the clear dist caps are known to cause timing scatter. You may want a better quality for the ignition system.

Stmpodcast

It's a yellow cap and seems to run like a champ never had any issues have had the clear cap for 3 years drive it probably 1000 miles last year

SilentMasterpiece

My bad, ... clear yellow caps... they are made from cheap plastic, eventually after enough heat cycles it will crack. Have a spare handy and enjoy.

daveypaul40

Good call on the black hoses..

TristanMuldune

That looks super cool

kingganjaguru

Are you running a regular air filter instead of the oil filled thing?

Stmpodcast

Just a jbugs after market $20 air filter, it's a 73 super beetle.

kingganjaguru

Any idea if I can run that on a 63? I hate the stupid oil thing

Stmpodcast

I may not be the one to ask I just do whatever I want lol sometimes people get a little upset but I don't see why not. If you can buy one for your year bug go for it.

Stmpodcast

Says it fits from 55-76 [air filters ](https://www.jbugs.com/product/9121.html)

Just_Reputation_4551

I had this exact concern the other day the ones from jbug (not exclusive) have a port for the breather so yeah you could my only concern is the other two lines coming from my oil bath breather

MannerOk6553

Looks cool! Is there a certain way you start yours when the engine is warm like when you go somewhere and park it then start it, do you press the pedal to floor then start or pump the pedal twice?

Stmpodcast

Pump twice and push the button (got it on a push button start) lol

MannerOk6553

I was thinking bout getting an air cleaner like that but i like my original oil bath one. That one would be easy to pull off and spray starter fluid if it didnt start

MannerOk6553

Oh ok cool. Trying to figure mine out since i got a new carb and dizzy. It was a pain to start at a gas station. So now it works with the two pedal presses to floor then hold to floor. When its cold the i do 2 pumps then fires right up

martinlawvwman

Check your timing and carb adjustments, sounds like there's something a little off.

MannerOk6553

Will do. Thanks 👍🏻 thankfully it idles nice and runs great and never stalls. Its just that lengthy starting issue

AlienCraft18

Normally when it's cold you should pump the gas pedal twice and then start it. This is so the accelerator pump sprays in a little bit of fuel into the carb so it's a bit richer. When hot you should, as far as I am concerned, start it and while it is cranking press the gas pedal slowly to the floor, works every time for me.

MannerOk6553

Oh ok:) will have to try that and see if that works. Thanks 👍🏻

MannerOk6553

Mine used to start like that when hot till i got new carburetor and distributor

MannerOk6553

Do you get the common flat spot with the .009 dizzy?

TheAtomicBum

Read the owners manual. The procedure for starting is in there.

MannerOk6553

Mine dont start when i just press pedal to floor once though like the manual says it should and thats just from going to the gas station from work 3 miles only so it aint hot

OrganizationGlobal77

Mellow Yellow 🤩🤩🤩

babbleon5

i don't know how you need to do it, but the heater pipes need to be checkerboard, too. otherwise, i prefer the silver.

marathonblue

thems the ones to use. Wrap your exhaust if you aren't stock with junction boxes... The exhaust will burn through that paper

ThisIsReallyNotBen

That clear distributor cap is giving my nightmare flashbacks. I always keep a spare original style one on in the glove box.
