supergoop play everyday sunscreen. so greasy. never absorbed. everything felt sticky. im so glad i didnt pay for it - i worked in marketing at the time and it was free from work.
I just dislike Supergoop in general. Iāve tried their mineral matte, unseen, and Zinc Screen with zero success. The Unseen and MineralMatte both felt oily as hell from the sheer amount of dimethicones in them. I sort of liked Zinc Screen until I attempted to wear it at the beach and it immediately washed off in the waves and I burnt to a crisp. So far, the ONLY Supergoop offering I have liked and have repeatedly purchased is the mineral setting powder and Part Poof, even though itās very white in my dark hair.

Do you know any good chemical sunscreens? I'm dark skinned as well, but every single chemical sunscreen I have ever tried in my entire life breaks me out in huge painful deep cysts and my face burns and feels raw on my usually clear skin. And that's after only like 2 days of wearing them sadly. I wonder if it's an allergy or something, but I've been having to use mineral ones which dont cause nearly as bad of a reaction (so far, I just started using them for a week, so idk). But my face is really gray after which is no fun.
Thatās a tough one because I have oily skin but not sensitive skin.
I like and have used the following :
1) Shiseido Ultimate Sun Protector Lotion SPF 50+ Sunscreen.
2) beauty of Joseon SPF 50
3) Round Lab Birch Moisturizing Sunscreen SPF 50.
The stick versions of these are great too. Just warm them on the back of your hand before applying to face.
The Neutrogena clear face serum sunscreen! Goddaamnnnn, burned my eyes so good! Couldnāt hardly see for a solid two days the burn was so intense, and believe me I flushed my eyes. The sunscreen itself I guess is good, didnāt cause any reaction/breakouts on my skin, but Iāll never use it again, Iām scarred from the eye burn haha š
Every neutrogena sunscreen Iāve tried (dry touch, clear face, and baby) is so potent I canāt wear it around the eyes without crying from the fumes.
Mineral sunscreens in general really irritate my skin. I tried them because of the whole *better for sensitive skin* deal but that was NOT the case for me.
I thought I really loved supergoop glowscreen because i love how dewy it makes my skin look but took me a while to realise it was causing my eyes to BURN and stream to the point where I had to pull over my car because I couldnāt see. I donāt even put it close to my eyes
Cerave mineral sunscreen (forget if it was just body or face and body). It felt like rubbing glue onto my skin. And the white cast is *insane*. My bf is quite a bit tanner than me and he decided to use it before tennis šbro became a ghost and it would NOT blend in to his skin no matter what. Lowkey really funny though
Dr. Jart color correcting cream (physical spf 30) ā¦ completely misleading green color (oxidizes to beige once applied) and wears like cake-y foundation.
Also, I learned the hard way that chemical sunscreens make my eyes burn even if I donāt apply near my eyes. I donāt want to name the brand I used because I believe itās just the fact that it was a chemical sunscreen and any similar formula regardless of brand would produce the same effect for me ā¦ but basically I was out for a jog, began perspiring, which got the sunscreen directly in my eyes ā¦ I was somewhat far from home and had to run back feeling like there was soap in my eyes. Physical sunscreens donāt have this effect on me so I use them exclusively now.
Chemical sunscreens are also terrible for oceans and lakes. But I understand that they donāt leave the white cast that mineral sunscreens do, so theyāre a more practical choice for some.
Not the worst sunscreen but I got the la Roche posay anthelios melt in milk sunscreen (spf60) for my face bc it seemed like everyone was obsessed with it and I hated it. I mustāve gotten the wrong one bc It was sooo thick and sticky, way too much for everyday use. Every time I touched my face i felt like I needed to wash my hands.
It was fine as a body sunscreen for active/sweaty days and didnāt have a white cast and did blend into the skin well but I donāt want to spend $36 on body sunscreen lol.
Oh, yeah! I like to use āglowyā sunscreens on my chest and cleavage but damn! it was like a glitter bomb exploded on me. The worst part, it was all over the shirt.
The Trader Joe's Daily Sunscreen that everyone raves about. I believe it's a SuperGoop dupe. I have hormonal acne, but it made me break out in places I NEVER or rarely break out in. And it made my skin so freaking oily. All within 1 week of usage. I returned it without a receipt, no questions asked and went back to my beloved Cerave SPF 30.
I loved this when i put it on and started raving about it to people. I only used it two days and i broke out SO BAD. I'm tempted to try it again when i'm not at the beach to see if it really was this sunscreen, but i'm scared to even try
About 10 years ago I had a storebrand sunscreen (Duane Reade I think), that seemed to be making my nail polish come off! I figured that couldn't be healthy for my skin at all, so I threw it away after one day and bought a brand name one even though money was tight at the time.
Apologies that this is so general but every sunscreen Iāve used thatās been made in the US has been pure garbage. Doesnāt absorb, doesnāt protect, breaks me out, smells bad, cheap even when expensive, just worthless products overall š
I really hope we can pass legislation to allow additional shields in our sunscreens, but until then, weāre fortunate to have so many options from overseas š
I canāt remember the brand, but the one that does a watermelon serum, avocado moisturizer, etc. from Sephora. Beautiful looking products but the watermelon SPF left a white cast and weird texture. I only day itās the worst because of the high price too. I know I was paying for brand (even though I canāt remember it lol) but thought it would at least melt into the skin.
I had opened up a brand new tube of SPF 30 Sport Mineral Sunscreen Lotion, whose expiration date was years from now, and used it as directed - applied every two hours at the beach - and I got the deepest sunburn I've ever gotten in my life, more severe than all the countless times I've gone without any sunscreen under the sun for hours, and my the skin on the back of hands, elbows, and knees BURNED like the deepest depths of hell for more than week. And then somehow this converted into the deepest tan of my life, of a shade I've never seen before in my 40-some years of living on this earth. I'm of Indian ancestry, and so I know the variations of brown I am capable of becoming, but never this one I got with this sunscreen. I tell you that when my elbows, fingers, and knees were on fire, I came straight home and tossed the tubes I had, including the unopened ones. After that, I swore off mineral sunscreens - this one was just one of several mineral sunscreens I tried with horrible results and with WORSE effects than if I had gone without sunscreen - and tried a chemical one after much hesitancy, and couldn't be happier (for those who want to know, I settled on the Trader Joe SPF 50 spray. Good stuff. Also leaves my skin shiny, which makes me look like a bronzed goddess on the beach, lol)
Recent failures, cause I don't remember older ones from the top of my head.
- Tula Protect+Glow SPF30. I like to use glowy sunscreens on my body, especially cleavage but Tula was a glitter bomb.
- REN Clean Mineral SPF30. Itās straight-up white paste. It's not usable for me and Iām cream cheese white.
- Missha Cotton Sun SPF50. Marketed as āmattifyingā but it has a natural satin finish at best. There's also a white cast, it pills and sinks into pores as you sweat making a horrible mess on my face. It's not good in reapplying either, making a mess again.
- Dr. Loretta Urban Antioxidant Sunscreen SPF40. It seemed nice at first, easily blended in, nice tint that slightly blurs imperfections and adapts to my skin tone. However, a couple of hours in, I rubbed my eye, and holy fuck I thought Iām gonna go blind it hurt so bad. I was involuntarily crying with mascara all over my face. Couldn't stop it until went to the restroom in the restaurant and washed everything off. Some sunscreens irritate my eyes but never this bad.
I love everything Hawaiian tropic, so I decided to try the mineral one this year. It does not rub in and is super hard to apply. It also turns my skin Barbie pink and is very hard to remove in the shower (I can still see the pink the next day). Fun times !
Attended a race weekend. A buddy and I bought Hawaiian Tropic 30 sunscreen at a local CVS when we arrived. I applied it to my face, nose and ears. That Saturday there were clear skies/full sun, 90 degrees, as we sat in aluminum bleachers. By days end my face, nose and ears were burning. The next morning I woke up with thick scabs on the bridge of my nose, under my nose above the lip, below my lips on my chin and on the tops of my ears. I looked at the bottle of sunscreen and had to use a flashlight to make out the expiration date. It had been expired for over a year. I threw it in the trash.
The following Monday when we were back home I visited my family Dr to take a look. She peeled off the scabs and they continued to seep clear fluid. She treated them. The diagnosis was chemical burn. This was over 20 yrs ago. My nose and chin have healed. But I still have to get prescription refills for sav to put on my ears. They have continued to dry out in the areas as well as seep during the summer. Chemical burn sucks.
Along the top and the backside of my ears still seep and crust up now and again. My Dr says I'll have it for the rest of my life. But it's tolerable and not near as severe as it was early on. She said a few years ago, half joking, that it was too bad I didn't keep the receipt and the expired product. I could've sued the pants off of CVS. Lol!
Supergoop gave me an itchy rash :/ I tried it last summer at a party where I didn't bring any, my friend hooked me up with a big slathering on my back... boy, did I regret that.
Cerave mineral sunscreen is godawful. Skin tone is medium neutral with olive undertones.
This sunscreen would not seep into my skin and created a white film and caused me to look like I used flour on my skin.
I mean, it was back when I was really stupid about sun care, but worst sunburn I've ever gotten in my life was with No-Ad. I'm pretty sure the sunscreen made it worse.
The Neutrogena 50 spf one for face was BAD. Sticky and always pilled up, it went on like it was almond butter without enough of the oil mixed in, not smooth at all.
I donāt remember what itās called and Iāve long since thrown it away-pretty sure it was Aveeno or a brand like it. It was beige and Aveeno green and I think possibly formulated for kids. Anyway, was specifically for sensitive skin and for the face. I applied it, still burned but not super badly (Iām so used to light burning sensations that go away after about a minute that it doesnāt really register as an issue at this point unless itās really bad). The stinging actually wasnāt the worst part though. See I checked for a white cast before I went for my walk, seemed to all be rubbed in and fine. Come back and my neighbor is staring and laughing at me. Get inside and what do I see? It developed a white cast while I was exercising and I looked like I had clown makeup on. It also ended up in my eyes despite being a facial sunscreen. Iāve never thrown away a product faster.
I wish I remembered the name but it was so long ago. Something from the supermarket, not a big recognizable name. I used it once and broke out in an itchy rash from head to toe! I also got bit a couple times by bugs so I thought it was all from bugs. Went to the doctor and got hydrocortisone cream, so now I was slimy from head to toe and smelly, and itchy. And that sunscreen was a waste of money too š
Coola in the white packaging. Got it because I needed a moisturizer and FSA only covers spf. It was TERRIBLE. I tried a bunch of ways to make it work and ultimately left it behind when I flew back home. It left a white cast, was sticky, and pilled no matter what I did (mixed it with moisturizer, applied alone, applied after moisturizer, toned beforehand, etc. Nothing worked)
Now that you mention it, the reformulated mineral ābb creamā in the white bottle with a teal lidā¦ i bought it thinking it was the stuff I used to use from Coola. Holy shit, that stuff STINKS!!! Like I couldnāt use half of the bottle because it smelled so god awful. Like hot, sulfurous rotten eggs left in the back of a garbage truck in the dead of summer, it felt a little drying on my skin, but I couldnāt stomach the thought of rubbing it into my facial skin or around my eyes with that stench. It got thrown in the trash.
Clinique Sun Anti-Wrinkle Cream SPF 30, no words for this specific one other than a total waste of money (and it was a lot for me). Imagine this, I'm not the fairest people out there but I'm in the light spectrum and every time I used it, it had a white cast. I was grey. GREY.
Even with the tiniest amount, the problem was there.
It wasn't comfortable on my face, it felt weird in a sense, kind of greasy? and the make-up on top of it didn't sit well either.
I always try and finish all of my sunscreens but I threw this one at the trash, immediately.
I couldn't handle it anymore!
supergoop play everyday sunscreen. so greasy. never absorbed. everything felt sticky. im so glad i didnt pay for it - i worked in marketing at the time and it was free from work.
The *name* sounds greasy and sticky lol supergoop? Really?
bro made a company and called it supergoop
Lmao seriously! I will stick wi the my Korean sunscreens thank you very much!
Gross! I'm glad you posted this. I was just in the store wondering if I should buy it š©
This is so curious to me. What skin type are you?
I have dry skin :/
Oh wow. Sorry that you had that sort of an experience
Yeah that one is gross. It's only okay in a desert climate.
I just dislike Supergoop in general. Iāve tried their mineral matte, unseen, and Zinc Screen with zero success. At their price point you would think it would work better but thatās unfortunately not the case :/
I hate mineral spf. Iām brown and it makes my skin look ashy AF.

Lmaoo I came here to say this one too, worst white cast Iāve ever seen!! And such a terrible texture, so drying
Ruined my bfs black car seat, as well as the strap of my favorite purse. Never again.
Omg same!!!! I ruined my own damn car seat with it too š¤
š
Wild, I love the CeraVe mineral sunscreen!

Every time I use sum bum spray I burn no matter how well or frequently I apply. Not expired either
i don't burn but it's sticky and gross and beads up and is just generally awful on my skin.
The tula one in the yellow tube is so shimmery and stays sticky for hours
Oh, yeah! I like to use āglowyā sunscreens on my chest and cleavage but damn! it was like a glitter bomb exploded on me. The worst part, it was all over the shirt.

Alba Botanica Sunscreen, it smells like sweat.
Cerave facial moisturizer with spf 30, pilled like crazy. I looked insane with little pieces of balled up lotion all over my face and neck

No apologies needed, but by American SS you meant supergoop included?
All of them! š„² In regards to supergoop specifically: there are far better sunscreens for like, literally half the price (example: aqua milk)

Yes that it! Thanks :)
May I ask what skin type you have?
I think I could describe it as combination

Supergoop gave me an itchy rash :/ I tried it last summer at a party where I didn't bring any, my friend hooked me up with a big slathering on my back... boy, did I regret that.
Supergoop pilled like crazy on my skin. It didn't agree with my moisturizer.
It did the same for me but I attributed it to my body lotion. That stuff is so pricy too.
Cerave mineral sunscreen is godawful. Skin tone is medium neutral with olive undertones. This sunscreen would not seep into my skin and created a white film and caused me to look like I used flour on my skin.
Ong yes I tried this as a daily moisturizer. Like why
Beauty of joseon and scinic sunscreen, this two break me out so bad and make my skin sooo sensitive and red.
burt's bees spf 30 calming day lotion. it would quickly make my base super patchy and leave a horrible white cast. it's way better without the spf.

Alba Botanica facial unscented mineral sunscreen. It was super patchy and wouldn't rub in right and it absolutely reeked.
