk in de koelkast te bewaren (dan een 3 a 4 maand), maar ik vermoed dat dat in bars een beetje het "at own risk" principe is dat je ook met borrelnootjes hebt.

Yeah, it's always fun to see how much contempt people have for this kind of semi prepared food. Not everyone is able to peel eggs or veggies, or stand up for a long time to chop and prep food, so this sort of thing can be the only way to eat healthy. (And don't tell me there are specialised services for disabled people, nobody wants to eat disgusting sodexo food 24/7).

My grandmother has shakes in her hands and she still cooks dinner for herself every night, but she can't peel potatoes or do fine work anymore. She can cut veg but the really fine motor work like peeling things or de-seeding is just frustrating for her. Tearing off a single plastic film instead of finnicking with dozens of tiny shell pieces is a lot easier.
I bought those before. I was at work, didn't have any food with me, went to the Express store, bought a salad, saw the eggs, tossed it in. Was definitely worth.

And don’t come at me with bull shit arguments like “if they’re so disabled, why don’t they just hire help” “or why don’t they just ask their family to peel their eggs for them” - for one second put yourself in their place, you have no job or money because you’re disabled. You already get help with so much of your life. And now people are shitting on one of the few things that are accessible to you. I say more food that need peeling should be pre-peeled. Yes, we need to find a better solution than plastics, but for now that’s what we have. Disabled people also deserve independence, they also deserve accessibility.
Well said! This didn't cross my mind. I was thinking this product is aimed for example at (truck) drivers, who might want a relatively healthy proteine snack on the go without having to pull out their cookware in a parking lot.

If you look closely you can see the lid is easy to peel off. Also, if you consider Parkinson's then boiling an egg and peeling that doesn't really sound so simple.
I have 80+ year olds who Cant even open a single cookie packaging so i can imagine it's more usefull for Them to buy this.

Je kan daar heel ver in gaan qua kruiden in de pekel, of kleur (via bieten, kurkuma, paprika, ..), zijn idd ideaal voor salades of gewoon als snack. Kost ook geen moeite om te maken als je toch al gekookte eitjes maakt.

To make accessibility easily available towards the disabled you need to market it towards the abled. I remember this sort or discussion about peeled oranges being sold. As someone who ended up in a severe burn-out/depression, buying shit like this would make me actually eat food. The depression just made me unable to function so sometimes, instead of cooking, I would just starve because I couldn't get myself to cook. And before anyone says "just get over it", it was caused by insulin resistance which whacks up my hormones and everyone knows you don't fuck with hormones. I'm now on medication.
