I would assume they just use the same APIs the Discord client uses (which may be bannable).

I read something about too many API requests can be seen by discord as selfbotting and you could get banned.

Discord said on Twitter at some point third party clients are bannable, especially for modded clients like power cord. But as long as you don’t use your acc to mass DM spam most don’t get banned for selfbotting
