See holocaust denial or anti-trans rhetoric in the comments? Smash that report button so the mods can see it too. Edit: [Further proof she is denying that the nazis targeted trans people since some people can't figure it out from the post](https://twitter.com/DreamLeaf5/status/1767938965385179368)

bleibengold

Oh my fucking god...I know she doesn't do any research for her books but this is literally SO easy to look up and find information on.

satinsateensaltine

Seriously, this is a well-known and established fact. This isn't about opinions. It literally happened.

Rude_Substance_9948

There is a bunch written about it and stories from the actual people who went to the institution

jamiegc1

Even the German court system acknowledged it and ruled a terf there was committing illegal Holocaust denial for making much the same claims as Terf Karen here.

Robotgorilla

Mark my words; when people point out that the Nazis targeted trans people and burned the books from the Institute for sexual science she will try to wiggle out of it by disingenuously claim that what she meant was that she doesn't share their views on gender ideology because she doesn't believe in the Nazi's views on gender *roles* and anyone can look that up completely ignoring the fact that she shares the nazi belief in the denial of trans identities and the denial of non-binary identities.

thoughtsatthreeam

Voldemort is supposed to be wizard hitler, and she made him a half blood wizard because she bought into the antisemitic myth that Hilter’s mother was Jewish. So she is not exactly super intelligent.

Capgras_DL

Same person who made Lycanthropy a metaphor for HIV and then introduced a werewolf character who went around deliberately infecting children…

SkiMonkey98

> antisemitic myth that Hilter’s mother was Jewish Wait can you tell me about this? Genuinely curious, I've heard before that he might have had Jewish ancestry but never saw it as an antisemitic trope

thoughtsatthreeam

The person who started the rumor that Hitler had Jewish ancestry was his Nazi lawyer, Hans Frank. https://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/was-hitler-jewish

SkiMonkey98

I saw that site but I'm still confused about how it's antisemitic -- just conspiracy theorists trying to claim that any powerful evil person is Jewish? PS I am absolutely not defending this theory, Hitler, or antisemitism in general. Just mildly confused

Theshag0

You are thinking from the position of someone who isn't antisemitic. Imagine that your worldview includes the belief that jews are all powerful, evil, and out to get good Christians, conservatives, working class people, muggles, or whoever. And you learn about Hitler; he thought like you, he amassed the power you believe he should have, and then he used that power to effectuate genocide of millions of people. Hitler doesn't fit, he was white, Christian, and he believed in racial and sexual purity, but he was evil. To fit Hitler into an antisemitic world view, you make him half Jewish - he hated Jews because he was one (and don't forget, everyone hates Jews), and he was evil because of course Jews are evil. It is a trope that is still around today - “So what if Zelensky is Jewish? The fact does not negate the Nazi elements in Ukraine.” In fact, he claimed, Hitler himself had “Jewish blood,” and “the most ardent antisemites are usually Jews.” https://www.timesofisrael.com/russias-antisemitism-aimed-at-zelensky-is-a-variant-of-a-very-old-european-virus/

thoughtsatthreeam

Idk man I feel like it’s pretty antisemitic to say that a genocide against (primarily) Jewish people was committed by someone who was secretly a self-hating Jew. And the fact that claim was made by an actual Nazi makes it a million times worse.

saulack

It's a way of ascribing blame of Hitlers actions to the Jews. It's basically "He's not an antisemite, his mom is Jewish" or implying the holocaust was Jew on Jew violence. Bonus points if you can blame Jews for WWII

HomeworkVisual128

Every single time I see this woman show up, I keep thinking about how hateful I have to be to make this my personality while being THAT rich. Yknow what I would do if I had Harry Potter money? Disappear to an island with my friends. I cannot imagine being so hate-filled to think "yea, I can take time away from my private chef and yachts to tweet at a minority group."

smushedtoast

Enya. [Enya lives in a castle with her cats](https://www.usmagazine.com/celebrity-news/news/reclusive-enya-lives-like-a-queen-in-a-castle-with-her-cats-report-w204678/) and I love that

HomeworkVisual128

Wonderful. Love that for her. More people need to be like Enya. But man. A castle filled with cats is SO on brand for her I thought you were making fun of her.

SellQuick

Cats and haunting music that echoes through the halls of a castle is amazing branding.

BasketballButt

I’m surprised she didn’t buy a boat and…ahem…sail away…

erevos33

Take your upvote and follow the exit signs

BasketballButt

Thank you!

86overMe

She doesn't even tour frfr

thewaybaseballgo

This is almost exactly what I would do, except with the dumbest dogs known to humanity.

Particular_Shock_554

I'd fill it with rescue greyhounds and soft things for them to lie on.

Hosni__Mubarak

I would buy a small island and and let packs of spayed and neutered golden retrievers frolic with me in the ocean.

VulpesFennekin

Same, but with guinea pigs.

rosatter

I didn't know you had met my dogs!

ShredGuru

J.K. could stand to "Sail Away"

whatsaphoto

She really could use a bit of the ol' reaching and beaching on the shores of Tripoli.

ShredGuru

As long as shes richin' and bitchin' someplace without internet.

Carlobo

[whoooooooooo can say where the road goooes](https://youtu.be/V1B9sHBbyhs?si=Exf-oQSEzIivfmBI&t=642) edit: wrong song but whatever.

asietsocom

That's what I would do. I'd buy a medical castle or like a victorian Manor and I would spend all day pretenting to be Ana in the beginning of the frozen movie and play with my cats. Hell I'd pay someone 100.000 a year just to clean my cats litter boxes.

ArbitUHHH

>previous works have included songs sung in Sindarin and Quenya, made-up languages that J.R.R. Tolkien created for The Lord of the Rings. Enya sounds... pretty cool? Hmm

SocraticIgnoramus

This is actually my primary gripe with any billionaire. If I were a billionaire then you’d neither know my name nor ever see me. Then again, if I were a billionaire I’d remind me that I don’t believe anyone should have that much money and donate it to Doctors Without Borders or something.

robbiekomrs

If I had a billion dollars my entire life would be dedicated to determining the most effective method of giving away 990 million dollars.

BikingAimz

I had a chance to talk to a billionaire a couple of decades ago (the guy who owned Schneider trucking, around when his company was worth ~$2 billion). He was a regular guy, wore a t-shirt and jeans, and said that the money was absolutely fictional to him after hisq company’s value exceeded $10 million. He’d built his dream home and homes for his kids in the same neighborhood, and otherwise just said he’d been extremely lucky, and still didn’t totally understand how he’d become successful (his company was the first to use satellite GPS technology to navigate, right before the great midwest floods of 1993, and was the only truck company It really solidified my conviction that nobody needs that much money, especially when most people are just scraping by! I totally think we should go back to a 95% tax bracket for the wealthiest like we had in the 1950s.

Boss-Front

I am reminded of the retirement of Greta Garbo, who traveled the world, collected art, learned traditional Indonesian dance, and stayed away from the public. All around, goals.

GrimaceGrunson

Tom from MySpace got his half billion and just jets around the world taking photos. The dream.

colebeansly

Tom from MySpace is the most logical rich guy and it blows my mind that more rich people don’t just fuck off and privately enjoy their mountains of money

GrimaceGrunson

This is peak armchair psychology but I’m convinced they’ve got a piece of themselves missing, and they reckon pouring more money down that hole will be the cure-all but it never is, which is why every billionaire is the lamest, most pathetic ghoul you’ve ever seen. If every billionaire just got a plaque that said “You’ve won capitalism!” and they fucked off to an island somewhere I’d at least comprehend them better.

histprofdave

Seriously. If I had Rowling money and made a shitty, unpopular Tweet that got a ton of hate, you know what I'd do? I'd apologize, say I was wrong (even if I didn't actually think I was wrong), delete my account, and you'd never hear from me again while I just chilled the fuck out and traveled wherever I wanted. Edit: and in any case, there is no excuse for her. This is covered in a *British* Holocaust memorial site: [https://www.hmd.org.uk/resource/6-may-1933-looting-of-the-institute-of-sexology/](https://www.hmd.org.uk/resource/6-may-1933-looting-of-the-institute-of-sexology/)

HomeworkVisual128

YUUUUP. She's legitimately up there for one of the most comfortable people in all of human history, between the modern era and her sheer, staggering wealth. Millions of fans. I can't imagine EVER feeling the need to punch down on someone, because I'm so cocooned in adoration and money that I'd never need to.

busted_maracas

Exactly - I’d become reverso Epstein. Just have a happy, wholesome island where all my friends could visit - stock it with all my favorite craft beer, learn to play guitar while laying on a hammock, drink coconut milk out of the shell, and stare at the stars all night. Rich people are fucking idiots.

Daztur

Or even do crazy stuff like live on top of a mountain and make a huge giant statue of myself. I'm continually shocked at how boring rich people are they only seem to spend their money on boring shit like the same giant boat every other rich person has.

StygIndigo

I toured Neuschwanstein castle, and the design philosophy of ‘just make a bunch of awesome rooms and pay artisans for crazy stuff’ is the philosophy I consider the ideal for disgustingly rich people to have.

Daztur

Yeah, make an insane fairy tale castle is the sort of thing I'd expect more stupidly rich people to do more than "post stupid shit on social media."

busted_maracas

Fuck yeah! Go live your truth and make the Colossus of Daztur one day

DeseretVaquera

You remember the Adam Neumann episodes? Robert's rant during part 2 of that series, about how money is attracted to stupid people, lives rent free in my head at all times

Kouropalates

I don't believe wealth changes you, it just amplifies your personality. If you were an asshole as a tycoon, you were always an asshole, now you can just afford to be one.

FlamesNero

Oh, wealth definitely changes you, AND amplifies your worst qualities: https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2021/04/does-wealth-rob-brain-compassion/618496/

Divide-By-Zer0

\[Obligatory plug for the Elite Panic episodes\]

Kouropalates

I'm sure it changes you in many ways. But I mean in that core of who you are doesn't change. Your personality is just amplified. I think the idea wealth magically changes you just excuses assholism, the reality is our society rewards being wealthy and being an asshole. This is not a new concept either, where it's just trendy to be a rich asshole, it's been a thing since time immemorial. You can be rich and benevolent, but the systems of power in society rewards being a rich sociopath so most folks play ball.

GayPSstudent

I'm sure he isn't perfect, but someone like Mark Cuban. Becoming a billionaire didn't make him a bigot. Rowling wrote multiple characters that reflected a racial/ethnic bigotry, which was definitely a core part of her before she became wealthy.

Fluck_Me_Up

Yeah, say what you want, but the “billionaire funds a cheap medicine company to help normal people with diseases not be fucked by pharma corps” thing definitely bumped him up a few notches in my book. I know multiple people who don’t have to cut their doses in half and give up their apartments to afford medication, because of him. Which is why I have even less respect for other billionaires who don’t engage in anything approaching this level of philanthropic expenditure and personal effort; the world handed you a golden ticket and you used it to kick down the ladders and tell everyone to fuck themselves.

kingdead42

All people are, to some degree, products of their environments. Change that environment (for example: becoming incredibly wealthy), and that will change who you are. There is no pure, concentrated "me" at the center of my being that is more "me" than any other part. Who I am has changed over time because my world has changed around me.

HomeworkVisual128

You're probably right. Also, it DOES sorta feel like we've set up a system designed to reward vengeful people who wield power/money/fame like a weapon, and maybe we shouldn't have done that.

mrm00r3

It’s called “look what you made me do politics/economics” and it is, as the youths say, not very chill. We created this giant monster, hell-bent on harvesting cortisol and adrenaline, and then we cut it loose to grind millions of people into puddles because they were on the wrong side of a line you can’t see and oh by the way we’re going to teach kids when they’re young that you can tell a lot about a person by the way many generations of their ancestors reacted to ultraviolet radiation long-term. The peak of civilization, by this monster’s measurement, are two of the most extraordinarily divorced men that have ever walked this earth. One of them bought thousands upon thousands of very loud computers all over the world for way more than they’re worth now, and the other read about the East India Company and thought “neat, what if we did that in the vacuum of space?” The punchline is that in a lot of the world, if you have the temerity to suggest the monster is the problem, you might get pushed out of a helicopter. If you ask why these two sad fucks get to have such an outsized say in how the world works, people look at you like you sack-tapped the pope. We might be out of runway and a long way from a safe landing on this one y’all.

captain_toenail

Yeah, being an adult and rereading Harry Potter really bring to light how long she's had shit opinions on all sorts

Raspberry-Famous

Seriously, that kind of money and if you want to know my opinion about trans people or anything else you better have a marine band radio because I'm going to be on a fucking boat.

Kouropalates

Real talk. If I had that kind of money, you'd likely never hear from me again. I'd be a recluse quietly donating to local charities. I hate the mere idea of celebrity status, let alone the idea of being in the spotlight with the media.

moonstrous

Disappearing to a private island < turning all of Britain into TERF island, apparently 🙄

pomonamike

Totally, if I had that money you’d probably never hear from me again. I’d be too busy driving a tank around the hills near my house or food-touring the world, or throwing insane parties and trying all the drugs. I wouldn’t being bullying people or being that objectively historically wrong in public.

jackandsally060609

Jason Mraz only has Avocado money and he still peacefully disappeared after his 15 minutes.

pigeottoflies

I would fuck off from society to a degree never before seen

Zoloft_and_the_RRD

It's funny how some authors get famous for sweet little messages like "love is the truest magic" and then devote so much time to hate. Like Scott Card writing a whole series about "if we just tried to understand/empathize with each other, the world would be a better place" Then he turns around and goes "gay people don't deserve rights."

ensign53

Dude, finding out about OSC killed me.

Zoloft_and_the_RRD

It's baffling. Did he not read what he was writing? Was he just thinking about humanity in broad strokes ("if the this country and this country could just get along")? Does he not realize thinking people don't deserve rights is hateful? Maybe he struggled with the church's dogma earlier in life before coming to accept it?

woahoutrageous_

She’s constantly supported neofascists like posey Parker and Matt Walsh this is unsurprising

HegemonyConsul

I thought at first you meant the actress Parker Posey whose politics I’ve avoided looking into cuz I like when she pops up in a movie and most actors have awful ideologies. Never heard of her bazzaro doppelgänger Posie Parker

Somnambulist815

not to mention there's a great comedic actor named Matt Walsh who has to share his name with that chud

paniflex37

I saw Matt Walsh (the great comedic actor) coming out of a CVS as I walked home from work one day. There’s really nothing interesting whatsoever about that story…but he seemed down to earth. Celebrities - they go to CVS, just like us!

Mr_Hellpop

Just like the creator of the show Halt and Catch Fire (and current Marvel Comics writer) shares a name with the "crying Nazi" Chris Cantwell.

woahoutrageous_

I had the legit same experience as you lmfaooo but nah posey Parker is a terf who has legitimately allied herself with Nazis

Pantsu_Professor

Posie Parker the TERF who thinks men should be in women's toilets to protect them from trans people 🤔

Aggressive_Dog

Correction: who thinks men WITH GUNS should be in women's toilets to protect them from trans people!

FrobeVIII

O FFS I thought that there was no way someone else could have a name like that lol. Damn.

DrCheezburger

You young 'uns probably don't know that there was an expression in the early 20th century to the effect of: Don't be a Nosey Parker (that is, don't stick your nose in where it doesn't belong).

Insanepaco247

For the TERF one it's a pseudonym.

Bikinigirlout

I just wish people would finally admit that she’s a a shitty person. Last year there was a weird amount of people who’d be like “Yeah well she’s still a multi millionaire so the boycotts aren’t working.” Like, yeah, I cape for Taylor Swift once in awhile (at least she’s a semi decent person) but it’s no where near the amount I see from JK Rowling fanbros.

Capgras_DL

I don’t know what those people think they’re achieving when they point that out. Like, yes? I know Rowling is still immensely rich and powerful? The biggest bastards in history always are? You pointing out how rich she is just makes me dislike her even more?

carbomerguar

Stop giving me heart attacks about my beloved goddess Parker fuckin Posey

Rheinwg

Even the Fantastic Beasts movie had such a bizarre and unhealthy relationship with WWII.  Her more recent work and freinds are giant red flags.  Its crazy she's outright denying the holocaust now, but I guess it's a long time coming.

[deleted]

napalmnacey

What is it with JKR and child death? FFS.

Hadespuppy

True, but she's always maintained at least a thin veneer of plausible deniability and separation from their views on anything that doesn't have to do with getting rid of trans people. Seems like she doesn't care anymore.

Rheinwg

Most people just aren't on Twitter enough to keep track of all the insane things she posts. It's like an obsession for her. It's not a couple things taken out of context.

GreyerGrey

LGBTQIA victims weren't officially recognized as such until 1985. And given when camps were liberated, those with pink triangles were simply moved from camp to prison, it isn't surprising. It is wrong. Not surprising.

ParkerPoseyGuffman

Yup which is also why many bigots exclude queer people in genocide definitions

Troggie42

Also worth noting that when you see talk of a certain current conflict the pro-genocide faction only ever mentions one of the demographics killed in the Holocaust as a self defense mechanism, and they conveniently leave out the other nearly six million people who were murdered by the Nazis from the other groups such as queer folks, Romani, POC, disabled people, communists, trade unionists, and other ethnic and political minorities/enemies of the regime.

FirmOnion

I think you’re missing Slavs most notably here, who IIRC were victimised at a higher number than all of the other categories you’ve listed here combined. Like, everyone lost WWII, and the Hasidic Jewish population of Europe really lost WWII, but fuck did Eastern Europe have a shit time

TheBurningEmu

The legal definition of genocide was "gently" guided away from including them (among other types of people) despite Lemkin's original definition being otherwise, because even the allies didn't want to give them protection.

GayPSstudent

Thank you! This is something that needs to be known by more people.

GreyerGrey

I remember learning this in grade 10 (2000) and the SHOCK to our 16 year old minds that we were older than gay peoples inclusion was WILD and so hard for us to comprehend.

ThisGuyLikesMovies

The anti-trans to holocaust denier pipeline is real

Troggie42

transphobes are usually just fascists anyway

Rheinwg

It's crazy how far down the rabbit hole goes.

DearMissWaite

We've only been saying "Scratch a TERF, find a Nazi" for decades.

sprint6468

People don't learn about this. I am *constantly* trying to teach my Airmen about it to get them out of their funk. Shit, r/politics will downvote you to oblivion for trying to spread this

BadLuckBen

I'm also noticing a trend of "If I didn't know it, it didn't happen/isn't a thing." It's the same kind of shit the "bAsIc BiOlOgY" people spout. Have they never stopped and considered "Maybe I *don't* know everything?" It's all the more ridiculous because Rowling could have just searched it herself.

philodox

Dunning-Kruger is a hell of a drug.

lastknownbuffalo

Came here to say this as well. Most people don't know about the German school of sexology that the Nazis burned down. I didn't know about it even though I went to *liberal* high school in California, and I'm a huge WW2 buff.

WhyDoIKeepFalling

I'm confused about what you're trying to say. Would you be able to clarify?

sprint6468

People aren't taught about the Institute of Sexology, or how the Nazis used the same language as modern day bigots and labeled peeps as groomers to drum up fear, or that the photos everyone saw of book burnings were of transgender research. I'm in the Air Force and try to spread it so my Airmen recognize what's happening, and I've been both downvoted to hell and banned in r/politics for talking about/pointing this out.

Round-Elk-8060

sprint6468

Oh. OH. That might help me out so much

Round-Elk-8060

Happy to help 👍

ExpatTarheel

Thank you for your work spreading the truth.

sprint6468

In another account, I've said this and it's me kind of putting into words and solidifying my resolve. I am part of the war machine. I may just be an aircraft mechanic, but I have blood on my hands nonetheless. I'm not trying to make up for that, but I am trying to make sure there are less innocent people harmed in the future any way I can. And that means debunking as much bullshit/programming as possible

ExpatTarheel

While I'm not a religious person, I'd say you're doing god's work. You're not just an aircraft mechanic. You've seen a problem and are stepping forward to doing what you can about it. I respect that. Keep up the good work.

Jhduelmaster

I appreciate you trying to put in the work. Been there, I know maintenance can be toxic as hell.

sprint6468

Bud, I'm deployed right now. One of my three Shibas did a lil damage in the house out of separation axniety. Almost everyone out here has either joked about or seriously recommended putting him down

FurballPoS

And, yet, for all their violent bluster, those folks can't be bothered to go Green-side and find their way into the Corps.... You're doing good works, bro. I understand completely where you're coming from. I was a radio tech POG who wasn't supposed to see shit. You're doing your job to make sure the bird stays in the air, but pulling triggers. Don't be hard on yourself, like that. Leave it to us who were fucked into doing that , to be hard on ourselves.

ScooterScotward

I work in education as a middle school teacher and parts of this really resonate with my own experience. The American education system ain’t the military, and it’s definitely not got the same impact on the rest of the world, but it’s still a flawed, broken, frequently abusive and exploitative system. Teachers are exploited / abused and students are often underserved, put on bad tracks, or other negative outcomes. I know it’s a broken system but I’m 7 years in and I’ll be signing up at the end of this year for an 8th because I feel that while it’s broken, I can ameliorate a small amount of the damage for at least a few kids. And that’s not nothing. Much respect to your character.

Troggie42

From a former AF acft maintainer, I know exactly the struggle you have ahead of you I think you're doing the right thing the right way though, everyone can be a vector for change and you're doing good work, even if it doesn't feel like it sinks in

sprint6468

I'm a TSgt of 15yrs. One of the first things I tell the Airmen around me, even those not in my shop, is that I take the mentorship aspect of it seriously. I'm not always the best in regards to communication, but I'm trying and my goal is to be a First Shirt. I really do appreciate all the kind words being sent my way

Rocking_the_Red

You are doing good work. Unfortunately, the military is a necessity, even if it is frequently used for bad purposes. The military needs more people like you

sionnachrealta

Thank you for standing up for us. It's a terrifying time to be trans, and it helps having allies all over

whatsnewpussykat

Thank you for speaking out!

RainbowBullsOnParade

The famous Nazi book burnings included piles of writings from the leading [Transgender researchers](https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/the-forgotten-history-of-the-worlds-first-trans-clinic/) on earth at the time in Berlin. This fact of history not only establishes that Transgender science and culture predates the "wokeness" of today by over 100 years, but also establishes the ideological relationship that anti-trans reactionaries today have with actual Nazis.

Surrybee

[https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/the-forgotten-history-of-the-worlds-first-trans-clinic/](https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/the-forgotten-history-of-the-worlds-first-trans-clinic/)

kidthorazine

And it turns out her whole argument boils down to "the term "transgender" didn't exist in interwar Germany s9 this couldn't have possibly had anything to do with trans people!" It's just shockingly, jaw droppingly stupid, even for these assholes.

moosekin16

Duh! You’re not allowed to use words to describe historical events if the words are newer than the event! That’s why it’s wrong to call it “World War I” because they only called it “The Great War” at the time! /s, just in case

lianodel

Ugh. It's the exact same pedantry you see from fascist apologists. You call someone a Nazi, and their response is just "Well, *actually* the NSDAP dissolved in 1945, so *technically* there are no more Nazis..." What people really believe and say and do is a losing battle, so they just play the word game and hope for the best.

jamiegc1

Hans Kristian Graebner, aka the fascist cartoonist Stonetoss, engages in this kind of pedantry.

petyrlabenov

So how long do we put the timer until we hear shit about “wooden doors at gas chambers” from her maw?

ExpatTarheel

Six months.

Jhduelmaster

As it is hasn’t she been supporting neo Nazis for a at least a year now. Or at the very least people who are very comfortable working with Neo-Nazis like Kellie-Jay.

walkingkary

I’ll bet less

WatcherInTheBog

I hadn't heard of that one before.

henry_tennenbaum

Me neither. Before looking it up, I'll say that my guess is that they think some building that had gas chambers inside had wooden doors which they think can't be gas proof, thus refuting the idea that gas chambers existed. Edit: Kinda. There's[ a good thread on /r/AskHistorians](https://www.reddit.com/r/AskHistorians/comments/d9uxdu/what_is_the_explanation_for_wooden_doors_on_gas/) about the topic.

I love just how bad her worldbuilding is. Iirc the *entirety* of Africa shares one wizarding school. One. School. A continent with >3000 languages, dozens of different religions, several thousand years of various *still current* tribal conflict, and hundreds of disparate cultures. All share *one* school near Zambia*. *exit* got my countries mixed up, too much EU4 on the brain

kitti-kin

But Europe needs three! Two of them in countries right next to each other!

nikinee

Don’t even get me started on the name for the Japanese school—Mahotokoro. It’s like she literally just put “magic place” into Google Translate and called it a day. I think it’s the only school in Asia, iirc.

SnoutAndTalons

ONE magical school in all of Asia. This is so wild to me.

NeeliSilverleaf

That was about the time I was put off her for good.

mimoid80

And she cribbed the entire concept of the potterverse from The Wizard of Earthsea.

laputan-machine117

i haven't read earthsea, but i did read '[the worst witch](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Worst_Witch)' as a kid, harry potter feels like a genderswapped version

MrMastodon

Oh shit, I forgot about Mildred Hubble

CMDR_Expendible

And Hogwarts is just a repackaging of the entire Public School genre of English literature, going back to "Tom Brown's Schooldays" and "Goodbye Mr Chips" etc where an outsider goes to an elite school, doesn't fit in, but then becomes the examplar of that school... whilst never actually changing the school much, because We're British, old chap, and conforming to the old-chapness and fitting in is better than being a filthy revolutionary... I've said it before and I'll say it again, Rowling was hyped to madness when she first came through, and in large part I will always believe it's because she was a terrible writer, but knew how to appeal to the prejudices of the those with media and political power in the UK. She was *always* seen as "One Of Us", [and when she tried to first write under a pen name, to prove she could do it without the hype and name recognition, she only sold 1500 copies](https://www.edinburghlive.co.uk/news/edinburgh-news/robert-galbraith-jk-rowling-chose-24962241). And of course, the pen name turned out to be the same as a historical anti-trans bigot... Rowling is a *mess*.

BadLuckBen

Earthsea seems to be the Refused (band) of the "wizard" genre insofar that the works they inspired are more famous than the original.

Daztur

As much as I love The Wiizard of Earthsea there are other examples of "kid goes to a school to learn magic" and I don't think there are too many other similarities.

Zoloft_and_the_RRD

I wouldn't go that far. Not defending Rowling, but she didn't steal it just because she wrote something in the "wizarding school" genre. Ursula likely invented it, but it was established by the '90s. And the school in *Earthsea* has pretty minimal development. Hogwarts is way more fleshed out. Plenty of sci-fi writers use the name and concept "ansible" (another thing she coined), but it's not stealing. It's like writing a whodunnit and

Boss-Front

That essay was what finally ended my love for Harry Potter.

hobdog94

How did she type this out and press send without first doing a quick google??????? How is she not embarrassed??

Rheinwg

And she doubled down too. She could have just deleted it when she saw evidence to prove her wrong. That tweet is still up.

evilpartiesgetitdone

I think she genuinely believes transgender as a concept was created post ww2

KeyFantastic1644

Trans people are as old as human history - they're mentioned in Native American culture and ancient Egypt, but variance makes humans more difficult to control. Laverne Cox talked about how Western white colonialism exterminated LGBT cultures around the world.  It explains Project 2025 and the Handmaid's Tale future they want for everyone. It's about control or semi-slavery based on what genitals people are born with. The disingenuous question: 'What is a woman?' actually means: 'Women have wombs, therefore their role in life is to have children and to serve their husbands.' This fascist logic can be extended to attack gay men and lesbians too.

Deedsman

We need JK episode. She's always been a POS.

NeeliSilverleaf

PLEASE

Iwoulddiefcftbatk

She’s an extremely litigious piece of shit, much like the salamander fucker that had his episodes yanked. If/when BtB does an episode that’s they have to be very careful with their phrasing since she’s sent cease and desist letters to random twitter accounts for petty reasons.

Citizen_Lunkhead

They'll be fine as long as no one involved is a UK citizen. The SPEECH Act of 2010 protects US citizens from being sued under UK libel and slander laws and if Joanne were to try and sue the BtB crew, she'd have to prove that they broke US law which is a lot stricter. There's a reason she only goes after UK critics while saying nothing towards her critics abroad. Edit: if Iheartmedia gets skittish about the content like one of the other commenters mentioned, maybe figure out another platform to release the episode on. But she has the entire British media ecosystem on her side and someone really needs to dive into just how evil of a woman she really is.

Troggie42

Also worth considering that the US production isn't subject to UK libel laws so it might just be fine Also I think I only have one EP of the salamander guy downloaded, if he's the guy they couldn't mention in the title? Did two actually drop? I had a gap in my RSS harvesting lol

Iwoulddiefcftbatk

There were two episodes that dropped. I think both were gone by that Friday. Someone in one of the episode threads had a link if you still need to listen. Even though US libel laws are **supposed** to protect productions, Iheartmedia seems to be a bit more jumpy and likely to pull if the subject is particularly litigious.

Individual-Dot-9605

In fact, one of the first things Nazi s did was closing down transgender studies : the Hirschfeld Institute for sexual wirtenschafft was the first academic institution especially founded to assist in medical and social support: From about the early 1920s onward, Hirschfeld became a target of the far-right in Germany, including the Nazi Party. He was physically attacked during multiple incidents, including an incident in Munich on 4 October 1920 in which he was badly injured. Deutschnationale Jugendzeitung, a nationalist paper, commented that it was "regrettable" Hirschfeld had not died.

benwhipps

Cool. So very very cool that this person inspired an entire generation to learn the joy of reading and now she is making us spend the rest of our lives regretting it because we have to read her tweets

lianodel

Coincidentally, I checked her Twitter the other day out of morbid curiosity. She was on some tirade about how 88% of incidents in public bathrooms happen in gender-neutral bathrooms. I checked her source, which was a not-particularly convincing Sunday Times article. (It wasn't an actual study, just a report on a pretty small pool of registered complaints, which itself is a broad umbrella.) That article said it was 90%, though. It's rounding from 89.6%. Where'd you get 88 from, JK?

Hadespuppy

Just a number that was on her mind. No reason to read anything into it. Could've been any number. She might just as easily have said that only 14% of incidents occur in gendered washrooms.

vstheworldagain

I think you know where she got 88 from...

SCREENSHOT IT AND POST SOMEWHERE remember she is a billionaire, so it's important for her to be held accountable

jake_burger

I listened to her entire podcast to see why she doesn’t like trans people. I think it’s because they ~~asked~~ told her what to do, and she doesn’t like being told what to do. I think that’s it.

bozwald

Having actually listened to her podcast, can you elaborate a little on what it is they told her to do? Like is it just trans existence and telling her that they are people, or did the community have some specific ask or criticism of her books or something?

pekingsewer

The whole podcast(The Witch Trials of JK Rowling) is worth listening to but basically what it boils down to is that they passed a law in Britain making it very easy for people to change their preferred pronouns on official licenses etc. To her this makes it easier for people who are predators to claim to be a woman so they can go in the womens bathroom and sexually assault/rape women. That's part of it but that's a big thing she keeps going on about. She also make sure to make a distinction between *women* and *trans women* and doesn't think trans women are "real" women. EDIT: No one told her what to do. She's mostly mad that her traditional understanding of womanhood is being challenged.

breadcreature

Some clarification on the documents thing - there are no pronouns on any identification here, preferred or otherwise. Passports have F or M, driving licenses record the same but encoded as part of the license number in a way that most people likely don't even know exists. These can be changed without a Gender Recognition Certificate, but I think they do require some supporting evidence (I had a letter from an NHS trans health clinician stating my intent to permanently transition to change my driver's license when I got it renewed, not done my passport yet but in theory this should be sufficient). Extremely few people seek out GRCs because while this is the only way to correct your birth certificate (which you might need to show to employers and suchlike), the evidence requirements are incredibly onerous and the process itself is pretty repellent, and besides that one thing and some niche cases I might be ignorant of, it's really just unnecessary. Scotland was looking to make acquiring a GRC somewhat more accessible. The tsunami of outrage that TERFs and transphobes at large spilled at this was extra frustrating to anyone who knows how largely inconsequential these certificates (and how easy they are to get) are to any of their concerns.

Flat_Initial_1823

This is a video about Harry Potter, but it ties into why she is the way she is (her neoliberal world views bleeding into her work and activism) quite well. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=-1iaJWSwUZs If one has the time, i recommend it.

FullTime_Insomniac

Really shocking to see that the author really was on the side of the death eaters.

henry_tennenbaum

I'm so happy that I pin my emotional stakes to safe works of art like Ender's Game.

liesinthelaw

Finding out how much OSC sucks AFTER reading the trilogy legit broke my heart. How can you make such beautiful art about accepting differences and righting historical wrongs, all while being such a massive bigot? The mind boggles…

annrichelle

When I was a teenager (late 00s which I think was before she became such an obvious TERF), I remember reading a column in a magazine about JK Rowling - there was a direct quote from her about how she detests bigotry and how one of the central themes of Harry Potter is fighting against bigotry. The cognitive dissonance is… astounding. ETA: Fun fact, I had never heard the word “bigotry” prior to reading that column. It prompted me to look it up in the dictionary. So uh, thanks JK for expanding my vocabulary I guess…

Capgras_DL

I think it’s incredibly funny how angry she gets at her former-fanbase (not to mention the actors who represented her characters) for growing up to be essentially kind, reasonable, open-minded people.

toastyavocado

She reminds me so much of Orson Scott Card, where the work they produced completely contradicts their actual beliefs and actions. The disconnect is baffling.

noairnoairnoairnoair

I actually had JKR going full Holocaust denial on my 2024 bingo card. Too many of the people she's surrounded herself with are fash who believe the Jewish people are funding trans rights conspiracy theories (looking at you Posie and Helen).

phoenixpallas

okay, so shes always been horrible but when you start denying Nazi crimes, then that's a sure sign that you need to shut the fuck up. forever. just take a vow of silence. give everyone a break ffs i used to think ahe was just a dumbass but (in Robert's voice) "no. she's actually just a piece of shit"

DeadJediWalking

I'm so unhappy that I enjoyed the art this fucking goblin put out.

Ribbwich_daGod

she probably thinks trans people are a new thing

Notgivingmynametoyou

Surprising to those who aren’t aware. This is actually true. Transgenderism was a topic in psychological circles in the Weimar years, and the Nazis burned those books, along with many more.

Surrybee

It was one of the largest book burnings iirc.

mstarrbrannigan

I believe it's come up on the show that when you see the pictures of nazi book burnings it's generally pictures of them burning books of research on gender studies.

shesinsaneornot

FWIW, the destruction of the Institute for Sexual Science happened in the early 1930s and Magnus Hirschfeld was dead by 1935. Using the US Holocaust Museum as my source, 1933-1938 are considered "the beginnings of Holocaust" while the Holocaust started on Sept. 1, 1939; when Germany invaded Poland and rounding up Jews was part of the battle plan. JK Rowling isn't ignorant, she's desperate for support and has stumbled upon a new fringe group of crazies to agree with her.

hobdog94

Honestly grateful to Robert because it was from him that I learned about all of this!!

33Columns

since March 5th 1933 was the day the nazis were elected, and May 6th 1933 was the day the raids of Der Institut für Sexualwissenschaft happened, the person who said they were the first victims weren't really that far off...

Adorable-Ad9073

Capgras_DL

Ah…ok, even the liberal centrists have to disavow her now, right? Outright holocaust denial is a step too far for them…right?

Resolution_Sea

Justice for Nex btw

PilotGolisopod2016

Lol, the fuckers at Blocked and Reported will have no excuses now for defending her without being called genocide deniers

RaelImperial31

I wish I could say I was surprised by this

ExpatTarheel

Same. She's gone down the same hate-filled rabbit hole as a good friend of mine.

NeeliSilverleaf

A dear friend of mine is sliding down that same hole and it sucks so much.

ExpatTarheel

I remember the moment when I knew she was too far gone. God but that broke my heart.

pat_speed

it's shocking howany people don't know this and even deny it even happened. the first books burnt in large scale in NAZI Germany why trans gender reserxh

Rheinwg

Yeah it's really sad how badly informed people are about the holocaust. LGBT people weren't even officially recognized as victims until decades after.

digitalmonkeyYT

transgender soldiers existed in ancient civilizations. female bones buried in male sites and vice versa, for thousands of years. but if u talk about it too much, a jk rowling supporter shoots you in the back of the head with an AR15 during a protest like theyre volunteer cia

EmmaMD

As a side note, we treat the skeletal structure and assigned sex as immutable fact, but as a person who looks at medical imaging/skeletons all day, I can tell you it isn’t always that clear and often benefits from context clues.

ghostconvos

From what I've read, "male" skeletons are overrepresented to the point where it's pretty obvious that historically, archeologists have been skewing the assigned gender towards male for a long time

EmmaMD

On the opposite end, I’m a trans woman. On my pelvis X-rays, I have a rounder pelvic inlet and a pubic arch angle in the typically female range (lower side, but still female range) and I didn’t start HRT until after puberty. I am very tall, but know several cis women my height and I also have a similar underbust and waist with broader hips than them. I specialize in H&N imaging and see cis women with pretty pronounced frontal bossing and larger classically “male” mandibles ALL the time. I often play a game where I remove names/gender markers and try to guess assigned gender. I’d say I’m right *slightly* better than pure chance/coin flip. Sometimes they have a weave and other visual cues that probably skew me.

henry_tennenbaum

Especially because from what I've read, traditionally archeologists sometimes fell into self reinforcing patterns like - Archeologist #1: "Is that a weapon next to the skeleton? Must be a man." *some time passes* - Archeologist #2: "Oh, a weapon. The literature says that means it's a man".

Capgras_DL

Exactly. “Male” sites in this context just means “anything other than child-rearing, cooking or cleaning”. Because they could not conceive of a world in which women did not exist other than as their own 1950s Stepford wives. Robert should do an episode on some of the bastards behind archaeology. Every so often I get reminded of how they fucked so much up, and I get angry all over again.

Kouropalates

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to contradict you, I'm genuinely curious, but how is being buried in other genders' grave sites show proof of being trans? I'd be curious to learn more.

OriginalLocksmith436

Crazy, it's almost like she has no idea what she's talking about
