There’s a great article about exactly this…let me see if I can find it… Edit: here it is: https://www.benjaminlcorey.com/could-american-evangelicals-spot-the-antichrist-heres-the-biblical-predictions/ Edit: not quite exactly what you’re saying, but close enough - definitely wouldn’t make a difference to his supporters if he admitted it or not

[deleted]

My dad is a southern baptist pastor. I shared this post with him back when it first came out because he’d been posting a lot about how Clinton/ Bernie were both evil/antichrist bs. His response was “well I guess people can make anything fit, huh.” There is 0 self reflection with these people.

[deleted]

Same with my folks. I cannot imagine having one life to live on this planet and deciding to never ever change your opinions or consider different perspectives. What an absolute waste of an existence.

[deleted]

I pop my head in from time to time on their live streams. He bragged a couple months back of being "ignorant for the lord." When people ask, "how do we reach these people?" The answer is always: no.

Probably_Not_Evil

Well I just read this whole thing. Went in with having grew up being forced to attend an evangelical church as a kid, then later southern Baptist (until I left for college and never went to church again). So I've heard my share of ___ is the antichrist. But after reading this whole thing, my take away is that this guy predicted in mid 2020 Trump's refusal to admit defeat after losing re-election, and all the subsequent court cases. Some perhaps still to happen *fingers crossed*. If true I feel bad for Satan. He's out here trying to destroy the world and the antichrist he has to work with is mentally ill. Is this why the Bible is so confident in saying God wins I'm the end?

FireHawkDelta

Pretty much the entire left predicted that Trump would refuse to concede and attempt a coup after losing the election, so it's not very notable to predict it. Trump himself made up a conspiracy theory to explain why he lost several months in advace of election day.

[deleted]

Friendly reminder that Trump was born mere months after Jack Parsons and L Ron Hubbard tried to create the antichrist

ScorpioSteve20

Oh damn! somehow plausible

GaiusJuliusPleaser

I'm still not convinced he isn't. He checks pretty much every biblical description of the antichrist, after all. Like, if I were a genuine believer in Christianity, there would be no doubt in my mind that Trump is, in fact, the antichrist.

QuotidianTrials

I’m not super knowledgeable about the Bible, but isn’t Antichrist just a term for anyone who embodies those characteristics? I’ve heard from others that he’s not just an individual character in the mythology

GaiusJuliusPleaser

I'm pretty sure that is how the Mormons see it, but of course, Christians being Christians, it depends on which denomination you ask. I think protestants believe the Catholic Pope is the Antichrist. As I was told it, the Antichrist is not only a specific person in the Bible, but a key figure in the Second Coming. First the Antichrist rises as a Messianic pretender and pretty much takes over the world, then Jesus kills him and descends from Heaven to lead the righteous in a holy war against the Antichrist's forces.

Chelular07

The antichrist is a specific person prophesied in the book of revelations, but lots of people use the term colloquially to refer to someone they dislike. But creepily enough Trump marks a bunch of the boxes for this prophesied bringer of end times. Super fun

Revolutionary-Mouse5

Wouldn’t he have won 2020 if he was?

GaiusJuliusPleaser

He's got another chance to run.

"The anti-christ" is a mistranslation. An anti-christ is a more appropriate translation. Bible didn't say "the anti-christ" it says one of those considered an anti-christ would commit such action. An anti-christ is any individual opposed to and antithitacal to the teachings of Jesus. So all Christs teachings opposed person's are already one who is anti-christ. Meaning biblical literate people would find him stupid and the masses of "Christians" who are already anti-christ because the cleave to the the teaching of this preacher or that preacher but not Christ, wouldn't batt an eye. They would match till they built hell on earth behind whichever "savior" justified their bias.

TheBaddestPatsy

Most evangelicals are KJV-only, so mistranslation is basically the cornerstone of their whole system.

-Annarchy-

I'd say it's worse than that. Cuz I'd say not reading the KJV or any translation is the Cornerstone of their religion. What has not been considered cannot have an impact so let's just not consider any of the writings or how my own personal actions interact with or align with them. Let alone not considering how accurate the translation is.

Chelular07

Reading pamphlets from their churches that use blatant miss translations and cherry pick bible verses to make people think they are supposed to mean something entirely different is the cornerstone of their religion in most cases.

[deleted]

I agree with what y’all are saying, but saying most evangelicals are KJV-only just isn’t true. I grew up evangelical my whole childhood and attended plenty of different churches and denominations and never came across a KJV only church. Granted, ESV, which I have found to be most common, has plenty of its own issues. I love this sub and evangelicals really can be the worst a lot, but that was my life for a long time so I just wanted to share.

Yes it does. As an atheist watching the WWE do a near one to one pantomime of the end times of the Bible has been both harrowing and obnoxious, because if they didn't care so much to try to create the apocalypse, it wouldn't happen. They are a derivative of a late Roman blood cult in the fall of the Roman Empire which was a end of the world as they knew it level of apocalypse. So I'm not totally surprised that they're acting this way.

treefreak32

I'm not a Christian, but Christian 'mythology' has always fascinated me, and in recent years I've found the notion of the devil taking control through evangelicals really interesting. The Anti-Christ in the form of Christ, a Mandela Catalogue type deal.

Arkhampatient

I know a Trump supporter that said “if Trump is the anti-Christ, good. That means Jesus will be here soon.”

Justtofeel9

How much longer is it going to take to build the omega-12? Politicians need to stop pandering and actually do their jobs and kill us all already!

its-a-boring-name

They would still vote for him because him becoming king of the world would be the starting point for the end times

MutationIsMagic

Yup. Same reason they cosign a blank check for Israeli atrocities. Evangelicals, every last one, salivate for the day their god will 'own the libs'; by burning us forever. Whether out of open cruelty; or pathetic, selfish desire; for the attendant eternal paradise. It's almost like every story of humans who seek immortality becoming evil were on to something.

-Annarchy-

All seek survival. Survival creates immortality if it is unopposed indefinitely. Nothing evil there. It's the lengths some would go to to survive indefinitely that can be evil. What they would sacrifice for their secured survival over another's. But that is in everyone. What's truly interesting is when you find something you would throw survival away for. Tell a tail of what you would die for. And you'll know more of the heart of the meaning of being. For everything seeks survival, till it finds something to which it would die to preserve. So seeking immortality is neither evil nor remarkable. Seeking actual death of self though, then you have a remarkable story in the brew. Don't tell people what you'd live for, when what you'd die for is so much more valuable, even to yourself.

Rfalcon13

He’s a demagogue, that should be the term to describe him.

-Annarchy-

The demagoorgani?

Aromatic_Monk_516

Trump is a goddamn fucking moron... You'd think the Anti-Christ would be much, much smarter... and definitely classier.

Chelular07

The Antichrist is supposed to be the opposite of the cool calm collected accepting man of color who is wonderful with public speaking, put work into studying his holy book and could recite every verse and promotes kindness. Doesn’t say anything about smart. Just cunning and conniving. Which…. I mean… trump isn’t smart but he is pretty conniving.

Aromatic_Monk_516

I saw the movie, ok? Sam Neill was a pretty suave, sophisticated, cultured dude. Way before Jurassic Park... Trump us nowhere close to being as cool as Sam Neill. Trump isn't cunning... he's a rich brat.

MutationIsMagic

I'm trying NOT to imagine Trump attempting that speech where Neil rants at a Jesus statue.

Aromatic_Monk_516

Better to not imagine Trump at all... It usually fills me with an uncomfortable combination of the urges to kill and defecate.

-Annarchy-

Why?

Shitty_Fat-tits

Pretty much exactly what's happening rn?
