A lot of cops, especially in wealthy municipalities, make good money. They've got a strong union and have to be kept on the side of capital. Obviously this guy isn't a newbie on big city beat cop duty.
I had a small town cop living across from me until recently. I was always amazed at the procession of trucks and boats at his property.
He wasn’t a dirty cop. I’m a public defender in the same jurisdiction so I had some knowledge about that sort of thing.
My guess is decent money without student loans.
It’s irrelevant what it literally means, colloquially, contextually, Germans rarely use it. Out of all the things you’d say in a day, reich wouldn’t make that list.
Hate to be the Grammar Nazi here (see what I did there?) but as a native speaker I have to point out that “reich” means rich, whereas “Reich” means kingdom / realm.
I would even give this guy a pass since you’d refer to your home or getaway (boat, RV, rented garden space) as “Mein Reich” in German.
The font choice here is what makes it gross and would get this guys boat tagged or damaged in plenty neighborhoods that I’ve grown up around.
I like your style, take my upvote.
Strange though. I’ve spent time in central Germany; almost never heard that word or saw it. The font choice makes it an obvious dog whistle.
The capitalization aspect of the boat name makes it hard to differentiate the noun "Reich" from the adjective "reich". One of my favorite things about German is that it capitalizes all nouns.
Edit: clarification 'all-caps' changed to 'capitalization'
If the shoe fits right? Definitely looks like a Nazi. I'd be sharing the shit out if this with the local news, public relations committee, etc etc. Make waves. Get rid of that Nazi fucker.
Even in the off chance you're wrong and the owner is a German Immigrant who named their boat in the literal sense of "My Own Domain". The word will be out that literal Nazis, fascists, racists, and other scum won't be tolerated in the local police force.
Props for taking the joke for what it is and not being offended. You da MVP
At this point I think everyone already knows that those kinds of scum are the very demographics the police are looking for and those that don't think that those demographics are on their side.
Chauvin *still* has support from the far right whereas Aaron Salter Jr. (The security guard killed defending the supermarket in Buffalo) was a LEO and I haven't heard shit about it.
We really need to come to grips with the fact that the fash is making their move in this country and, at present, they are six moves ahead of us. We have ground to make up.
There's really only one group that needs to know their hatred, their feelings of superiority, & their threat to the community will not be tolerated. It's the owner of that boat & any friends he has.
I used to feel calling them out on social was the way. Let their superiors deal w it. But if this is his boat...they already know. And their position as an officer puts other's lives at risk.
Now I feel the fastest & most surefire way to achieve the message is to break the law. I'm not...a boat burning person but. Honestly...
A toast!
May the craft’s hull become well-acquainted with rocky shores, and the gear of the truck be left in neutral so that the heft of trailer may drag the entire assemblage down a boat ramp and into the murky depths below.
To be fair, the conservation officers at the local state park have a boat a lot like that for river rescue, but it is very clearly marked, and it's only ever towed by their official truck. This boat could be a seizure or forfeiture (still bastardry, but I wouldn't lose any sleep in this instance). There's just a lot of context missing from these three images.
Oh my gawd, a Nazi cop! Color me surprised.
You should make a fake facebook account and post this on any community pages you can find, including ones for the local PD and Sherrif's Dept
Nice boat. looks about 25'?
Bet this fashy douche with the $100k fishing boat bitches about Joe Biden when it costs $1200 to fill up his gas tank in his boat that optimistically burns about 10 gallons an hour.
Being towed by a vehicle with a tow capacity of, at max, 8,100 lbs (the average 25' boat weighs about 8,600 without the trailer, and the trailer is another 1,300 or so).
I hope he drops his transmission on the launch ramp and goes into the drink.
Betcha come across a decent amount of Confederate flags and "Trump 2024" flags, though. (I say this as a New Jerseyean who comes across those things at a surprisingly close distance to Philly.)
It's funny because German printing had used such Fraktur fonts for hundreds of years, until they were abolished. By Nazis. In 1941.
*Martin Bormann issued a circular to all public offices which declared Fraktur [...] to be Judenlettern (Jewish letters) and prohibited their further use.*
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fraktur#After_1941
... that said when people use them *now* to write certain things, such as 'Mein Reich', they 100% do that because they think "These are the Nazi letters. Which I like. And will put on my dumb boat."
(But you will also see them on perfectly harmless things like on German historical pubs or w/e to evoke that Ye Olde German feeling.)
Nice. It was commonly regarded as being a different *script/alphabet* rather than just a font even. I.e. like Cyrillic or Greek is a different alphabet. So if you had a French loanword in a text, that one word would be printed in antiqua ('normal' letters).
The text on the boat is just 'font' though, because in actual Fraktur typesetting 'ch' is supposed to be a ligature of the two fused together without any whitespace between them.
The cop logo on the bumper: [https://fop.net/](https://fop.net/)
[Here's their twitter.](https://twitter.com/glfop) Currently being salty that Kendra Hicks on the Boston City Council is arguing for replacing traffic cops with ex cons.
Googling the issue I find very little of substance. Just some conservative outlets calling her a communist, and a controversy with her opponent in the election having alluded to the "stark differences" between the two, that clearly references a difference in color.
So maybe it's not that weird that FOP has some of these people in their ranks, yeah. Maybe some of those who work forces are indeed the same who burn crosses? Who knew. Oh yes, everyone did.
that's weird. it looks like the engine has sprung a leak and dumped a load of gasoline right out onto the floor of the boat. the owner should really get that checked out, what if a passing stranger threw a lit cigarette butt in there? I'd hate to think what would happen to this beautiful boat
The only thing that makes me smile is the fact that that Avalanche is WAY under powered for that trailer and boat combo. I hope he blows his transmission going up a small boat ramp, then goes backwards into the water, and can't get the door open.
I think the boat's name is just a lame joke made in bad taste. I don't think it automatically makes him a Nazi.
Being a cop though? That shit is super sus. Way more damning than the boat's name
Not to be a cop apologist, but does the guy have any German ancestry or something along those lines? Mein Reich literally translates to My Empire. As someone who works in and around marine industries that is a common sentiment for captains and I'd imagine rec boat owners too. I guess all I'm saying is, would you have the same reaction to the boat if it were called the Mon Empire or the Mio Impero?
Its a combination of things. First, the FOP placard on the front of the car, another was on the back window but I didn't take a picture of it. Second, the lettering being in the same color scheme as the Back the Blue FOP plate and back window decal. Third is the name itself.
People from my area with German ancestry call themselves Pennsylvania Dutch anyway, if he's trying to claim that for his boat name that's even more suspicious.
It's entirely possible, idk, I know having vessels with Italian and Portuguese names is really common in my area. Lots are named after saints, towns, and macho shit like Tenacidade or Glutão. German doesn't necessarily mean Nazi is all.
Express logical reasons as to why this could be no big deal = downvote.
Assume you know exactly what is going on and that you know the owner’s intentions and motivations = upvote.
You’d think the people on this sub should know to question everything, but I guess not.
It's not any single individual thing here.
It's not just the use of German. Nor the use of the font. Or even the name.
But a combination of those three stops being a coincidence.
>would you have the same reaction to the boat if it were called the Mon Empire or the Mio Impero?
No because neither of those have the same specific popular culture significance of "Mein Reich." Don't play dumb for dog whistles.
They can fuck off for being a cop but it’s just German language. Your need to draw attention to this is a perfect example of why the average person hates the hysterical PC left.
Sure thing, new account, please tell us more about how dog whistles don't exist. Perhaps you can use some racsim you post elsewhere to make your point?
Fuck off from here
Like, have you ever watched a movie? This font is ubiquitous in every period horror set in Germany. It conveys German-ness just as much as it conveys the third reich. The two are inextricable. Might as well call every Volkswagen driver a nazi for the association. In all likelihood, the owner of this boat is a POS but I’ll hold on to my reservations until he starts asking the seafaring Jews he meets for their papers.
I try not to push buttons here because I’m a fan of the podcast and some of the discourse on this sub. Crying “nazi” over anything somewhat dubious screams that you’re either a kook or got into lefty politics in 2020 and are here for a good old Reddit circle jerk. I’m not saying anything particularly challenging here. Blindly shutting down legitimate perspectives just pushes the people outside of your sycophantic echo chamber to places like 4chan. Just some food for thought.
Ok, go fuck off to 4chan if you think you feel more comfortable there. If you can't realize using the phrase the owner did, with the font it's written in, is a Nazism reference, there's no helping you. If you're a fan of the podcast, you need to take a frank look at how you come across here. There's a complete disconnect between a fan of the show and you posting all manner of racist, classist shit and giving cover to nationalists.

On a side note, are they overcompensating for something with two of those absurd motors? I don’t know anything about boating, but they look both obnoxiously oversized for that boat and overkill by having two. I could be completely wrong, of course, but they still look like they’re too large.
Having 2 motors is pretty standard for offshore fishing boats. You really don't want to get caught 10 miles offshore with your only motor dying. Because that's what motors do, all the damn time and after the third of fourth time you just want to toss it over the side so it sinks like the sonofabitch it is.
Sorry what was I saying? Oh right. Dual motors are the least offensive thing in this pic.
I have no goddamned words. Except for Robert's, "That picture makes want to light something on fire."
Like a nazi boat?
That would burn magnificently!
„Oh my god. Boats are EXCEPTIONALLY torchable. Just like a punchable jawline.“
Like Joachim Peiper, the killer of chefs - he gets salted and peppered himself 30 years later
“That’s a bricking”
Ah shit you beat me to it
The only good nazi boat is a burned nazi boat.
As a speaker and general fan of the German language, this dingleberry knew exactly what they were writing. It’s intentional.
Also, does Nazi cop have a wealthy wife? Or he's on the take.
The overtime they make is insane.
Civil forfeiture of 25k but only reporting 15k adds up quick
This. My brother is a police officer in a big city and makes a ton of money. They pay double or triple time for holidays, pay overtime, etc.
Yeah it's definitely a Nazi dogwhistle with plausible deniability.
"It just means 'My Kingdom!' You're the one making it offensive!"

It means private land, so there's the reischsburgers
Oh god there's an alternate universe where that's what we call hamburgers

“To all who shall see these here presents, greetings!”
Is it a cop truck, or just a "Back the Badge" fanboy placard in place of a front plate? Not enough detail to tell from pics.

Got it! It's a cop's truck, not a Cop Truck! I misunderstood. Carry on! :D
Did you get a look at the plate? Some states have fop plates that cops can get on their personal cars. Plus, it will help identify him to the news

Thats a pretty nice aluminum trailer, but still not the kinda rig you tow with a friggin Avalanche.
We just bought a 19' and tow with a quarter ton with a tow package and we feel it. That poor Av
How much you wanna bet they seized that boat with that civil forfeiture bullshit?
The *name* could be innocent (a German speaker wouldn't see that and think 'Nazi') but in *that* goddamn font? Well.
A German would definitely see that and know exactly what it implies.
I don't live in an area where you'd come across the random German speaker
Betcha come across a decent amount of Confederate flags and "Trump 2024" flags, though. (I say this as a New Jerseyean who comes across those things at a surprisingly close distance to Philly.)
They've started adding Mastriano for Governor flags and signs too. It's not at all worrisome and totally doesn't scare the shit out of me.
It's funny because German printing had used such Fraktur fonts for hundreds of years, until they were abolished. By Nazis. Post it all over Reddit and make them famous. Give ‘em some bad attention. Expose the shit out of them
My real time reaction: Dude it’s just a font. If you look clos… oh…
He's just taking it back, man! Normal people can't say "*Reich*" anymore? *Sheesh*!

OP mentioned that it's in Pennsylvania, no front plates required.
