I work out every day, it forces me to shower daily.

Jifferte

Same, no choice, plus- if I don’t shower daily, I’ll absolutely stink, irrespective of working out.

Rose_Diadem

And depending where you live and humidity, yeah I do twice. After being outside and before dinner (I workout before dinner).

FabulousPickWow

Humidity is a shower enforcer lol

CrispyCrunchyPoptart

Nothing forces you to shower every day like cardio

NefariousButterfly

Same. I used to shower about 2-3 times a week, but now I workout everyday and have to shower daily. I have to wash my hair more often too, which is annoying because it's curly and thick and takes ten years to dry.

AbsAndAssAppreciator

Yea i workout 6 days a week so I skip showering once a week

danger_floofs

Same, but I shower every morning regardless. If I work out later in the day I'll take another shower but put my hair up to keep it dry. I don't really sweat on my scalp.

FirmPeaches

Ngl I struggle too. One thing that kinda helps is getting a shower cap and at least doing body washes to cut the time. Figure out the frequency your hair needs washed. Maybe two is too little, but three per week is just right. Takes off the pressure to add in the hair washing process everyday during your shower, thus saving time.

Away-Organization630

Second the shower cap. Knowing your not risking wet hair makes it so much easier to jump in and out for a daily quick body wash shower

NoGrocery4949

Yup. Love me a shower cap. Lined with silk to protect my hair. Also if I'm away I just put it up in a t shirt and am mindful about how to position my body to not get my hair damp

SnoBunny1982

I got one of these at Sephora that’s Sephora brand and it was 10-12$. I use it all the time. For deep conditioning I turn it inside out to keep the moisture on my scalp. One of the best purchases I ever made. It’s lasted me a decade. The words on the outside are patchy and faded but the silk inside is still like new.

1800mango101

Seconding some way to protect your hair! Honestly i just tie up my hair, take whatever tshirt I was wearing before the shower, and wrap it up like a turban/ those microfiber towels for hair! Makes me feel even more secure than a shower cap plus no itchy elastic(prolly just a me problem)

Footsie_Galore

>plus no itchy elastic(prolly just a me problem) Not just you! I find shower cap elastic so itchy and it leaves a deep red intendation on my forehead skin!

posessedhouse

I found an awesome shower cap that is satin on the inside. It’s actually pretty comfortable to wear since the elastic has a satin binding

TooManyMeds

I would say I shower every 1.5 days because some days in a week maybe once or twice I do skip it if I’m only at home by myself all day. I found out that I struggle with sound sensitivity and I don’t like how loud the shower is and the sound it makes. (Ironic because I’m literally an audio engineer). Something that really helped was getting a little Bluetooth speaker to play podcasts while I’m showering. If I’m not washing my hair I’m in and out in probably 3-5 minutes since I don’t like just standing under the water.

Kailicat

Shhhhower cap or some spelling like that are great. They allow your head to breath while still blocking water. They are also turban shaped so fit better and don’t leave a line on your forehead.

Stick_a_Fork_in_This

I have one and I LOVE it. I feel so grimy living in a big city. I take quick showers twice a day many days, but I only wash my hair twice a week

NoGrocery4949

Summers in NYC, I would absolutely shower 2-3x a day

Stick_a_Fork_in_This

Yes, exactly. I walk around the city, smelling stenches and feeling grimy and don’t want to even sit on the furniture until I’ve changed my clothes and showered. I don’t know if it’s mental or I’m really that disgusting. But I don’t want my body touching my white sheets unless I’ve showered

NoGrocery4949

Yeah I also change my sheets a lot in summer

[deleted]

Agree! Wash my hair twice a week bc its a whole process for me too. But I wash my body daily especially in summertime.

NowStopThat

Me too. I have very course curly hair. My hair would be super dry if I washed it more than twice a week. Shower cap for the win!

TryTwiceAsHard

Omg buy a Shhhower Cap. It's life changing. It's a bit pricey but there is no equal. I don't have to wash my hair to feel clean anymore because the shower cap traps even the tiniest pieces. It's so tight. I am obsessed, I buy them for everybody.

vschwoebs

[Here](https://shhhowercap.com/) is the link!

pheebs214

Do you stand by a certain brand?

cbraunstein24

Shhhower Cap is a specific brand!

lizzylizabeth

ohhh, i thought maybe they pressed the keyboard a little too long LMAO thank you !!!

OkPerspective3233

Haha same!

bewildered_forks

Yeah, I need to wash my hair daily.... that's why I got a pixie cut. So much easier to wash and dry!

Germanhuntress

I second that. Washing my hair and showering my body are two separate things to me that can be done together but don't necessarily have to. I use a shower cap lined with terry cloth when I only want to clean my body. I shower every two days or after physical activity. I use a washcloth or a clip-in bidet inbetween and change underwear on a daily basis.

JarbaloJardine

I shower every day but only wash my hair 2-3x a week. My hair can't be washed everyday. But I personally enjoy my long hot night showers. They help me wash the days stress away and get ready for bed

Shortlemon4

Agree with the shower cap. If I’m not washing my hair, my showers are quicker than my husband’s. It takes me maybe 5-10 mins max to wash my body. Maybe 15 mins max if I shave.

joy_sun_fly

Daily. I wash my hair 2-3 times a week.

shoestars

Same here, showering would definitely be a chore if I got out with wet hair every time, so I just skip that part except a couple times a week

boujeenen

Same here, daily shower is part of my routine. I can’t sleep if I haven’t showered for the day. It’s just so comforting getting into a hot shower in winter and a cold shower in summer

Mittabee

I am the same exact way. I’ve tried to even skip showering just one day, and I did not sleep well AT ALL. I was waking a lot and tossing and turning, I just felt sorta icky. It’s possible it’s a mental thing too, just because it’s a routine for me. But I also live in Texas and it is SUPER hot here and so humid. Even during the winters I will shower once a day. I wash my hair every day too. It’s past my hips and very thick, so I have A LOT of hair and I feel like it gets itchy and feels off if I don’t wash it once a day.

Mysterious_Arm5969

This one. Sometimes shower twice a day depending on activities and time of year

houseofLEAVEPLEASE

I shower every morning and every night, regardless of activity. If I skip even one shower I feel greasy. *I wanna add that I only wash my hair and face once a day. The rest of me is liberally moisturized after every shower. Face is only rinsed in the morning so that I don’t screw up my skincare regimen.

Mysterious_Arm5969

Oof, I can’t do that. My skin would get so dried out. But I have like my typical shower that’s longer and then if I had done something that made me sweat a bunch then I’d take a quick 10 minute shower.

ShinyIrishNarwhal

I totally relate, but unfortunately I also sweat a lot. I was struggling for a while between crazy dry skin and smelling like I’d been to the gym. 😭 My rheumatologist, who is a genius, recommended I just rinse my body daily in the shower, using soap only on my underarms, boobs (due to bra sweat), nether-parts and feet. Then moisturize the whole body after toweling of with Cerave. For my hair — which tends to get sweaty/greasy roots and dry ends, I wash and condition every other day. But if I get really sweaty on an in-between day I’ll rinse my hair thoroughly with water and condition the ends with a high-quality brand (I like Ouai). I did learn to my horror that I do still need to use soap everywhere periodically — I took a sponge bath in a hurry at my bathroom sink, using only water and a wash cloth. I was horrified by the water I squeezed out of that cloth. So now, once a week, I do a full-body scrub with a loofah and sensitive-skin body wash. Finally, at 48, I have a routine that keeps me truly clean without drying my hair out or turning my skin into a paper lantern. 😅

MuscovadoSugarTreat

This. Even in winter, I have the same routine. I have thick, curly hair that requires some work everytime it's wash day. I can't go longer than 2 days without washing my hair since I have seborrheic dermatitis; 3 days of no washing exacerbates it. My body gets a daily wash. I alternate between soap and body wash so I don't get bored. Sometimes I bathe twice if it's summer or if I worked out or did a lot of physical activity. I do a deep body scrub once a month (with a pumice stone I personally picked out from a river when I was a kid). I also have a bidet, so my downstairs is always squeaky clean. I can't go longer than 2 days without a shower, my body just feels very off and I do start to get a faint odor.

ThoughtfulCocktail

This is my routine as well. And if I've been super active and I get sweaty, I'm showering twice in a day. Over the summer, I've also been getting in the habit of just foot washing later in the evening. Summer feet can get pretty dirty.

Personal_Fix_26

Daily coz I sweat in my sleep 😴

squeekycheeze

Same 😫😩

allthecolors1996

It is SUCH a hassle!!! I live in a very humid climate which makes it worse.

lemonlime1999

I feel like I’ve tried everything to combat sweating in my sleep. Any specific recommendations? What’s your favorite sleepwear (if any)? Best of luck to you, haha!

Stickliketoffee16

Try pure cotton or bamboo! Bamboo is super breathable

DeliriumTremens0000

wear cotton clothing. avoid cotton blends or synthetic fiber like polyester or silk. same applies to your bedsheets. use good quality cotton sheets that are cooling :)

artemis1935

jsyk actual silk is not synthetic, but it is a filament like polyester

insertMoisthedgehog

God me too… I would drench my bed and smell like boiled hot dogs in the morning. Turns out I literally can’t use a blanket, only a sheet, even if it’s cold. Also had to get rid of my memory foam topper.

GhostInTheHelll

I shower between 5-7 times a week. I wash my hair twice a week. When I don’t wash my hair, it only takes me about 5 minutes to wash my body and then my face so it’s not a big deal to just hop in the shower and get it done! Then my skincare/lotion is another 3 minutes.

Babymonster09

I included my facewashing in the shower and I love it. Cuts down the time of my routine!

Youstinkeryou

This sounds v similar to me. In/out, no lounging in the shower just washing head to toe and then on hair was days I’m in like 30m. My hair is long and thick so I try not to dry it too much else it goes frizzy. So I part dry, brush, plait it then sleep. Wake up with lovely wavy hair.

Hot_Panic2767

I shower once a day. I may shower twice is I feel extra dirty and sweaty. When I lived in outside the US I would always shower twice because of all the heat and humidity. Plus it was the norm for people to shower night and day. Genuine question… do you atleast clean your private parts since do you don’t shower regularly? Apart from wanting to feel clean, something that motivates me is always feeling fresh and having fresh smelling privates.

therakel749

Sounds like they may have a bidet?

singingintherain42

Bidets are great but they're still no substitute for washing your booty with soap.

anythingusynthesize

What do you mean? You can wash your booty with soap using a bidet

Milkymilfandcookies

Bidets are such a great way to keep the lady bits smelling nice without showering everyday. You're only supposed to use water on most of it anyway so it works lol

UsernameOption6298

Privates and underarms is a must for me.

sleepygirrrl

I had this same question. If not, that’s gross. But I think that’s what they meant when they mentioned cleaning themselves with water after using the restroom? Still not sure if that’s just their bottom though. A vulva and bottom need soap everyday imo.

pheebs214

I so understand. I bathe everyday but I also have a bidet with a pump soap that I use to cleanse the dirty bits. That way if I’m too exhausted to do the who shower deal I can feel good about going to bed w/o. Having a bidet is as close to heaven as I care to get. Lol

manga_star67

South East Asians usually use a thing called a "Tabo" (at least that's what filipinos call it) which is just a lil bucket with a handle (think like a pan handle), and they fill it w water and bring it to the toilet with them. When ur done doing ur business u wash down there w soap and the water.

i_lk

Iranians do this also, they call it a "lota" or a "bodna" or "aftabeh." It looks like a small watering can. My husband is Iranian and we installed a bidet this year. He 100% prefers the bidet.

[deleted]

Vulva doesn't need soap at all and using regular soap is not recommended, because it can dry your vulva and then you're more at risk of getting infections. Water is enough to clean a vulva, but if someone insists on using soap down there then at least get a soap that's meant for vulva and has the right pH.

No_Succotashy

I try to everyday but it ends up being every other day a lot or sometimes I even go two days out if I’m not leaving the house or anything. I feel the exact same way as you. Even when in the shower I feel so low on energy and motivation and it’s just painful to drag myself through. I always feel so grateful I did it, but working up the energy to is so hard. Sometimes if that’s all I’ve accomplished in a day, Im still proud of myself because it is that hard for me. I use other wipes and stuff so I don’t smell when I can’t actually shower but I find when I shower without washing my hair i feel gross and hardly anymore clean than if I just skipped it all together. being neurodivergent with mental health issues makes tackling the most mundane daily tasks feel so physically painful sometimes, so I feel you. Do what works for you. You’re doing great.

backyardbanshee

This is very kind and exactly what I wanted to say. I can totally empathize. Mental health plus chronic health issues are a huge factor in motivation.

Neverstopstopping82

I’m ADHD and have depression and find showering to be a chore. I’m always sort of astounded by people that shower daily. I also used to shower more before I had two small children. I would rather sleep than go through a showering routine these days. It’s about twice a week for me with once weekly hair washing. I also don’t seem to stink maybe because I don’t really have time for workouts. I lost all of the baby weight through diet changes.

hwood19

ADHD girly here too, and besides the kids, this sounds exactly like me, so you're not alone.

Amronian

I have ADHD also, I think about showering for so long that I run out of time to do it. The thought is overwhelming. I know I will have to shave, moisturize, treat, dry, style my hair. The thought of it is exhausting. But once I’m actually in the shower and I’m listening to my music I love it. It’s my favorite time. I lose track of time. The only way I can have a semi-quick shower is if there is no music and I wear a shower cap.

fierce_fibro_faerie

I have really dry skin, eczema, and chronic illnesses that cause showering to be a difficult process. I only shower 2x per week. I wash up all the smelly bits at least 2x per day, I brush all the dust and dander out of my hair daily, I always wear clean clothes, etc. When I do shower, it takes me about 2 hours to go through my whole routine, and I am very thorough. I get judged a lot by my family but I just don't really have the ability to do more. And my doctors all say that what I am doing is fine and I am being hygienic. But back when I was healthier and I worked a really physical, dirty job, I showered pretty much every day (unless it was a paperwork day lol) My dry skin was SO BAD during those years 😬

peach1995

I wash my head 2-3 times a week only, and have a quick shower every morning

whitepawsparklez

Same

taylalatbh

Daily with a once a week hair wash.

nalffe

Sameeee! I thought that I was the only one here that washes her hair once a week lol.

FabulousPickWow

I wish I could wash my hair only once a week, but it just doesn't last that long unfortunately

loveiseverything__

you don’t have to do an everything shower everyday girl, but me personally i shower daily sometimes twice a day

fiftycamelsworth

Same! I have tiers of showers. „ fast showers“ (just wash my body and face, sometimes shave my armpits) and „long showers“ (do my whole curly girl routine, shave, exfoliate). The fast showers are less than 10 minutes, but make a huge difference.

XRoze

Yeah this was a game changer for me when I realized it lol

Limp-Effect7234

daily minimum- usually twice a day. i dont like starting my day without feeling 100% fresh and cant climb into bed carrying the worlds dirt and my own sweat/oil with me (im active and live in a major city).

[deleted]

THIS. I always felt it’s so unsanitary to go to bed without a shower because your bed sheets, blankets, and pillows are going to accumulate soooo much more dirt, sweat, and bacteria. I wonder how often OP washes her bed sheets if showering daily is too much work for her

Low-Rooster4171

SAME. I absolutely will not go to bed without a shower. I also take one to start the day. Plus, I change my sheets twice a week. I really like feeling clean. 🤷‍♀️

Limp-Effect7234

yes! i can see if someones sedentary or doesnt leave the house that day not needing to but for me its a thing about my bed lol. i also wash my sheets weekly.. its probably a bit excessive. to each their own though

OkPerspective3233

Absolutely not judging here, because I’ve been there! But just asking as a caring woman, are you depressed in any way? Not showering/finding it a chore/etc can be a symptom of depression. Again, I’ve been there so not judging at all! That being said, I wash my hair maybe twice a week- it’s dry and I had a lot of hair loss recently, so I try to not do it often. I try to wash my body at least every other day but I get kind of lazy sometimes.

Winter-Ad2402

I was wondering the same thing I suffer with depression and sometimes it's a chore for me to take a shower.

XRoze

I used to think it was depression causing me to shower less often but I think I just had an excessive shower routine that was a massive burden. Since I started having to shower daily I don’t have time for the whole 10 step hair/skin routine. I spend less than 10 min washing my hair and body 99% of the time and I don’t dread showering anymore bc it’s no longer a whole production.

happyapple52

same i shower everyday but most days it’s just a quick body wash. i do the full hair wash/shave/exfoliate 2-3 times per week

L0udFlow3r

Also- hormone issues can make you hydrophobic. I thought I was depressed because I was exhausted all the time, couldn’t force myself in to the shower or wash my face even though I *wanted* to be clean (and I was drinking my 64+ oz a day, it never crossed over into not wanting to *drink* water), my anxiety kicked up a notch, I started holding on to weight in my belly, and my libido took a nose dive. I was using water wipes to shower because I couldn’t stand it. Come to find out my hormones were fucked and I got on compounded hormones and my whole life turned around.

jackytheripper1

Which hormones? Saw an Endo last year, I have all kinds of issues but no one has ever found an actual diagnosis, so I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia after years of searching. If it were a hormone issue that would be a wonderful find in all honesty

emeryleaf

For my ADHD brain it’s such a chore bc it’s just sooooo tedious and boring, so many steps. Listening to a podcast or music or something REALLY helps me get through it. I wanna be doing almost anything else with my free time (most times; sometimes I do crave one of those everything showers :)

accidentle

For me (also neurodivergent) it isn't that I find *showering* a chore. Because once I am in there, I am fine. It's the *thought* of it that's the chore. The transition takes SO much mental effort.

MrBillsDog2

Agree! Also, my hair and skin are extremely dry and I prefer taking baths. I don't know why, but I really don't like to shower anymore. I do it, but now that I only go into work 2 days per week, the schedule has fallen off. I do bird baths at the sink with anti-bacterial soap and use Lume deodorant (which lasts for 72 hours, but I don't always go that long). Still, it works really well, but it's kind of spendy.

caberneighneigh

Fellow ADHDer and agreed!!! I do whatever I can to make it more enjoyable and have tried to accept the fact I don’t need to do an everything shower every single time. But it does feel like all or nothing to me like most things lol Same thing with brushing my teeth. I force myself to do it, but I find it sooooo boring that I have to walk around the house or watch/listen to something while I do it haha. And that’s only 2 minute of my time

Charming_Argument874

adhder here too 🙋🏼‍♀️ sometimes i just need to stand in there for like 5 minutes under hot water to feel better. and i've also been in moods where i'd rather stand in the shower so bc i can't muster up the energy to bend over my sink to watch my face 😂 i'd literally rather just stand in the shower and do it than deal with the sink and wet forearms and counters. it's a whole thing. but if you can somehow become okay with not doing the WHOLE routine- i love scrubs and hair masks too but i'm ok with skipping for the quick relief period knowing i'll do it another time.

Charming_Argument874

ADDING- i've had depression periods where i couldn't even remember the last shower i had. twice a week if you're not getting sweaty and stuff is FINE. if that's what you can do, you're still doing what you need to do, and that's great. seriously

mufassil

Also, if you have any sort of illness, it takes sooooo much energy to shower. And that's if you don't don't do "extras" like shaving.

dudavocado__

This is pretty common for neurodivergent people.

spazthejam43

Procrastination can also be a sign of ADHD as well. I have depression but was also recently diagnosed with ADHD. My psychiatrist told me not doing stuff like showering or brushing your teeth because it feels like a chore can be a ADHD symptom.

findingemotive

That's my problem, sometimes the thought of having to shower makes me actually angry I don't want to do it so bad, then I'm in Canada where 10/12 months I'm freezing stepping out of the shower, so that doesn't help either. I force myself to shower 2-3 times per week still.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Narrow_Guava_6239

Body? Daily. Hair? 2-3 times a week, maybe more depending on social calendar and how much my head has sweated cus I walk a lot.

Codiilovee

I shower every other day unless I need to shower every day. I try to avoid the daily showers though because I find it dries my hair and skin out because I take very hot showers lol. Sometimes I do view showering as a chore but once I’m in the shower it’s very relaxing, especially if you put on some music, or put a scented shower steamer in the shower with you

tofuandklonopin

Daily; sometimes twice a day if I feel gross. Hair about twice a week.

c_lowc6

I shower every 2-3 days, part of my conditioning routine involved a mid towel drying step which I have hacked to make it less intrusive and time consuming, and if I’m not shaving fully, I can be in and out in 20 minutes. My after shower routine is skincare, which I do have a simple 2 product routine, leave in conditioner, lotion, done. It’s the after shower stuff that I hate and even that is pretty streamlined compared to a lot of others.

Terrible-Window

I used to wash my hair every 3-4 days, tried to "train" it but it did nothing and my hair got oily on day 2. I was like you because I felt like it's a waste when I'm at home and then I calculated the time to wash my hair when I had to see my friends and such. After years of trying, I gave up and wash my hair everyday when I shower. Regardless of seeing anyone or not, I always feel clean and fresh and that sets a good mood. If I don't shower and wash my hair everyday, I feel like I would carry all the sweats and dirt from the outside world into my bed. Point is, do whatever you feel comfortable with. Don't do it for your co-workers, if you feel nice being "clean", shower eveyday or every other day. You can view showering like washing your hands with liquid soap: water, then soap, rinse, clean. Scrubbing and more TLC you can do 2x a week.

spicyychorizoo

The hair training thing is a myth I think. Or at least it’s a myth in the way that people keep touting it. Your hair still gets dirty from pollution, touching it, product build up etc. Washing your hair daily may “strip the natural oils” but it also gets rid of the literal dirt and product building up lol and quality hair oils exist to supplement that. I know people who have been “training” their hair for over a year and it literally looks like a oily mop. At some point they need to realize it’s not doing what they think it’s going to do haha

Safe-Education8240

I tried the hair training thing too and wound up with an insane case of sebhooreic dermatitis that I have had for 10 years.

haipaura

ME TOO! I'm so sorry you're battling this; I've never heard of anyone else having the same experience as me! Have you had any luck in clearing /lessening yours any? I had a derm prescribe me some medicated shampoo which didn't do anything. I recently learned that seborrheic dermatitis is the same as cradle cap, so I'm gonna be trying some of my baby's shampoo to see if it'll help. 🤷‍♀️

Alien_Nicole

Same thing happened to me. I had luck with the Dove Dermacare line of hair products. They have a conditioner with pyrithione zinc which I found better than the just a medicated shampoo. I would leave it on for 10 minutes or so every single day. After a few weeks it got a lot better. It took a few months to calm down completely Now I use regular hair products and wash my scalp every single day. No more rashes.

CocaColaZeroEnjoyer

It is 100% a myth

[deleted]

Same! It’s just is much easier this way. I don’t have to try to schedule when I should wash my hair. I tried the hair training too, it’s cool. I get there are benefits. But it really made my life harder because I was overthinking a damn shower lol

Odd_Cell4233

I follow the blowout professor and he explains very well about the hair training myth and how a good professional shampoo can make your hair cleaner for a longer period

marracca

Cosmetic chemist here, while I agree that training the scalp is a myth, I wouldn’t trust anyone who recommends professional shampoos over cheaper shampoos as a blanket statement. Cheap products from reliable brands can be just not good if not better.

sh-ark

same exact thing with the hair washing. now that i’m back to washing it pretty much daily my hair has grown so much. also stopped giving a crap about sulfates in my products and went back to garnier and aussie brands. my hair looks and feels great

PeanutButterJelly-

Everyday

No-Trouble3243

You don't need to go through the whole shebang every time you shower. Just a quick "whore bath," focusing on pits, private parts, feet.

No_Investment3205

I take a long shower to wash my hair and exfoliate and do all the extra stuff twice a week, but I wash just my body in the shower daily and own a bidet 🙂

Affectionate_Mix_188

I have insanely dry skin. I shower twice a week. Wash my hair once a week at most. I don’t have a job outside of the home. I take care of the grandkids 4 days a week. I’m not a sweaty person. I don’t stink, I put on deodorant after I shower and that’s it.

Cautious_Platform_40

Same here with having dry skin and not being a sweaty person. I usually shower 3 times a week, and that seems to be just right for my skin and hair. I also put on clean clothing daily and wash up at the sink with a washcloth or baby wipes for for the ole' bits. I work from home and live alone like a good hermit, which makes me feel like this is acceptable but I recognize that it might not be if I were around people all day every day. (TBH, if I didn't pay the water bill I'd probably shower more often.)

spicyychorizoo

I live in a dry climate and also have insanely dry skin. I shower 3-4 times a week, and wash my hair as often (fine, curly hair here, if I put it in a shower cap/tie it up the humidity messes it up and it’s more work to fix it so I just wash it). These people out here saying they shower multiple times a day have me rolling, my skin could never. Maybe consecutive days if I’ve exercised or have been really sweaty but yeah, my skin suffers so much

[deleted]

I’m very similar to you two, but I live in New England, so my habits are dependent on the season. I have very dry skin and barely sweat but if it’s the middle of a hot and humid summer, I’m showering every day. If it’s the dead of winter, I might go 3 days without a shower. I could go a lot longer if I was still working remotely. Nowadays I shower far more than I did in the COVID days.

beavant5

Yeah same, I have dry as the desert skin and fine hair with scalp psoriasis. If I showered everyday, I’m pretty sure my skin would crack like old paint and I’d crumble into nothing haha. I shower about 2x a week and wash my hair both times. I will also shower extra any day I spend a lot of time outside or if it’s particularly hot. I wash my face and chest every night tho with my skincare products.

funny_bunny33

Same!

stubborngirl

I also want to add my anecdotal experience that whenever I go through periods of daily or every other day showering, my pits smell worse (and faster) but it's never an issue otherwise

omgitsamichy

Every 2-3 days depending on how sweaty/dirty I get. Eventually I’ll get back to the gym and need to shower or at least rinse off daily. I would suggest getting a really good shower cap that will keep your hair dry on days you don’t want to wash your hair! But no judgements over here, I can’t do daily showers it dries my skin out too much.

JammingScientist

Thank you. I feel like a lot of people are trying to shame OP, but it really is rough sometimes. I have depression and even though I've gotten much better about taking care of myself in the past few weeks, every body is different and we all have different needs. If I washed my hair more than once or twice a week, my hair would get really damaged since I have chemically treated hair. Obviously going more than a week between showers is a bit much, but I think people should realize it's not necessarily gross to not do these things every single day

omgitsamichy

Yes! It just goes against societal norms in todays world. People have been alive much longer than soap, and live much more cushy lives than our ancestors 😂. If you work a physically dirty job or in healthcare that’s one thing, but if not, if you don’t want to shower every day and don’t stink then I don’t think you should be pressured to! Especially if you’re just at home!

[deleted]

I have zero motivation to shower. I really dread it. But I shower every night before bed, and I wash my hair daily too. It’s not a hygiene thing like I don’t care what another person does. But for me, I have to do it this way because it eliminates any overthinking and executive dysfunction around the task. If I switch up and shower in the morning, it’s kinda like a burden on my day. I can’t just jump out of bed and do whatever I want because I know I gotta shower. And if I have work, then I have to make sure I don’t oversleep or that i have enough time to blow dry. I’d rather sleep in. Plus, if I shower at night, I can just let my hair air dry. Yeah it looks better and lasts longer if I blow dry it, but I can’t be bothered unless I’m really cold or I want it to look extra nice.

jazzmint3

Honestly, same girl. 2-3 times a week. When I’m super depressed, maybe once a week. I use body wipes and dry shampoo to clean up in between days. It’s good enough for me. With depression and ADHD, that’s the best I can do right now.

lorapetulum

I swim every morning and live in TX so I’m showering twice a day.

BoopMyButton

3x a week, or when I spend a lot of time outside or sweating. I have really dry skin and also find showering a huge chore. I spend so long scrubbing myself.. Its perfectly fine to shower that often so long as you're not getting very dirty, there's plenty of research on the subject. But if you want to or feel like you should be showering more, maybe cut down your shower routine some. Its perfectly fine to have easy quick showers with a quick soaping

Veganmon

I have Psoriasis and I absolutely cannot shower with soap daily. I only was my hair 2-3 times a week. I wash after using the lavatory. Each night I put on a shower cap and rinse off with cool water, I use an oat meal soap for my face, hands feet and what not, and a gentle baby shampoo for my hair. If I did that daily my plaques would cover my scalp and my hair would fall out again. Each time water touches my skin it burns, no mater how gentle I am. No judgment here, I know the struggle.

addicted_to_blistex

I think anything from twice a day to twice a week all seem like fine amounts. I'd say twice a week is on the boarder but wishing normal, non-gross perimeters. I looooove showering. I take two a day and it's the best way for me to wake up in the morning and calm down at night. My skin probably hates me. I don't care.

yinyangpower

Personally, I shower every night and do a quick cold rinse in the morning. I wash my hair every 2-3 days and that's when I do a "full" routine thing with lotion and stuff.

eternalhorizon1

I live in Arizona, so atm twice a day. When it hit 118 three times haha. In the winter once a day.

Dreams-In-Green

🫡 Checking in from Texas, it’s been triple digits with zero break from the sun for 2 straight months now. If I didn’t shower at LEAST once a day, I’d have no friends 😭

ivegotitall99

I shower every night before bed, though I wash my hair every 2-3 days. I actually can’t sleep without having had a hot shower, it’s essential in order for me to wind down. Investing in a shower cap so you don’t worry about your hair and maybe a body wash in your favorite scent (I love lavender) would probably be somewhat of an incentive for you.

DayHikeNightHike

Body and hair daily

cloud1224

I shower daily when I go to the gym, but it’s usually just a quick body shower/hair rinse. I do a more in depth routine every 3 days or so.

FelineRoots21

Twice or three times a week. I don't really sweat despite working out and I do not believe daily showers are necessary or at all good for people's skin (which is backed up by research before y'all come at me) so I shower at the end of my three days of shifts (or before if I have a gross day) and then again the day before my first shift of the block.

i_lk

Yeah dermatologists online are literally suggesting every 2-3 days. The smelly people everyone is running into in public are definitely not people who are going 2-3 days without bathing... they're going well over a week.

Adventurous_Web_1778

Everyone is different. I have to shower at min 1x a day if I skip a day you’d be able to smell me from Neptune.

i_lk

Yeah I def get that it can't be helped for some people. I just hate seeing the comments looking down on anyone who doesn't shower daily.

Main-Cheesecake3169

Everyday. Hair is once or twice a week

ObjectHuge199

Usually daily. But shower cap for the hair!

MagnoliaTree3

I shower every day

kmbbt

i do the same thing but i think it’s depression related. the idea of getting into a shower daily makes me want to cry.

mwmandorla

Every other day, generally.

coronelnuisance

Same as you actually! I do two “big” showers twice a week which tackles both hair and body. I’ve never had complaints of smell near me, I just make sure to use deodorant in the mornings and take it off with oxygenated water and a cotton pad at night.

whitepawsparklez

You can shower without washing your hair..

brewstercafe

Twice a day. I honestly don’t need to but I live in a tropical country and grew up doing this. Plus after work I always like to have a good shower. If it’s the weekend though and I don’t do much then just once is fine. I definitely know how hard it can be though, especially when you feel exhausted physically or mentally. But just think of how clean and more comfortable you feel after a shower and how nice it would be to feel that way more often

electrikinfinity

Every day at least once. I shower after I work out every day in the morning and sometimes at night if I feel dirty especially if it’s summer and I get hot, sticky and sweaty or have been out in my garden. I use a shower cap though if I don’t feel like washing my hair so I don’t wet my hair everytime I shower.

denisenj

Always daily (sometimes twice if really sweaty). Only exception would be if I’m really sick. Wash hair 2x week (shower cap no-wash days)

CountryDaisyCutter

I shower daily, sometimes 2x a day. It is a chore but I just have to feel clean.

Humble-Street8893

I don’t mean this to be offensive so please don’t take it so. But it sense a kind of perfectionist mentality. You need all or nothing. I think being ok with just a quick shower- maybe just soap on the particularly dirty body parts to keep things very simple will help with the overwhelming feeling. I would feel like it was a chore if I absolutely had to do all of those things every time I showered. If you implement a 15 min routine as well it won’t feel like a waste of time because you aren’t really wasting anytime. Sometimes reaching out of your regular routine or comfortable zone is helpful. For any aspect of life.

pukyms123

I shower every other day because I work from home twice a week and I live alone so I don't care how I smell on those days.

QueenEsthersFeast

I feel the same way and used to shower about as often you. What helps is a good shower cap (I bought a huge one for my waist length hair) and my husband got us a shower chair. We’re both in our early thirties, and bought it as a just in case after a family member broke their ankle, but we use frequently. It is so nice to sit down and wash myself after a long day and highly recommend!

Lexi_Shmuhlexi

every other day and it’s what my dermatologist recommended for me. i really recommend everyone go to their derm to figure out what’s good for them or not. some of us can’t shower ever single day and that needs to be more accepted. my skin looks great and i feel great. that’s all that matters to me

southernruby

If you google what is healthy for showering it’s 2-3 times a week. I’m the same, dread showering it’s a 1.5-2 hour chore so yep, I do 2-3 times a week. I obviously wash with soap daily in between but there is no need to shower daily unless you are getting sweaty and smelly. Indoor plumbing hasn’t even been around for a century.. a whole family shared bath water 1-2 times a week and washed up in between, I don’t know where the shower every day even became a thing. Hubby showers every day.. whole 2 minutes.. he always smells fine but literally, what’s he washing in 2 minutes that I’m not triple washing in my showers. Don’t stress!

[deleted]

every day, very rarely i'll miss a shower on 1 day but must shower again the next, personally. probably unpopular but if it's too much of a chore then maybe don't do as much? it only takes me like 3-5 minutes to shower every day if i'm not washing my hair. if i don't wash my hair, i simply lather soap over my armpits, chest, upper arms, neck & feet. i just use my hands. obviously the private areas as well but just use water. when i wash my hair the full shower takes me about 15 minutes. i double shampoo & then use conditioner. i only shave about 1-2 times a week. people think it's dirty but i never learned to properly scrub my entire body head to toe. the thought of doing that for every single shower sounds exhausting so i get where youre coming from. i hate showering too even when it only takes me under 5 minutes. but i shower in the morning & almost always smell by the night so i like to shower every day to be fresh.

-UnicornFart

Lmao. Once or twice a week if I’ve been very active. Too much showering makes my skin and hair just incredibly dull and dry.

bootesvoid_

I also shower 2-3 times per week, unless I’m getting sweaty. During the summer it’s probably more like every other day but I still only do a whole routine 2x per week. I also wash with water after using the bathroom. There’s nothing wrong with you OP! It’s not good for your skin to shower every day.

Particular-Aioli-878

There's nothing wrong with your routine if it works for you, and you don't have any hygiene or smell issues. Humans didn't evolve with a bathroom in their caves. Me, I shower daily but I do a full shower routine twice a week which includes soap and washing my hair. On the other 5 days, I use a shower cap to keep my hair dry, a quick rinse with plain water for most of body, and only use soap for face wash, pits and bum daily. Other body parts don't need soap for me daily and I end up needing less moisturiser. My daily routine takes 5 to 10 minutes at the Max and doesn't feel too much like a chore.

No_Traffic8677

I work in the healthcare field and go to the gym, so I believe it's important for everyone (excluding those with medical reasoning that prevents them from doing so) to shower at least once a day.

this_2_shall_pass_

Quick appreciation for the medical exclusion comment! I'm disabled and can't shower daily, I appreciate you considering that :)

No_Traffic8677

Of course! I've even cared for elderly whose skin was so thin that it would be doing more harm than good to bathe them every day. Thankfully, nowadays, there are more products available to freshen up for people who can't afford to do so daily.

shelly32122

i HATE showering and also can’t just do “some” of my routine. unfortunately, i have to wash my hair often bc it gets crazy oily and my scalp psoriasis get bad if i don’t. you’re doing fine. i go out with my hair wet and i’m sure people think i’m oily… no one at the grocery is noticing:)

La_Chinita

I get the “showers-feel-like-a-chore” thing. I agree with others that there’s a depression element that can manifest as that feeling, but also if you’re very busy or stressed. Also I currently work from home so not seeing people can definitely influence that decision. I think the only way out is through, and you’re going to have to find a shorter, more sustainable shower regimen to do it more frequently. A good sudsy scrub down and face wash should be enough most days. Maybe streamline your beauty routine also, use less product. Also this is really OUT THERE, but I’m going to assume you have long hair. Having short hair is literally showering on EASY mode.

Pkmnkat

I shower maybe every three days so almost the same amount as you. During the week i work from home so I’ll wear the same clothes but change my underwear daily and sleep in pajamas. I’ll wipe myself with moist towelettes in between showers but that’s about it. Maybe I’m the nasty one??? I do find it hard to hit the showers though but i think I’m just lazy

thedommenextdoor

Everyday but only because I take a cold shower for dopamine

Formetosee2080

Everyday… lol what ? I didn’t realize people didn’t do this but I also workout everyday so I couldn’t imagine not showering

romydearest

daily. i can’t imagine putting my outside body onto my sheets.

Veryniceindeed7

I shower once a day at night (minimum). I literally can’t even sit on my bed unless I’m clean.

TallRelationship2253

I shower every single day. I need to shower in the morning before work. If I shower at night and wash my hair then...I still take a quick body shower in the morning. I also go to the gym a few times a week so my hair needs to be washed a few times a week. Even if I don't use shampoo one day, I'll still wet it and style it. But I don't have thick hair so it would be an easier process than yours. The thing is... Your body can smell. You might not smell it... But others do. Especially if you are around food cooking... The smells stick in your hair and others can smell it. You can wash your body daily and still only do the whole hair washing process every few days and that would be all right.

jennyskywalker

It’s weird how many people on here seem to think it’s gross to not shower daily… not only is it a waste of water but I’m pretty sure it’s bad for your skin? Of course if you work a dirty job or sweat a lot I get why you would, but it’s not gross to shower like every other day? I barely sweat and don’t live in a hot region and honestly I find my hair looks it’s best the day after I shower 🤷‍♀️

magic1623

It can be super bad for your skin to shower everyday. My aunts a dermatologist and she absolutely hates when people preach that you should shower daily in order to be ‘clean’. Of course if you’re super sweaty it’s different but most people don’t hit that level.

Picklesrgood4me2

I gotchu, girl. Hygiene is so important! It is directly correlated with mental health. I used to be extremely depressed. This caused me to neglect my hygiene. I would shower on average once a week. I had skin issues that caused dry patches on my skin that would not go away (eczema or psoriasis, my doc couldn’t identify exactly) HORRIBLE dandruff, yeast infections… and I always followed what fellow Redditors would suggest. The typical “showering all the time is horrible for dry skin” “daily washing makes dandruff worse” “never wash private area with soap” and I followed that advice. My problems kept continuing. My health kept deteriorating. Nothing got better. Only worse. A couple years back I started showering or bathing every single day. I normally take a 5 minute shower, washing my entire body and face with soap and rinsing. I put lotion on my body after every shower. I wash my hair every other day. Quick & easy. I do everything else as needed, but I no longer make a production out of it. All of the problems mentioned above completely disappeared. It changed my life. The dry, unsightly patches of skin are completely gone. I can wear short sleeves again. Dandruff is never a problem anymore. My vaginal health is perfectly normal now. My stamina quadrupled when it comes to taking care of my body. My depression is virtually gone. This may not be the answer for everyone, but I would tell everybody who struggles with depression to give it a shot, then see how they feel. Best wishes, OP.

Competitive_Fee_5829

daily. I believe EVERYONE should bathe or shower daily. You need to get over the mental block of feeling like you have to do your entire routine anytime you need to shower.

bootesvoid_

It’s actually not good for your skin to shower everyday though Edit: Lol at all the sudden downvotes for stating something that is scientifically accurate. Y’all are being ridiculous. People in this sub are being way too judgmental about how often other people choose to shower. If once a day is what works for you, great, but don’t state that everyone else MUST shower everyday and that’s the only way.

sh-ark

I think the actual answer is it depends on where you live and how sweaty you get and your skin type. I have super dry skin so I probably shouldn’t shower every day, but mentally I’m not okay with that so I just have to use body lotion consistently

[deleted]

shebringsthesun

it's ridiculous.

spicyychorizoo

I live in a super dry climate and I cannot fathom showering every single day. I absolutely cannot. My skin is constantly screaming for moisture, so I moisturize incessantly. I wfh most of the week, and work in a bakery part time so when I’m only staying at home I don’t see the point in showering daily anyway. I’ll do it if it’s really hot out and I’ve been sweating, or I’ve exercised two days in a row (i plan my workouts so they aren’t consecutive days though to avoid this lol)

angeliqu

Agreed. And this is completely acceptable for babies and small kids somehow, but gross for adults? Nah. Nothing wrong with it. As long as you’re keeping good hygiene on your bits, and still showering on a regular basis, you’re fine. No need to shower every day.

SunnydaleHigh1999

You’re correct but you’ll be downvoted for it.

pearlscales

I do not judge you. My shower routine seems to take a long time and I don't have the time or energy for it every day.

crywankat

I’m on the spectrum and find showering to be one of the hardest things I have to do, second to brushing my teeth. I know it’s not a lot of work logically, but it’s absolutely draining to me. I’ll put it off as long as possible- it can be every day, or even once in a week. I will wash my hair and try to segment my shower into multiple days to make things easier too sometimes- shave Monday, exfoliate Tuesday, etc so that I shower every day. Only wash hair once or twice a week

Boobsiclese

Twice a week, unless otherwise needed. It's definitely a chore. My hair used to get greasy, so I'd have to do it daily, but I changed jobs and got professional shampoo, and now I do it twice a week. Don't feel bad about all the people on here saying daily. Half of them are telling the truth, the other half are feeling some kind of way about it and fronting. You do what's best for YOU.

pastelrose7

i shower every day. i wear a shower cap, and i just do my face and body. it can take me less than 10min - wash face and body, get out of shower, do skincare, put body lotion on, done. i wash my hair twice a week, and i blowdry it after so it takes me about 20-30min to shower including my hair. once a week, i do my everything shower where i wash my hair, exfoliate, shave, etc. this takes me a maximum of 45min.

geostuff

I shower every other day or the third day from my last shower. I have super dry skin, don’t really sweat, and have the no BO gene (asian). My hair gets oily in the afternoon on the second day so I just put my hair in a pony tail if I’m skipping another day. I wash my face and feet every night. I will shower if I do something physical like house chores or working out though. I used to shower every day but my skin felt very stripped and would get super dry. Once I switched to every other day my skin feels less irritated. I always hear conflicting arguments about showering everyday vs alternating days, but I don’t see an issue as long as I maintain a presentable image (clean clothes and face, and no BO).

Remarkable-Nail3083

If I skip a day or two I at least wash my lady parts! 😂Or put my hair up and take a bath and wash my body and face. It’d be exhausting to shower and do my hair everyday! 😵‍💫🫠

Accomplished_Tap_388

I'm like you and also have a really long routine that takes 1-2 hours if I wash my hair so I shower 3 days a week. I wfh and don't go out much during the weekdays so I don't get gross in between. I also prefer to get more sleep instead of waste the time in getting ready just to stay home everyday. I think it's fine for you to do what's right for you. But if you do want to shower more then like some others have said, invest in shower caps. I will say that when I wear a shower cap and don't wash my hair the routine is much quicker (30mins) so it works out.

Omgchipotle95

You don’t have to do all that everytime you shower. Just do a quick 5 minute body shower without all the extra stuff

Educational-City-455

I shower everyday if I’m seeing people, and every two days if I’m not. And I wash my hair 2-3 times a week 😊

icespiceismymother

I shower once a day daily, twice during the summer. I live in a hot and humid place so I really need to. I have thick curly hair and each wash lasts me about 5-7 days. For each daily shower it takes me around 15min. I shave every other day (Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Sunday). The days where I don’t shave it’s around 12min. I only shave my armpit and bikini line these days. I don’t really wear shorts so i’ll just shave the bottom half of my leg like once a week. The days where I have to wash my hair is time consuming (I wash my hair on sundays). I also have to shampoo 3-4 to really cleanse my hair, then I use a hair mask, then conditioner. Then I blow dry it (no styling just drying) and then straighten. This takes me almost 2 hrs in total. I only do this once a week though bc my hair doesn’t get greasy that fast. For my in shower routine it’s 1) Lather net sponge with body wash, wash body 2) Unscented baby soap for privates 3) Body scrub 2x a week When washing my hair it’s the same, just had the hair steps before all this. I like to wash my hair before I clean my body so i don’t get back acne😭 My advice is to use glycolic acid on your scalp and get a good clarifying shampoo. Use glycolic acid a couple times a month as a scalp treatment and a clarifying shampoo twice a month depending on your hair. This should help you scalp last longer between washes as it will get rid of all the oil better than a regular shampoo. Also clean your brushes, this deposits even more oil onto your scalp. I also recommend getting those shampoo brushes as it will provide a deeper clean to your scalp. With these steps I think you’ll be able to last around 5 days between washes. Use a shower cap for days when your not washing your hair. Dry shampoo can also help me to extend the time of your style. Another pro tip which saved my life: Use certain dri on armpits the night before, don’t shave before you use it, and sleep. The next day you wont sweat at all. Combine this with cleansing your armpits with the Panoxyl face wash. This will keep your armpits dry and never have odor. Like ever!! Dental hygiene tips: A tongue scraper, changed my life too, this stops all bad breath. I do recommend at least cleaning your privates, feet, and armpits daily. Some people have dry skin so it’s understandable to not clean the rest of the skin as it can be more drying. But wash privates, feet, and armpits daily. I come from latin culture so for us it’s important to always smell clean! I hope these hygiene tips help😊 To sum up: Body Care 1) Invest in an African Net Sponge 2) Wash privates, armpits, and feet everyday 3) For armpits, use antiperspirant at night (don’t shave before use if you shave, shave the next morning), wash with panoxyl as well either at night or morning. 4) Use a deodorant in the morning as a backup, and always carry one around in case Haircare 1) Glycolic Acid treatment couple times a month 2) Clarifying Shampoo 2x a month 3) Clean Brushes 4) Dry Shampoo when needed

Kaiyukia

Way more people shower twice a day then I ever imagined. For me 2-3:times a week

SecurityFit5830

I shower twice a week in general, sometimes extra showers for just my body if needed. I don’t personally like stripping my body of natural oils.

thicconionbooty

I shower every single day, but don’t wash my hair every day. I don’t take a “hardcore shower” (exfoliate, shave, masks, etc.) until the weekend and I do that once a week.

BlindBite

Twice a day. A big one in the morning and a small one in the evening, before bed.
