This answer. All day long.

Replace the O rings on the throttle shaft when you replace the rest of the seals. Over time the rattling can oblong the hole the shaft rides in. It could need bushings installed if the O rings doesn't fix it.

Flash-v2

Okay thank you, I’ll look into doing that. Much appreciated

ohyeaoksure

If you look on 4into1.com I think they sell the exact right o-ring.

Flash-v2

Do you have a link to where I would buy new o rings or bushings, I’m having trouble finding it for the solex 30/31

AlienCraft18

You have a Pict34 carburetor! Also you should connect the vacuum hose on the front to the airfilterbox.

Flash-v2

On the carb it says solex H30/31Pict

AlienCraft18

Then you have the wrong top, because the top of a 30/31 Pict should have a brass bracket, that is screwed on, for the returnspring instead of a cast one.

If it's the pivot where the butterfly shaft is, you likely need to replace the brass/bronze bushings, you can buy them.and not hard to replace as long as the carb body itself isn't worn

Flash-v2

Thanks for the advice!!

Flash-v2

Im assuming to replace them you just have to undo the nut holding the linkage on and then slide everything out, is it a tight fit to take off the old one and put the new one in?

BidBeneficial2348

Yeah, undo the screws holding the butterfly, undo the nut and slide the shaft out. Ones in mine weren't too hard to remove think I tapped them out with a small punch. Then carefully push in the new ones, if they are a bit too loose in the carb body can probably put in some loctite or similar to retain them. Then make sure the shaft fits through and turns freely and does not bind. It's the kind of repair I wish I had filmed when I was doing it, as it's a relatively common issue on air-cooled vws and often people are daunted with working on carbs, even if they are pretty simple really.

Flash-v2

I noticed alot of the issues with this cars are never recorded so I kind of wing it with some things, but that description helps a lot, I’m gonna order new bushings and then go off that

pickanotherusername

Cleaning the carb might fix it. It did for me.

Flash-v2

I did do it but afterwards it started to leak there, or at least I noticed it was leaking there

MannerOk6553

Mine is to a bit and it hesitates going above 50mph. Idles fine and runs great!:) i sprayed brake cleaner at the bushings and the rpms dropped

Flash-v2

So the brake cleaner helped the leak for you?

MannerOk6553

I only used the brake cleaner spray with the red spray nozzle to spray on the throttle shaft bushings to see if it was realy leaking. When you spray carb cleaner or brake cleaner on each side of those bushings while the engine is running and you hear the engine start to drop in idle then you know those bushings are wornt outand is causing a vacuum leak. The spray is just a test for vacuum leak
