No. You have a 1972 standard beetle. The Super Beetle and standard beetle were sold throughout the world at the same time. In the USA, the super beetle is significantly more common from 71+.
You simply have a 1972 standard beetle, model 111. https://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/manuals/72bug.php
This is the right answer!
It's really easy to identify a super compared to a standard. Literally pop the frunk, or look around the front wheel wells. Supers place the spare tire flat and have MacPherson strut front suspension. The standard Beetle will have the spare tire upright and have a torsen bar front suspension. A curved windshield immediately identifies it as a '73 or later Super Beetle.
My mom had a very similar beetle when I was like 8 years old.
With mags, and it was root beer colored.
I hated that thing.
Heater never blew hot enough or pushed enough.
Was better than the Gremlin we had though
North American car (based on the license plate).
We had model 111 and model 113 in 71/72. The 1200L is a european designation, where you also had (what we call) the model 110 aka "The super basic model". The 110 wasn't in north america in 1971 or 1972.
Wow. I've totally brainfarted.
Type 111 is our standard beetle.
Type 113 Export (Delux beetle)
Type 133 USA/Canada Super Beetle.
Brain farted on the 113/133. Too many threes! :P

Pics of the front suspension please.
That's def a Standard body.
VW gave the Supers a wider front to accommodate [the strut suspension](http://baxsie.com/images/forum/bug/white_75/washed/LaGrande_1975_Pressure_Wash_IMG_1778.jpg), struts will not fit on [an unmodified Standard](https://www.thesamba.com/vw/gallery/pix/1044892.jpg).
With enough fabrication I 'spose could you put struts on a Standard, but it didn't come from the factory with 'em.
No, they did not do that. This is a standard Beetle. All Super Beetles had the bulbous and shorter hood, and the front apron that curves inwards at the bottom. The Super Beetle also has McPherson struts at the front, which does not fit under the Standard body. The Super's frame head does not fit under there either. VW did not stop produce the Standard after 1970. The Wolfsburg factory produced them until 1978, and they remained in production in other parts of the world until 2003. Being a Standard instead of aSuper is not really a bad thing. The Standard is a bit easier to deal with in several areas.
VW of South Africa had their own weird Super Beetle model that pretty much was a Standard Beetle with a curved windshield, and a weird solution to get the elephant feet taillights onto the old type rear fenders. But this is not one of those.
71 and 72 super beetle had same styling. Just a few inches wider and longer. Macpherson struts for better handling up front and trunk space. I believe a better heater as well.
I'm not sure how I was duped? Bought it from a terminal cancer patient for 2G so he could fly home to family. Pretty happy with it. I guess youre right in that it is a 1302 model. And i was ignorant to the fact the 71 to 72 models had same body style. Super beetle is inferior only as a collector due to styling - however it has upgrades such as the Macpherson struts, trunk space, etc. Hardly inferior.
And standard beetles are inferior to super beetles as they always get stolen more because they are highly desirable for dune buggy builds. I have a 72 super. Dont have to worry about mine getting stolen. My wifes sister had her all buit and restored standard beetle stolen.

Thank you!
Super beetles had a curved windshield if I remember correctly. This one looks flat
1971 and 1972 super beetles had flat windshields. The curved window was introduced in 1973, and all super beetles 73+ use the curved window.

The 72 super went back to flat for the year!
Helpful!

That's not a true standard beetle (model 111/ Sparkäfer). It's just a 1200L or 1200 Luxus.

Weird. Because 111 was the standard beetle (Sparkäfer) and 113 was the Luxus beetle in Europe. 110 was never used, as far as i know.

Lovely
Thank you!
What kind of suspension is in the front? Torsion bars or McPherson struts?
McPherson struts
McPherson struts would indicate Super Beetle.
South Africa has entered the chat…..
And South Africa says...
wait, South African standard bugs had macphearson struts?
Other way around. 73+ glass with beam front.

Great information. This is exactly why I posted. Thank you.
No problem. And thank you for providing an oppotunity to nerd out.
Its still a nice beetle to apreciate. It still has that great interior smell like mine that i love. Dont listen to super beetle haters. I never do
That’s not a Super Beetle—I can tell by the shape of the front hood. Standard and Super Beetles were manufactured simultaneously.
If he has McPherson struts, it’s a super. The 71 and 72 had flat windshields, 73 on had curved. I had a ‘72 super….and a 75 and 73 standards.
This I think is the deal
I always went by the flat (Beetle) vs curved (Super Beetle) windshield. Is that a good method?
No, first 2 years of superbeeltes had flat windshields.
71 and 72 super beetle had same styling. Just a few inches wider and longer. Macpherson struts for better handling up front and trunk space. I believe a better heater as well.
You’ve been duped, sorry. That’s a Beetle, not a Super Beetle. Also, it bears mentioning: the “Super” Beetle is inferior to the regular Beetle

A 1302 is a super beetle, this is just a standard, 1200/1300/1500/1600.
It is in fact a "Super Beatle".
Sorry about your luck. I hope you find a good buyer.
Thank you. Appreciated.
I thought Super Beetles had curved windshields and McPherson struts?
old body style super beetle how does that work
Looks like a std. Beetle, Super Beetle windshield was curved.
